Not Enough Memory - Can't decimate anything

If you still have the issue, please, do the following test:

  • Check in Decimation Master preference that the option “Delete caches at startup” is enable. If not, enable it and do a store config.
  • Quit ZBrush and restart it.
  • while ZBrush is running, check the content of the ZStartup/ZPlugs/DecimationMaster/DeciamtionMasterData (or similar). It should be empty. If not, then tell me, the issue may come from here. If yes, let’s go to the next step
  • open a file which make Decimation Master crashing, if possible, a simple one with few polygons.
  • start your preprocess. When the error dialog box appears, don’t close it/validate it, leave it open!
  • then go back to your DecimationMasterData folder, which should have temporary files in it. zip this folder and send it to me (please, send links by private message or if you need an FTP access, i’ll provide it to you).

We can’t reproduce this issue, then we need to have the temporary files to try finding where the issue may comes from.

I had this exact same problem, and just running ZBrush as administrator solved it. Hope it helps!

I have had issues getting a lot of stuff to work in zbrush lately i find that even if you are opening a default ztool or one you already have saved after dragging it out enter draw mode and then save it or resave it and decimation master should work. Its not a technical fix but it does allow it to work.

Hi there, looks like this post is 9 years old, but this happened to me some time on every version on Zbrush. Every time i discovered the problem whas the name of the subtool…
YES! If the ST had an space, or a symbol… lets say Ñ, * or even _ or the name whas long (Reallt long)
This same error poped up. Changed the ST name and worked fine, every time this happened!

I recently encountered the same issue, so I found this post. And now I have finally found the problem. The security system of Windows has blocked it. To solve this problem, you just need to go to Windows Security > Protection history > Protected folder access blocked > allow it.

I hope this can help you solve the problem.

I encountered this too.And I sovled it by changing subtool’s name.
When named as “1515-5”,the subtool can’t be decimated. The “*” and the “-” might be guilty to this issue.
