Not Enough Memory - Can't decimate anything

I get this error message with any tool I try to preprocess with Decimation Master. Doesn’t matter if it’s 3,000 or 5 million polys so I figure it’s an error instead of an actual issue of memory. Can anyone shed some light on this?

No one else has had this problem? It won’t let me decimate anything.

Try restarting your PC killah. That might correct it?

Still nothing. Thanks for the trying though. :frowning:

Try pre processing one of zbrush’s included tools( i.e the soldier ), if you still get the message the only thing I could think of is that maybe the plug in got corrupt when you installed it? You could try uninstalling the plug in and reinstalling it?

Does the same with the default Ztools. Tried deleting and reinstalling the plugin but it doesn’t change the outcome.

I can use decimation master in Zbrush 3.5 just fine, but I can’t open Zbrush 4 tools in it.

To sumarize, you have been able to decimate without any troubles your Tools in ZBrush 3.5 R3, you switch to ZBrush 4, installed Decimation Master for ZBrush 4 and each time you preprocess, you have this error, right?

Then, some questions

 • Does it happen just after clicking on the preprocess button or at a specific stage of the processing?
 • Are you running a 64 bits OS?
 • if yes, how much Gb of RAM do you have?
 • if no, same questions
 • How many polygons have your model to preprocess?

It randomly started working for a day, but now I’m getting the error again.

 • It happens after I click preprocess. It says computing then the error occurs.
 • I’m running 64bit.
 • 6gb RAM
 • It happens on every model, even the default head bust tool.

I’m getting the same problem and I think I know what’s causing it. At the end of the not enough memory error, it says it is trying to install a .GoZ file in the decimationmaster data folder. This folder lives inside the ZBrush file structure which lives in Program Files. Windows usually will not allow programs to write or create files in this folder.

I think it’s strange that it would want to create a GoZ file, or that it would want to save it there instead of in a more appropriate place, but I’m 95% sure that’s what’s causing it… Only problem is I don’t know how to stop it.

Damm!!! i get this same problem!!! with 3,5 i had no problem decimating meshes i agree with you it’s must be messing the goZ with decimation. Does anybody has a solution for this?

What happens if you go in Decimation master Preferences and clearing the temporary files?
Also, check the permissions of this DecimationMasterData folder (if you can read/write in it).

What looks strange is that one day you can decimate and the day after you can’t anymore. Did you install some cleaning/restore/optimize hard drive softwares or similar?

also, noticing that you have a GoZ file your trying to decimate. have you tried to close out the other program you have your model from? it might help to lose the memory sucking programs you have running in the back ground. Winamp Maya and Photoshop even Firefox if you have videos or music running suck enough memory and CPU to throw errors in Zbrush. try closing out some stuff and give it another go.

if your working on a PC with less than 2 cores memory and CPU errors typically go hand in hand. Multi-tasking between applications becomes difficult because you don’t have enough resources to run them both at the same time or while one is processing a high volume of information. You can set the affinity of your processor but its a little harder to dedicate/map memory to a specific program that another program won’t try to butt into when resources get critically low.

In my case it’s weird cause all the programs you suggest were shout. One thing i’ve noticed is that recently i wanted to decimate a geometry, first press the pre-proces current button and the calculations were done ok (without the error), then decimated, fo far so good. I wanted to keep decimating to reduce it even more ,so when i hit pre-process current this time the error occurs.
I tried deleting the cache file from decimation Master panel menu and from the goZ menu as well… again nothing. The last thing i tried was to delete the DECIMATOR.ZPR file from the Zstarup/ZPlugg/DecimationMaster/decimator.zpr and again of course…nothing, so no more ideas to solve it.
Using a 64 bit OS 8 Gb Ram and a core 2 duo and the poly count to decimate was + - 8 million polis.

Thank in advance any suggestion

I too am getting the exact same error message. I’m running ZBrush under Windows Vista with 6Gb of RAM.
Anybody have any new suggestions?

Rodrigo: you don’t have to click again on pre process if you want to update your decimation with a new optimization setting.
The pre process is creating a cache with your decimation from 100% to 0%. Clicking on the Decimate button means reading the cache file at the % you are looking for. Then you can change the % value and click on decimate again to have the new one, without the need to click on the pre process button.

I get the error on the first press of the ‘pre-process current’ or the ‘pre-process all’ buttons. This happens first time, every time, regardless of how few polygons the mesh to be decimated consists of.

Any ideas?

Does it happen on all your models?
What you can try:

 • delete Decimation master datafodler and zsc file in the ZStartup/ZPlugs folder
 • redownload it from our Download Center from Pixologic.com and reinstall it
 • Check that your Decimation Master Data folder have the full privileges (read/write/execute for everyone)
 • Then test on ZBrush provided ZTools (like the demohead) and see if it works or not.

I’m encountering similar issues with Zbrush 4 just freezing and crashing after clicking pre-process.

-Deleted, re-downloaded/ re-installed plugin files, still exact same problem.
-Made decimation master and all of zbrush folders have full priveleges, still same problem.
-Tested on simple sphere (only ~8k polys!), same problem.
-Mem settings on default

*I got 8 Gig Ram, 64-bit, Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.4Ghz
*Zbrush 3.5 decimated fine but not 4

I’ve got the same problem with zbrush4, I cannot decimate anything now, has anybody found a solution?

Is ZBrush running as an administrator on Windows? (in ZBrush application property window). If yes, it shouldn’t, then try again.
