MOLDY: Modeling Tool , ver. 1.5 - updated one more last time

oops, sorry about the broken update, I forgot to comment a line in version 1.3. :o It’s all fixed now.

Bonecradle - I’ll see what I can do, I’m making a list.

Andre - actually, I’m left handed too and thought the < > keys were perfect!

Next ZScript I’ll try to make it easy for users to customize. (that might not be too hard.)

Tjaden: Hmm, voice recognition, let me check the manual.

Thanks again for the feedback. Sven

Hi Swen
It was just a question
Because “S” or clic right or Menu draw permit to change the size also
I will retry your new add
If the < or > change the size of brush during the drawing it will be terrific
I ask that for 2 years on the whish list
So I will go to test !

frenchy …i have been using the < and > keys non stop. it makes things so much more fluid.i’ve found especially when using the move transform, the ability to change brush size on the fly a god send! you rock sven… now if only the ALT+ < or > adjusted z depth i’d be in heaven.

Here is one more NEW update of the MOLDY Modeling Tool, probably the last until we see the what’s what with the new ZBrush release.

I added another bank of buttons for manipulating MultiMarker objects. Haven’t used MultiMarker much, personally, but I think these controls will make it simpler to assemble and edit complex objects. Any advice or feedback on the process from someone who has MultiMarker experience would be nice.

To update, just replace the previous version of MoldyTool.TXT with the one in the new .ZIP file (December 19th) and you should be good to go.

New users should unzip all files into the same directory and load it.

So, Happy Holidays everyone. Sven

hey thanks for this wonderful script.as i said, it has become a nessecity when modelling and i feel like it has sped up my workflow by about 500%. i know this looks like it might be the last update but…lol…suggestions…F,B,L,R keys for front back left and right and an adaption of the < and > keys to effect z depth. even if moldy doesn’t get another update it is still a really cool script and you rock Sven!!

Hi, great tool, it really makes modeling much easier!

With this latest version there seems to have been a little bug introduced, however. The little red dots showing which point(s) the cursor is over are always offset from the cursor. But when you click to zadd or zsub the points affected are the ones under the cursor and not those the red points are on. Which makes detailed editing a bit strange.

Anyone else get this? Or is it just me?!

Hi Swen
What do you mean by">" and “<” ?
These Type sign on the keyboard or the Arrow Key for movment
Because nothing works for me !
Maybe the french keyboard is not the same
What do think of that?
Pilou

Hi Sleeper,

Yes, you are right there is a tiny bug going on here and I think I can fix it, but I have to do some research… (the inner workings of ZBrush can be mysterious). I’ll post a notice when the corrected version of 1.4 is up.

Frenchy,
The keys being used are the unshifted versions of < and > which is the comma and period.

Actually making people press shift to use < and > kind of defeats the convenience since I picture the user having one hand on the stylus working and the other hitting the keyboard. I know there must be a simple ZScript trick to manage this, but my understanding of ZScripting is still pretty spotty. While ZSCript is very powerful… in some respects it’s almost like Alchemy to me… Right now, I am trying to figure out the parameters for the PICKER:Selected Orientation - four numbers - and I have no notion what they do. Maybe some other ZScripter will tell me - in the meantime, I’m working on it.

Let me know if that answers your question on < and > OR if it might be related to some difference between US and French keyboards.

Sven

Hi Sven
Ok for me “<” and “>” are working by ","and “;” as you said I suppose
The only default but I believe that you can’t make nothing for that  is that you must release the “left clic” for that “,” and “;” are efficient
It’s not real “real time” but it’s not so bad  Bravo !
Thx and have happy Scriptting!
Maybe a day I make something because this language seems very efficient

Hi Sleeper,

I hesitate to say everything is fixed, but I’m pretty sure the bug you mentioned is gone. There are some other things that “seemed” to be solved (after extensive testing) and I think MOLDYTOOL now works as it should.

Over the coming days I will be using it a lot to see if I can break it. If you have any more problems, let me know please? And if I find anything else, I will post another fix. (sigh.)

Otherwise, I’ll definitely leave any more ambitious updates until after the new ZBrush arrives.

Thanks again, one and all for your kind comments and feedback - I’m hoping to finish an interesting tool over the coming weeks that will deal with another aspect of ZBrush. Enough said on that until I see how it develops.

later, Sven

Thanks Svengali

I’m off to have a play. Thanks again for your hard work, it’s a great tool.

Sleeper

Just a detail in Moldy
You have forgotten to release in version “1.5” the “Credit” who stay “1.4”

Ps
Yes I am a mad tester

Frenchy,

Damn! From now on you can be my exclusive, official beta tester for any new ZScripts I do! As a thank you for letting me know I’m posting MoldyTool 1.6 which has a few more modifications that I found handy:

:large_orange_diamond: A center button which brings the model to the middle of the canvas - something Cameyo put in his new release that I found very helpful so I borrowed it!
:large_orange_diamond: Z+ and Z- buttons that move the model forward and back along Z axis in 100 unit increments (nice for moving free of the back plane).
:large_orange_diamond: A button next to “grid” for setting the color of the PolyFrame mesh (color grids are fetish of mine).
:large_orange_diamond: Oh yeah, if you set NumLock ON, the keypad can be used to rotate the model to each of the six positions (5=front,8=top,2=bottom,etc.)

Maybe a few people will still be using Moldy… I hope to update it again after the next ZBrush release.

Sven

MoldyTool.txt ver.1.6

Replace your current MoldyTool.txt with this one. All other files remain the same.

I’m still using it

Just yesterday I found the stored locations function incredibly useful.

Gotta admit though, I’d still love to see the Transform>Modifiers>XYZ constraints in. If it had these it would be the perfect tool for me for ‘fluid’ modelling. Maybe after the next version

Bonecradle,

Great!

Listen, I have to confess something: I never use the transform/modifiers/x-y-z constraints when modeling. Give me a quick explanation on how you make use of them (how they are helpful) and I’ll try to post another release just for you which includes buttons for that feature, ok?

Sven

I’ll be using moldy from now on svengali, looks extremely convienant and I’m sick of scrolling through pallettes

Hi Swen
Pilou

Wow, that would be fantastic if you could. I was just taking a look over your and Cameyo’s scripts to see if I could cobble something together but scripting is not something I have really delved into.

The constraints would rightly belong in the 4th or 5th column. I use them largely for controlling the position of the actual mesh; to help maintain a clean mesh. By using them, you can pull points in a specified direction while working on a model that is not ‘locked’ to a side, front, top etc. view.

Eyelids would be a good example. Typically I would organise the vertices in the X and Y axes and then overextend them in the Z-axis. I’d then plonk some eyeballs in, constrain movement to the Z-axis and move the points back to meet the eyeball. I find that being able to do this while not locked to a side view very handy (there’s a script on this page in which this is shown).

I also use the constraints for large-scale movements, e.g. moving a brow or corner of the mouth up without having it slide in other directions.

Bonecradle,

Ok, you sold me… gotta try that myself. I’ll try to post another update by tomorrow sometime, in this same thread.

Travart,

Cool, let me know how it goes.

Hi Frenchy!

Sven
