This is amazing! Very nice work!

I love the greyscale model… Superb shape, and lightening…
Could you show the base model you put in zb?

Monstermaker,
This is beautiful work. It’s very expressive.
In my opinion it’s done, love the black and white.
I think you should do a series of b/w Hollywood stars.
Thx for your inspiration.
HanKO.

Simply outstanding work.

Greg Punchatz

It is very wonderful!

That’s the best head-shot render I’ve seen in a long time…:+1:

That’s just fantastic Monstermaker.
Any chance of revealing who you are?
Your sculpture shows a real love for that creature. There’s alot of life in that thing.

Why do I get the feeling you are one of those guys that got me into this stuff so long ago? Seeing work like this was one of the things that made me want to be a monster maker too.

hi

Ryankinglein posted a small pdf on what he as learned about materials so far. It touches a bit on what they are capable of. Also download the 1.55b manual unless that is what you are using then you already have it. It includes a section on materials. Granted any info so far on materials is kind of lacking but following Jantim’s experiments will also lead to new insights as he shares what he learns as well.

That should get ya started!! Love that black and white version.

Oh yeah…a note…i find it much better to add pores and skin detail via Projection master and alphas…in this way you have more precise control over placement and types of skin details depending on characters…eg size and placement of pores etc.

Very nice modeling, your skills with sculpting are very evident in these images. Hell if your picking up modeling with Z2 this good in such a short time, I guess you needn’t worry about the materials thing, you’lll soon have that under your belt I am sure.

The likeness to Karlof is just awesome and they are very expressive especially if you have watched Karlof you need no introduction to these images, you just know who they are straight away.

Well Done and welcome to ZBC you certainly made a big splash with these posts

That is so true. Even with MonsterMaker’s obvious sculpting skills it would take a minimum of six months to a year to achieve something even close to this in a traditional modeling application–and that with a lot of dedication.

Great work!

Wow, thanks everyone for the nice complements. I’m flattered by the response.
Bas, thanks for the skinshader I’ll try it.
Sebcesoir, the model was made in ZBrush using Zspheres.
Worked for a while more on Karloff. Here is the latest.
I’m not totally happy with it but I think I will move on.
Something that is not a likeness. They are hard! Oh ya, one quick question I blocked out a quick hand and I can’t seem to flop it help

hahaha i have to ask now…cuz that hair is just awesome.

did you tweak it some in PS or all zb. I think I see some hints of filter brush work in zb there but can’t be sure…I am quite awed by it tho.

Can’t wait to see your next project. Am sure it will be as inspiring as these have been.

I am both stunded and disapointed in my own work at the same time, as iv been on ZB for a good month or 2 maybe longer and have not even come close to this quality.

I thank you for the inspiration to improve on my ZB skills. I guess theres just some things that cant be learnt and thats raw tallent and thats what you have.
Keep the pics coming. :+1:

Nice hair job! Is it modelled and painted , or purely painted ? Seriously …
where would we be able to see some of your clay work . I t would be great to see how your sculpting skills have translated to zbrush.
Great work!

Both Monster and Karloff models…excellent considering your limited time with the programme! Maybe the eyes on Karloff need tweaking, but the likeness is so obvious.Loving it!
Your obvious natural skills/talent with true sculpting -I bet your work is something special if this is early z-brushing!, and (did I upset anyone saying that? feeeel the clay!) made the transition extremely smooth. Please let us see any further Universal monsters you may care to do!
Are you a Uni fan yourself or did you just find the subject intriguing enought o tackle? I sense in your work that you have a soft spot for the classics. I was ‘monsterstruck’ as a child and my love for the classics won’t fade…
Now a Chaney wolfman would be nice…all that Yak hair!
I wonder what Jack Pierce would have thought of Z-Brush? Being the stubborn make-up artist he was (brilliant but a flawed personality he would probably have shunned it.)

Apologies if your not a big a fan of the old monsters as me and I’ve sent you to sleep!
Oh yeah…z-brush…
I have used 3ds Max and Maya and z-brush definately comes out on top for me.

Well done monstermaker. :+1:
