New Works

JAN. 08, 2012

Hey David…Yep, I remember Block Head from Boston,…I think he won the golden gloves somewhere back in the 60’s…I guess that he never heard that slogan…Just Say NO,…and deffenitly suffered the repercussions because of it…:laughing:small_orange_diamond:D
I think I will eventually do a nice moody type of piece of the boxer getting his hands taped before the fight…would make a strong image if done correctly…Thanks for the suggestion David…Much appreciated…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)
Glenn

Started to block in the boxer skipping rope, using the Block Head model above as refference…:D…Actually, just sculping right on him.

hi glenn, your collar bones are protruding a bit much on that jump roper no? also theres a ribbing in the pectorals that isn’t happening, they branch from the arm pit, hence the hang, you have your flush with the shoulder. I think those two items when brought to final, will make that figure feel a bit more real.

Thanks FramedWorld…Yep there is tons of stuff to correct and fine tune on all of those muscles and bone protrusions yet…Mostly i’m concerned with trying to get the action in place correctly first, so I can then make the muscles work and funtion accordingly and correctly to the action taking place…Thanks for pointing those errors out though///:+1:…much appreciated, and as I go along with this figure, if you see anything else wrong, don’t hesitate to point it out…Contructive judgement calls relating to bone, muscle structure and function like the ones you just posted above are always useful and will always be welcomed.:+1:small_orange_diamond:)
Thanks Again FramedWorld :+1:

Did some fine tuning of the chest area, shoulders, collar bones, neck, upper arms ect. this morning…Still …Lots more to refine yet…

Above is a good link with videos that i’m useing as reference for the action/gesture…The 23 skipping rope exercises one is great
I will eventually try my hand at the Criss Cross technique/exercise,once I get a better feel for these actions. Think I better start out with a more simple one like the one i’m working on now to begin with though…LOL

Hi Glenn,

Looking good, however … I would lose that chair, It looks like it came from some Park Avenue apartment.

all the best, David

Hey David…Park avenue…LOL…:DNope, those will be a nice pair of boxing gloves sitting on an old crusty wooden chair, with a sweaty towel hanging over the back of it when I get around to doing them in ZBRUSH as a 3D tool :D…It’s just a thought capture doodle at the moment,… but I can see where it might come across as a velvet upholstered uptown park avenue chair…but it’s not, I swear it… …Also that doodle in the back will be a mother bringing in her two kids to see the gym and their father at work working out…I think the doorway with a group composition in it and the space behind it will add an extra dimention and point of interest to the piece and the composition…Kind of like what Diego Valazques did in his Maids of Honer painting…link to his painting below.

Anyway David…Thanks for the visit and thoughts…Always welcomed and appreciated, and very useful, …Funny how the mind works to imagine what it wants to see when viewing images…Park Avenue chair…Now you’ve got me seeing it that way…LOL :D…
Glenn

You did a great job fixing the perspective on the last couple of pieces and the lighting shows off your figure work,
and I guess we won’t need to talk about the chair, hehe. You could use maybe a stool or some wall hooks if chairs are to effete…
…Looks great,…escape the box : Deke

Hey…Thank You Deke :)…I really like the idea of the gloves hanging on the wall…good one.:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Just having some fun with dynamesh…insert cube…insert sphere…and sphere curve brushes, while getting the gesture in place for a boxer character that’s getting his hand taped…The guy doing the tapeing will be next…

Just having some more fun this morning with this Dynamesh Gesture Study of a boxer getting his hands taped that I started yesterday…added some insert sphere’s here and there,…dynameshed it, and then started pushing and pulling things around with the Move Topological brush to get the curves and flow of the muscle groups happening before I start to sculpt on it.

Hi Glenn,

Looking very good so far. Just a thought, In a gym a boxer more likely than not might be wrapping his own hands. This would not only give you more space but the act of a fighter concentrating on the “ritual” of doing this wrapping might be more interesting. IMHO

Cheers, David

JAN. 15, 2012

Hey David…Nice thought man…:+1:…I totally agree with it, and the reasoning behind it…:)…Hey, …Why didn’t I think of that…:D…Thanks again for the extra eyes and thoughts David…Very much appreciated and welcomed my friend…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Boxer taping own hand…very much in the rough yet, but the thought is now captured anyway…
