I did a couple projects with that unit-shape…it really has something – somehow combining the contradictory principles of a cube and a sphere. Here is a page-link from my sub-site at Deviant:

The form is amazingly good at ‘slipping’ on the surface of itself without flying out of control when in the dot-stroke. You can therefore build huge structures with it in 2.5D that would take a million years to create in 3D.
