New Works

Years ago there was a thread to have everyone post a photo of themselves and it was kind of cool to match a face with a handle!

Are you still here S*** For Brains?

Anyhow I started a thread in a more appropriate section of ZBrushCentral and not one person responded!

Cheers, David

Not meant in a bad way … i just don’t think along lines of gender when looking at someones work and when I remarked to Glenn that I was concerned about Mealea as you had not posted for sometime, he remarked … i’m sure she’s ok!

Cheers, David

This reminds me of something someone asked me once; “Are you from hell? Nothing from anywhere else could possibly sing so badly and yet still cause pain miles away quite like you”.
I know I sing badly, the only thing to do is to do it as loud as possible.
Gender however was never mentioned till now, perhaps I should get a megaphone…

GRIN!!!

Hey Mealea…Welcome back my friend.:+1:small_orange_diamond:)…Great to know you are well, and still STRONG IN SPIRIT:):+1:

I found this link above, and put it here in my thread…Just for You, and anyone else who has a good heart and strong Spirit to go with it,…no matter the gender…For myself,…I feel that what he says in his song, says what you mean in this forum for myself anyway, and i’m sure for many many others as well, and to hell with anyone who doesn’t feel this way…Just remember that you have me on your side in this forum, and i’m sure that David feels the same way in regards to you also, along with many many others in this forum.
Anyway,…enjoy the song, and sing it loud and clear on that megaphone that you mentioned above…:):+1:
Keep on Truckin Mealea…Can’t wait to see what you create after being back from your voyage in the Atlantic…Will be Great as Always,…i’m sure…:+1:

Hey Mealea…About your suggestion on the previous page in here about me making a piece about the Arawak people and their destruction and fate… and about me making the piece along the same lines as that Zapata piece that I did recently…Not a bad idea.:):+1:, and long overdue…

http://www.artbyglenngallegos.com/DrawingsBig/DrawingBig11.html

I did the thumbnail sketch for that very theme many years ago…The link to the thumbnail sketch is posted right above, in this post…
My Grandmother on my Fathers side was a full blooded Comanche…So this theme resonates in my blood and Spirit very strongly to say the least…and that very Spirit that they tried to make exstinct still lives strong within me,…to their dismay i’m sure, but very true none the less.

Looking wonderful! … however did you come up with that idea for the smoky looking room?

Some more fun this morning with this piece this morning.

Hey David Thanks Man  …Mrgb on…Zadd on…rgb intensity set at 14…Z intensity set at 14…Use the Drag Rectangle stroke in the stroke pallette…turn on alpha # 01 in the alpha pallette…and turn on texture #36 in the texture pallette…use whatever material you want,…I used a fire and ice one…I can’t remember who made it,…but it’s in the ZBRUSH materials library somewhere… and then set the color for whatever you want it to be,…and then just drag your smoke effect onto the canvas and leave it wherever you want it…All 2.5d, and should I think look great in some of your works, if you decide to use it …might be good for an atmospheric effect if that is what you think a piece might need…Just adjust it’s intensity for whatever density you want…it’s a fun effect to play with in any case…
The idea for the smoke filled room was your idea by the way,…and a good one at that.:D:+1:…needed some atmosphere in there.:)Thanks again David

I really like the 3rd one. The Contrast with the highlight really makes the piece read. Great work as always:)

I know it was … just yanking your chain!

Looks awesome, I never would have thought of doing it inside Zbrush, brilliant!

Cheers,
David

just an aside: there is something funny happening with the fighters on the left, I looked a few times and there appeared to be a round platform on the floor between each ones legs … It is only shadows but have a look it looks a bit strange. IMHO.

Yeah the B/W on the bottom is very nice, the smoke effect really defines the solidity of the environment…:+1:
good stuff sir Deke aka Blue

Segaholic Thanks Man

David Thanks :)…I worked on the floor shadows between the boxers legs as you mentioned above, I think that is what was distracting…was bugging me also…Thanks for pointing it out…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)…and for pulling that old rusty chain…yep ZBRUSH is also a great program for painting with. Besides the special effects, you can get some fantastic color blends and tints using that drag rectangle stroke combined with those soft edged alphas, and textures, just as you would use a large brush in a traditional manner with oils on a real canvas.

Hey There Sir Deke…:D…Thank You Man…

Thanks Again for the feedback guys…Much appreciated.:):+1:

Just doing some experimenting and exploring with light /shade / shadow and values this morning on this piece.

Wow! You’re approaching George Bellows territory - which is no small feat. Love the trainer figure holding the bag. Very inspirational - keep it up.

Hi Glenn,

Looking great … my only suggestion is that you are loosing the speed bag, I know it is difficult to get all the elements in accord, but the speed bag justifies that figure being where he is in the scene. IMHO Cheers, David

Magbhitu…Hey Thanks Man.:)…George Bellows…If I even come a little bit close to what he expressed in his paintings I will be happy.:D.Hard to portray from imagination and old memories in my case, what he was able to portray in his paintings by having experienced live and recently the events in his paintings…The emotions he felt were fresh in his mind, and showed in his paintings…I’ll just do the best I can do with what I have to work with, and like I said,…if I even come a little bit close to the emotions that he was able to capture, then i’ll be happy…

Hey David…You are right on the money again my friend… Thanks for that suggestion :+1:small_orange_diamond:)…I’ll see what I can do to bring that far corner and what’s happening there back into focus and into the light again…Kind of like doing a ballancing act on a tight rope at this point…move a little too far in one direction, and opps …you end up losing it somewhere else…
Thanks Again Guys :+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Worked a little this afternoon to bring the speed bag back into focus and the light.

Hi Glenn … that’s better! Just a hint of the bag was exactly what the doctor ordered. Cheers, David

Pardon me senor I forgot the comma Yo:)u are the Sir Iwas referring to…

When I look at your last image I get a little distracted by the tilt of the ( ring, room, environment ) its maybe just me but there is so much going on
in the image that the tilt distracts me …not a crit just an observation , I do love the golden light and the sweaty atmosphere…Deke

David…Thanks Man…Just experimenting , having some fun, and leaving the door open for whatever problems the experiments create…The fun part is trying to correct the problems created,…intentionally or otherwise…No fun in it without the challenge element…which always leaves the door open to discovery…and the possibility of the new…One just never knows what’s in the waters of the ocean, until one dives into it…only hearsay until the plunge is actually taken:D

Sir Deke Sir,:D…I know that you just left the comma out…and as David so well put it a couple of post back in here…I was …Just pulling your chain…couldn’t help myself.:D…I just thought that Sir Deke had a nice ring to it is all
I also agree with your idea that their may be too much going on with the structure of the room…I personally like the lighting styles of Rembrandt, and Caravaggio, where in most of their later works, the eviroment always takes a back seat to the human drama, and the human drama is always described with a minimal amout of information…Forces the viewer to use their own imagination to complete the forms, and thus to participate in the drama…
Anyway…Really appreciate the help and feedback guys…Always constructive and very useful…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Just having some more fun experimenting futher with light/shadow/shade/values, and using this piece to do it with.

Started a figure skipping rope for a new boxing gym scene that i’m thinking about,…will sculpt him next, using the same method that I used for the trainer…Want to use him as an experiment in motion as I did with the speed bag a couple of pages back in here…I have a feeling that this will be alot more challenging than the speed bag was…but what’s life without a good challenge every once in awhile…Anyway, it’s a start…no turning back now.

SKIPPING ROPE 5.jpg

Hey Glenn … i recognize that fighter from the Boston area, they used to call him block head! For the future you might think of a fighter having his hands wrapped by a trainer … perhaps sitting on a rubdown table like the one in my photo with the boxing glove on it. Just a thought! Cheers, David
