MOLDY: Modeling Tool , ver. 1.5 - updated one more last time

MoldyTool_1-5.zip

(Final, Final update of MoldyTool.TXT, version 1.5, Dec 21)

(Final update of MoldyTool.TXT, version 1.4, Dec 19)

  • Added MultiMarker buttons to edit MM groups and generate PolyMesh.

  • Removed Fix Rotation (now fixes rotation every time the Front Button is pressed - automatically)

  • Modified Setup Button so it creates weighted 3d sphere.

(Updated MoldyTool.TXT, version 1.3, Dec 11)

Here is a tool I’ve been working on for the last two weeks. It’s based on a similar ZScript posted a year or more ago by Cameyo for ZBrush 1.23b. I could not get his to run under 1.55b, so I started editing.

With Cameyo’s permission I’m submitting this updated version… with a few enhancements. As per his request, I’m submitting the .TXT file. (Open source forever!)

I also should thank Davey for a quick tut that he posted on using SectionBegin and SectionEnd to dynamically update the interface. Cool notions Davey.

Put all the .ZIP contents into a separate directory and load MoldyTool.TXT from there.

The whole idea here was to gather together in one interface most of the tools used in modeling and group them by catagories. Drawsize and Zdepth are limited to generally usable ranges.

Click the “What’s Moldy?” button for an introduction to the tool’s functionality.

The “Fix Rotate” button is supposed to repair the rotation buttons if/when they get confused. Answer yes to the RESET as it only removes any active stencil but leaves your current 3dmodel intact… and the rotate buttons should work correctly again.

Any feedback or bug reports will be much appreciated. I’ve only had one beta tester (me) so there might/will be some undetected problems.

Note to Demo users. I think this will work just fine for you with the exception of “save” features (of course).

Sven

Hi Swengali
Seems appettizing!
One charm in add of Zbrush is the apparent facility to script something
Have happy scripting and wait the invitable bugs
Sure I will try it
Pilou

Thanks Svengali, for your hard work on such a usefull tool! 50.

Thanks a lot Svengali! Very useful and handy
script. :+1:

thanks Svengali! i just tried it out and i really like how easy it is to view the model at different angles. great job!

artboy

Great Script, very well done. Going on my Zlauncher.

Nice one Svengali :+1: I need to check the way you update those little green lights.

Hi TV,

Thanks…

Oh, and the method of the lights is a bit obscure, Davey explains it nicely here:

Davey’s special method for ZScriptors

Sven

Very good.
I’ll replace my old ModelTool…
Thank you.

cameyo

Thanks mate, I really appreciate the script.
Will give it a try later today.

Hi Svengali thanks again is very useful¡
One question: how you work with the 1,2,3,4 and g1…g4 bottom?
Thanks
Andreseloy

Hi Svengali,
i don’t see a button named “Import OBJ”…
Can you add one ?

Thank you.

cameyo

I just posted an updated version of MOLDY [1.2] with the following added:

  • new Import .OBJ button (for Cameyo) nothing fancy, just simply calls Import for obj and dxf files.

  • new Axis button which turns on Local rotation.

  • new *2 and 1/2 buttons which physically scale the model to twice or half size.

  • each draw mode [DrawAdd, DrawSub and Move] now remembers and resumes its own settings for DrawSize and DrawDepth.

Andre — answering your question - the four buttons [1,2,3,4 and g1,g2,g3,g4] let you store four positions for your model - one use for instance: if you want to work in close, you can zoom in and press the 1 button, zoom out and press the 2 button. To work on details you would press g1 to zoom close again to recall the exact same rotation, scale and position. Then after making some changes, you might press g2 so you could jump back to see the entire model.

Jump-zoom in and out as necessary.

Note that as soon as you leave MOLDY, these postions are lost.

And thank you to everyone else for your encouraging feedback. I have a few other ideas for future ZScripts… The impending release of the new version of ZBRUSH (woohoo!) makes me a little nervous about spending much time creating new ZScripts that might be obsolete so I may hold off until we all see what’s new and what ZScripting changes are made.

If anyone actually uses MOLDY to model with, I would be interested to see what kind of models you create!

Sven

Hi Swengali
Zbrush is some fractal
Moldy is a program in the program
Have happy scripting!
Pilou
Ps All are seem work very fine!
Just a remark
Why the slider Size brush is small limited on the right?

Thanks for this script - it has certainly helped me.

Update note:
Version 1.3 adds only one thing, keyboard control for the brush size. Now you can use the ‘<’ and ‘>’ keys to change brushsizes up or down in five unit jumps - (this idea thanks to Tjaden in another thread.)

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the encouraging word. I use MOLDY all the time now for most of my modeling. Having all controls in one place makes the process much faster (the way I work anyway…!)

Hi Frenchy,

I think you’re asking why the brush size is limited to 65? The way I work, this size range gives best control, with 20 - 35 being the most useful. It’s interesting… trying to design an interface like this makes me look closely at what I do when modeling and I realized that the whole process is very personal and individual for each ZBrush user. After posting the first version, I thought about how to give more precise control when modeling. With larger dimensions of the model, the editing brushes give more control. So I added the ‘*2’ and the '1/2 buttons to physically scale the model… then I had to add the ‘axis’ key which lets you rotate your enlarged model around the place you are editing (VERY USEFUL FEATURE IN ZBRUSH!)

As I said earlier, any feedback is helpful to me to try to improve the ZScript. I anticipate that a new version of MOLDY will be necessary after the new ZBrush update… a modeling tool might be even MORE helpful then.

Sven

Hi Svengali

A great script and nicely organised for modelling. It seems to be very accessible. Many thanks :+1:

One thing I would like to see on it if there were room are the Transform>Modifiers>XYZ constraints. I use these a fair bit when I need more control.

You’re right about the next version though - you’ll have to try and squeeze in a smooth brush somewhere.

Hi Svengaly thanks again, it work very nice¡
You have added the < > to change the brushsize, it is for righ handed? could i change or you could make this modification to left handed like me? let say using “n” “m”?
Thanks and excuse me for take your time
Andreseloy

Hey this is a great tool Svengali…me likes it alot. nice to see the < > feature added. this is as close as i can imagine to what i was on about. could i suggest maybe ALT+< or > to adjust the brush depth? or something like that. oh and voice recognition so i can describe the model i want to make and it will follow my commands as i speak  lol just kidding
