New Works

@blue , you… a 2012 with lot of fun then. Not roman portraiture, an older Satyr bastard is the appropriate approach. With a nice pair of hoofs.

Michalis and Deke…Not a new self portrait, but one I did about ten years ago…oil on canvas…This morning I put it into a master copy/study that I painted freehand digitally about seven yeras ago, using the oil brushes in the Corel Painter program…So here you have it guys :),…Me as a A crusty old satyr in his element…:D:D:D
Happy New Year Guys…and Keep Inspired and Inspiring…Always…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

SELF PORTRAIT 8.jpgSELF PORTRAIT 9.jpg

Hi Glenn,

I knew it … have a look at this photo from 8 years ago of myself, Bianca and my twin brother. I think we share a similar gestalt (you and me not me and my brother) he was always the handsome one!

All the best,
David

Hey David…Happy New Year Man…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)…Yep, …By the sound and looks of things,…i’d say we were both coming from the same place…Just a part of that Free Spirted Generation, where the Sum is Greater than the Individual Parts…:):+1:
In ART,…Just make clear what needs to be said, and…Spare me the Details…Or in other words,…if you can’t say what you want to say without going into every little detail, then don’t bother saying anything…Instead,…Master the Art of Less is More…and only then, say what needs to be said,… and then say what you have to say…//:smiley:
By the way,…I think that Bianca has it all over both of us when it comes to looks…

Take Care David, and stay strong in the New Year ahead Man…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

The makings of a New Self portrait…Lickety Slpit and My Self…

Lickety and Glenn 3.jpg

Hi Glenn, Thanks for the good wishes! You are totally right about blathering on and on about creating “art”. One of my favorite quotes is " Talking about art is like dancing about architecture" I don’t remember who said that.

I love the look of your Minpin! I see that you also have tattoo/tattoos I have a few and also in the Late seventies/early eighties I was co-owner of a company that designed and produced temporary tattoos for the Movie Industry, think Robert DiNero in Cape Fear + about seventy other movies and also supplied Street fairs, Carnivals and Theme Parks throughout Europe. I needed a break from commercial photography at the time.

Keep on trucking! David

Man, I remember when everyone was saying that! I guess that kinda dates all of us…

Hey Glen,

Happy New Year to you and yours! Just popping through after a long break with more somber matters, To me out of your boxing experiments I like the one with the trainer the most. It resonates more fully with me. Well done and a good side road to travel. It shows a boxer at what he does the most. I like your self portrait. I’ll be damned if your beard isnt longer than my own. The dog is cool also.

JAN. 02, 2012

Thanks David :)…I have a few homegrown handmade tattoos that are from the old gang and neighborhood that I grew up in…South Boston …which I had a friend do when I was about thirteen…Was the thing to do at that time…considered a nobody without them…in that neighborhood and at that time…mid 60’s…I finally got a professionally done one when I was about 30 when my shoulder muscle was large enough to handle what I had in mind, which was an Eastern Dragon that I got from a photo in a book on dragons…The photo is of a ceiling painting of a great looking wild eyed and spirted Dragon in a temple in Vietnam…The actual dragon in the painting is about 30 feet across…swirling in the heavens and clouds and was painted about a thousand years ago…old temple:)…Symbolizes the… Force … of Nature and Life…Thought I might as well have one good symbol decorating my body before I fade back into dust, if for nothing else than to offset the ones that I had put on when I was a young kid growing up and surviving in the hood…
Interesting to hear about your stint in making those tattoos for the movies and the other things…I can imagine that you ran into some interesting people and thoughts concerning tattoos during that chapter in your life…A long and interesting global history when it comes to tattoos and tattooing…
Keep on Trucking Yourself and stay strong in the New Year Ahead my friend…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

VoodooDad…Yep,…Eddie Kindrix of the Temptations left behind a good message in those lyrics in his song…Keep on Truckin…:+1:…and I guess those of us who still remember are getting a little long in the tooth by now, …for sure…

Hey Tartan…Thanks Man…Nice to hear from you, and I wish you and yours a Great New Year Ahead also.:+1:
I haven’t shaved since I was twenty…Wouldn’t recognize the person I am without that beard…wouldn’t be me for sure…LOL…and hey,…it used to be down to my belly button…I must be getting conservative in my later years…

Thanks Again Guys…For everything…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Working on this heavy bag with boxer and trainer scenario this morning.

HEAVYBAG WORKOUT 1.jpg

Spirit, I really like this last one. The trainer really adds a lot of life to it.

Keep truckin’ like the Doodah man!

Hi Glenn,

I have’t seen any posts by Mealea in what seems like weeks … not like him.

Cheers, David

JAN. 03, 2011

VoodooDad…Thanks Man.:)…Zippatee …Doodah… a…OK.

Hey David,…I was wondering the same thing about Mealea…Hope she didn’t get lost in some storm while out in her boat or something…That ocean can get pretty rough and can turn on a dime when it comes to it’s moods, especally this time of the year…We’ll probably hear from her soon…Hopefully…She is probably just brainstorming her next creation…Hopefully.:D:)

Played around with this gmy scene this morning…Mostly just experimenting and exploring.

BOXING GYM 1.jpg

Hi Glenn,

Now that is looking great! Two things … the guy in the heavy bag looks enormous in relationship to both the bag and the trainer and the body of the fighter on the speed bag would be a bit more erect, IMHO.

I was always in a quandary as to Mealea’s gender.

Cheers, David

Hey there I’ve noticed that too, looking at the environment the figures are in, the environment seems to be disproportionate to them. the other thing is ( sorry if I’m stepping on your toes ) the figures all seem to be floating…the lighting is your strong point,
and the subject matter is great , ( keep on TRuckinn ) Deke

JAN. 03, 2012

David and Deke…Hey Thanks for the extra eyes guys…Much appreciated…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

I was trying to punch a hole in that back wall today for about 3 hours, so I could put the ring with the boxers in another room further back in perspective using the new insert brush thing with a cube,.where you press alt and then dynamesh …to create a hole/entranceway in the back wall,…but everytime I did it, the figures melted…Anyway I got tired of trying to do the hole in the back wall thing, and settled for a couple of young maybe 7 or 8 year old kids fighting in a small kiddy ring…
Oh Well…Tomarrow is another day…To Keep on Truckin…Hopefully…
Thanks Again Guys.:+1:small_orange_diamond:)
Glenn

P.S…David, …I hope Mealea is a female…If not, i’m in trouble once more and again I guess…:D…I just assumed…But i’ve been known to be wrong on rare occasions…LOL…Come to think of it, I don’t recall ever asking

Just having some fun experimenting this evening.

BOXING GYM 10.jpg

Hey Glenn, I am loving this right now! IMHO there is more than enough going on … perhaps the addition of a simple element or two and you are home free! I don’t know, a bare bulb hanging somewhere a old window perhaps the feel of a smoky or dusty room? I think more figures will take away from the beautiful composition that is there now. Just my opinion.

Great work!

Cheers,
David

Jan. 04, 2012

Thanks David… Yep,I think you are right again my friend :+1:…I was just thinking that…Putting those kids in the ring yesterday…purely by chance, but one of those happy accidents so to speak that I will keep…and maybe refine further in another piece, is…the thought of…Hope,/ Inspiration, / reflextion back/memories…/…expressed in the different age groups that dwell in the boxing gym…I was thinking that thought when, after deciding to add a couple of kids mixing it up in a kiddy ring…Makes me think that a variety of ages in a boxing gym scene is fitting and will add to the realism of what a boxing gym is all about… Inspiration and thought for a whole new piece on what a boxing gym is really all about.:)…Just thinking out loud here again, so the thought doesn’t get lost, which tends to happen with me if I don’t write it down while it is fresh in my minds imagination…
Anyway David…Thanks Again for your help and input along the way with this boxing theme that I have gotten into, for better or worse…:D…Very Much Appreciated…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)
Glenn

GRIN!
Not to worry, I am, and I am also still alive (and kicking) I hope that clears up two things at once. Don’t send the Coast Guard, we tend to argue about their sending Cuban people back being… a despicable…
Ok I have to censor my self here…
ahem…
Needless to say we do not get along.
[Large deleted tirade]
Perhaps a series on the destruction and extinction of the Arawak people would be interesting like your Zapata series…

Anyhow, on a much nicer note all these people and dog pictures are great!
Seeing you guys with your dogs is terrific.

Cheers!
Mealea

Um…
I remember that too…
in fact i know people who still do say that…

HAY!!! Look here you!
