Went ahead and made a unified skin from the body that I made up with the Zsketch method…Apended the body to the head as a subtool. Then sculpted on the body with the new Z Brush sculpting brushs.
Lots more to do on it yet…
Crits, suggestions, opinions always welcomed…
Worked on this character some more…put a twist in the figure and the wings…adding to the flow, rhythm and movement of the figure.
I see that someone is playing the star game with my sketchbook, instead of giving me a useful crit or helpful suggestion.
I started out with 5 which i didn’t want or deserve, .but now am down to 2…give me a f…king break here …I know i’m not that bad:D
Keep playing immature games, and everyone will lose their precious little stars…just like they did over at CG TALK…It was probably the BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED ACTUALLY…They are an annoying distraction…which always end up being abused by IMMATURE IDIOTS…
CHEERS ALL…

Yeah, I get what you are saying. Now let me try and see if I have anything helpful to offer you.
Right off the bat I am going to have to play the anatomy card. I am not going to say “correct” anatomy—as it is a fictional beast—but rather: functional anatomy.
In non of those poses—save the shot from behind—can a figure out how the creature is moving itself. The seemingly nonfunctional wings; as a can’t make out how they are helping with flight—are throwing me off as well. Maybe they are not wings but something like cloth. They look almost ghostly in the way that they are moving.
I think you just need to work a bit more on the foundation of the design. I know it is still a W.I.P. so I don’t know what I can say about the feet—or lack there of. I think with more detail they could be interesting, unless you just haven’t added them yet, which is why they are not included.
For some reason when I look at it I think of “bat”. But if you look at bats they have a definite skeletal structure in their wings; that is not present in this design. This then makes me think it may be a ghost type thing.
I will say that it is coming along cool and it has definite movement. The back shot is the best as I can believe that there is something underneath the skin moving the figure—job well done there. I hope that is helpful in some way.
I like your vampires
HEY…Vancross…Thanks for taking the time to give me a good crit on specific areas that are lacking at the moment, and suggestions for improvements that will for sure be useful as I take this piece further…Really appreceated. I just wish that all of the crits of my work were as specific and nongeneralized as yours…Thanks again…
I was thinking of the wings as being partially collapsed, as when they are used to lean on and walk with…A pacular and specific trait of the vampire bat…I wanted to get the general shape and gesture in place before going into feet, and bone and muscle detail throughout the figure…It’s an illustration/painting…and not meant to be used as a game character,3dprint, or animation…An illustration/painting, as are all of my works…I’m not worried about the mesh ect…and other things that concern modelers and animators…I just want a decent 2D/2.5 D image in the end…something that can be turned into a poster and printed on a giclee canvas…which is what I have had and do have good luck selling now and over the years…
Fatimah…THANKS… Glad you like him…
Worked on this character some more…Still a long ways to go on it yet.

Crits welcomed

Hi spiritdreamer,
I’ve seen some of your sculpts in the past and it looks like you have a great imagination! I can see the progress you’re making with zbrush as your sculpts get better and better. If I might offer some advice to help you better express your imagination:
Work on lower subdivisions, detailing as much as the poly’s will allow before you subdivide again and work up to a higher detail level. Some of the shapes in your models are a bit ‘wonky’, without as much definition in form and shape as tertiary detail like the texture.
Of course it’s always possible that this is what you’re going for and I’m just assuming too much, but I just want to help if I can.
Keep Zbrushing!
Kind Regards,
Blue
Blue Thousand…THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the visit, words of encouragement, and the suggestion about the subdivision levels. I still have tons of stuff to learn about in Z Brush, so any tips on improving my work in the Z Brush program is very much welcomed and very much apreceated…especally from somone of your caliber and understanding of the Z Brush program…Your work is OUTSTANDING, and has been a huge inspiration to me as I go about learning Z Brush, and what can be achieved while using it.
Posting this one for you…I read in your sketchbook thread that you like biblical stuff and saw a couple of your biblical works in your thread.
I like that kind of stuff myself…In fact, the book THE POWER OF MYTH by JOSEPH CAMPBELL is my favorite book of all time…I’ve drawn alot of inspiration from that book over the years…
This is a piece i’m working on at the moment…It’s my take on a William Bouguereau painting based on Dante’s Inferno …Vergil is on his journy into the lower depths of Hell…I think I got that right, it’s been awhile since I read the story…but the theme has always stuck in my mind of him being led by Dante through the different levels from heaven to earth, and to the deepest depths of hell and back…Great timeless theme and story…
The first one is of course the original William Bouguereau, and the one below it is my take on his painting…Digitally painted freehand, no tracing or whatever, using the Z Brush and Corel Painter #10 programs.
It’s still WIP …Crits ect. always welcomed.
CHEERS ALL, and ENJOY THE JOURNY…

are you just taking the painting and smudging it and adding 3D stuff to it?
If you really want to become a great artist. Try recreating the painting from scratch in paint stop. THat is the way to learn and get good. Using the smudge or liquify tool just holds up your artistic growth.
Nicholas Marks…HELL NO…of course I didn’t do what you said.I wouldn’t be much of an artist if I did, and I sure as hell wouldn’t be posting something in here, if I had done it the way that you have incinuated that i’ve done it…I painted this freehand …from scrach as I have stated…The wips for it can be found in my CG TALK SKETCHBOOK… THE LINK IS RIGHT BELOW MY POST
You’ll find all the steps I went throuh on pages #9 through 12 in that sketchbook…And as far as using Paintstop…what difference does it make,… the outcome would still be the same…I like the smudge, pull and strectch brushes…It’s my style of painting, one of many that i’ve aquired and perfected over many years of practice…You should not go about tearing apart someones abilities, until you actually take a look at their entire body of works…It’s not a cool thing to do,…it only makes you look like a fool.
This particular work of mine that you just tore apart, has been on display on and in various sites all around the planet…and I never even gave the people permmision to use it, or collected roalties from it…I just figured that if they liked it that much, they could go ahead and use it, for the betterment of the arts…So much for your stupid remarks about me being a great artist…That is all relative anyway…There is ALWAYS someone better,… in the past, in the present, and in the future, …But right now, I know that alot of my works are good enough to be stolen, pirated, and used around the planet…can you say the same thing about your own works…Hell kid, if you want to know the truth,…Ive probably been selling my works for more years than you’ve been alive…I have enough money to retire, which I have done, so now I just do my art for my own pleasure, and help those who are on their way up the ladder with their art…Just check out my post to others threads over at CGTALK,THOUSANDS OF THEM,… AND MY TUTORIALS IN MY SKETCHBOOK OVER THERE, AND YOU’LL SEE WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT…I’VE HELPED OUT HUNDREDS OF ARTIST, and have helped them to become better artist…The proof is in their works and their kind words to me for helping them along the way.
That’s all I have to say to you, other than wise up, and grow up…ART is not a game to me, it’s my passion, and always has been…I’ve made my bones over the years and have proven myself, and have nothing to prove to anyone, especally someone with an attitude like yours.

Forgive me if i did not clarify. I meant you took the image and used liquify on it and did not paint the base imagery from scratch. I see you did to some painting after that.
Just saying…you can learn more by creating everything from scratch.
Just trying to give a thoughtful crit. Not wanting to give a stroke or anything.
image removed.

Nicholasmarks…What you can’t read ether.:qu: …I did create this image from scratch…It’s not meant to be an exact copy…I think that is pretty obvious. and is explained further in my sketchbook over at CG TALK where the wips and steps for it’s creation are posted at…page 9 through 12…If you take the time to see how I worked it up from scratch, then you might learn something…but then again, it seems like you think you know it all already…Don’t worry about giving me a stroke. To me , you are no more bother that a fly that is pestering me…reaching for the flyswatter, if you get my drift…
P.S. It would be much apreceated if you took your image off of my thread…It was not asked for, or required…So be cool and remove it please…THANK YOU…
i see your thread. I guess i was wrong.
You are my new Andresloy Thank you for existing.
Nicholas Marks…We all make mistakes while on the journy,… no exceptions…LIVE AND LEARN…
Going to create a Z Brush enviromment around this painting I did awhile back,… for no other reason than the pleasure that it gives me in doing so…
