I’ve seen thousands of videos like this, but this is truly incredible, just awesome. The choice of music was brilliant too, Wow!

Hi… I’ve been trying to achieve that curly effect on the mesh that’s used in this video a lot (where he pulls out a part and rotates it at the same time), but can’t seem to find the right brush/setting. In video it looks like a nudge brush, but there had to be some custom settings as my results are not too similar to that.

Does anybody know how that was done? Thanks

@raayaar, are you referring to his pulling out the tendrils or how he does the “swirly” bits in the wings? If it’s the latter, I’d like to know as well. It’s a common enough effect in 2D with Illustrator but I cannot figure out how to do it in ZBrush without distorting polygons all to uselessness.

Pulling out the tendrils are easy enough (just in case this was the question) I’ve found that (and please correct me if I’m wrong here) once in Dynamesh, clicking the Divide button a few times will allow one to pull out a snaking tendril (Snakehook + Lazybrush) that is relatively clean. Control/Command dragging over the canvas smooths, patches holes and resets the mesh back to its pre-subdivided state. No stretched polys…all seems nice and tidy.

In order to achieve the curly effect:

Select any Dynamesh spehere
Open the Picker palette, by default Cont Z is activate
Simply select: Once Z

That’s all there is to it:)

Thank you!

my mouth was open for 70% of that video.

@Support, am I correct in assuming that it is a technique and not a built-in function? I’ve managed to get curls but they aren’t as precise nor as regular as Pixolator’s. It is more of a Pull, remesh, pull, remesh etc.

What Support missed there is Pixolators use of the “Nudge” brush, so:

  • Select any Dynamesh sphere.
  • Select NUDGE brush.
  • Open the Picker palette.
  • Select: “Once Z” (by default “Cont Z” is active).

From there you use nudge, hit Add, use nudge again and hit add, and so on till you have the shape you want.
That sort of all there is to it, that and being in very precise control of your cursor…

Cool, thanks! I knew it was nudge brush, just didn’t know about “once Z” option. Thanks again, everyone

Hi,

I’ve been watching this video about 10 times now, I’m very impressed and speachless. It all seems so easy to do but I know it’s just an illusion, there is probably years of experience behind those strokes and ZBrush knowhow.

Thanks, great work,
Felix

About a third through the video the user cuts of the legs and attaches them to the head, all whilst in dynamesh.

I have gone through frame by frame but haven’t worked out how this was done.
I can even recognise the icon of the tool he / she seemed to be using, is this a beta tool that hasn’t been released in R2 yet?

Any Ideas??

Its the SliceCurve brush

The music, colors & style of the model, the words “clay with me…” - you guys are the most romantic group of people I’ve ever seen on CGI world

all you can see in this video can be done with your zb4 r2 …

After playing a while with all the new tools in Zb4 r2 that I can´t decide what I love the most. Dynamesh was the most expected by me but the curve stroke , the wax modifier or the bpr filters are awesome!!!

Another thing im using all the time is claypolish… It´s perfect for hard surface but it has so many different uses. I just love it. Features like claypolish werent in anybody´s wishlist just because nobody had imagined something like this …but now people wont be able to live without it. jeje.

I don´t think anybody will be dissapointed by this release and i can´t imagine what zb5 will bring but I m praying they will improve the rigging system and let us paint the weights using masks… this is my old personal dream.

GRIN!!!
So I see reading back a bit!
Sorry Support!

Is there a trial version of Zbrush 4R2 available?

I’ve never used ZBrush and recently was introduced to digital sculpting by playing around with Sculptris.
It’s so much fun, but somethings I try and create take a long time and it looks like it would be more efficient in Zbrush being able to merge separate shapes together. I’m a little intimidated by the learning curve though, I’m wondering if the new Dynamic mesh will be easy to pick up after becoming familiar with the Sculptris tool set. Does the Trial version of V4 have dyanmic mesh?

Yes, at the Pixologic website. Go to the top of the page and click on the word Forum then scroll down to the www links and Pixologic.com is the first link in the stack. On the Pixologic site click on the menu item Products and towards the bottom of the list is ZBrush Trial.

Matt,

The trial version is ZBrush 4. This doesn’t include Dynamesh. I don’t know what the plans are for a trial version of 4R2, if any.

HTH,
