Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

I agree. My only point, which never flies, is that there are some traditional artists who can’t wait to apply this amazing software to their illustrational workflow cough me cough. I honestly would’ve bought a PC had I known that I would’ve eventually gone 3d for art. OS doesn’t matter much to me, apps do. Now, I’m limited (not for too long hopefully) because, as a traditional artist, I was guided to Mac by everyone and their brother. I’m sure there are other illustrators in my boat…or maybe i’m the only idiot who sees this as the perfect tool for illustration…

And, as you know, I think your monsters are nikcuf< awesome. Keep up the good work, but the industry you work in isn’t the fine art industry. The ones that will die hungry are the ones that aren’t hungry enough for success within their own industry…

As a fellow airbrusher, that’s why I’ve always wanted a damn cintiq for a point and spray kind of feel. I like the looseness of not touching the surface, but have to combine the two no matter what. More important to me than the tactile feel, the pressure sensitivity is a must in many circumstances.

Thanks for the tip James, I’ll give it a try.

Relax, friend. No need to get hot under the collar. Everybody’s entitled to their opinion (and we’re all in a holding pattern with nothing new to say until next week). No need to feel put upon or singled out. The other poster prefers traditional art and sculpture. He feels it’s under-represented in the galleries, and of course he’s right. Monsters are most of what’s getting shown here. That’s okay, so long as it’s skillfully done. Many of the monsters I’ve seen showed great imagination. Some are as boring as… as… well, as boring as what I’d have done  But using ZBrush to produce more-classical art would be nice too, and a refreshing change of pace. I enjoy variety. So long as what someone does shows an artist’s eye, I’ll appreciate it. But be honest. You’ll be making monsters because you want to. And if you also get paid to, then so much the better, right?

I am not sure which gallery you guys are looking at but I sure would love to see those “monsters”. Stop hating on artists, windows users, and anyone who succeeds, you’ll feel better.

why you gotta hate on hate?

Haven’t you heard the saying? “Don’t hate the hater, hate the hate.”

lol

there’s a great saying in broken engrish:
What you mean ‘what you mean’?!?

he he! all smiles today! and relaxed.

I get to kill windows and then respawn it (wipe it clean then reinstall)!

the mother of all hydras.

Kosher, those are great examples of ZBrush incorporated into fine art. SOME of that’s what I’m after, but more edgy. I think ZBrush can help me push those limits for sure.

I love how this software can be used across so many industries. Video games, movies, anatomy study, toy and jewelry development, holographic rabbit holes, illustration and fine art, and of course, doilies.

ZDoilies, coming to an old lady’s coffee table near you! Soon to spread across retirement homes and sewing circles like wildfire!

It might aleveite some of the stress to the joints. Also, as 3dj pointed out, hold the pen very lightly even when you do draw on the tablet.

Doctor Webhead is in the house. Nutrition, and exercise can also play a part in easing arthritis pain. Get proper rest. Take regular breaks, and do light hand stretching exercises. Don’t eat too much red meat. Also, take vitamin C, B Complex, fish oil, and MSM, which are all found at health food stores. It may take a short while of taking these supplements before you notice a difference, but they should help. (Don’t overdose on the supplements, though.)

ZDoilies Rule!!

zback from the dead. windows revisited. yah hoo finally up and running. Repaired. :+1: :+1:

I don’t know why a professed yearning on the part of some of us for more variety in gallery subject matter always seems to descend into an argument over “fine art” vs. whatever; but valid points are made on both sides, even if I don’t understand what all the fuss is about, not being a pro myself. I just wanted to say that I’d like to see the occasional man, woman, child, dog, cat, bunny rabbit, etc.

Anyway, on the theory that there’s a place for everything, did anyone see that new commercial for United Airlines during NBC’s Olympics coverage last night? I could be wrong, but it looks like maybe Meats Meier did it. Very much like the “monster” stuff we see showcased by him. It’s high-def, colorful, and razor sharp. We see an island of sorts made entirely out of super high poly, glittering, jewel encrusted tenticles. It’s animated, everything moves and reflects light. A reptile skinned octopus-thingy breathes menacingly, a fish repeatedly has strange things coming out of its mouth and going back in again. Finally, the shadow of an airliner passes over the island, all of this to the strains of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

I’ts absolutely dazzling, and my initial reaction of “what the h**l?” was replaced by “holy cow, that’s incredible! I want to see it again!” I’m on record as not being an aficionado of the bizarre, but I will admit that the monsters do get my attention. As I said before, I’m blown away by the technical aspect of those creations, and the visual impact. Just goes to show that there really is a place for everything, and everybody, in the visual arts.

…Even people who want to make doilies.

While we’re waiting around here for some official news that makes sense, let’s all just have fun and respect one anothers’ opinions.

Yeah actually I saw it and that’s the first thin that popped into my head as well. Of course anymore whenever I see a commercial or anything else in the media like that the first thing I do is start scrutinizing it and trying to figure out what was made and how it was made. I cant watch movies anymore cause i tend to spend all the time analyzing the movie and never actually watching it.

It can been seen here http://www.youtube.com/uniteditstimetofly
and here tells you who made it http://ir.united.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=83680&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1185479&highlight=

Those doilies are awesome!

The United Airlines ad looks really cool. Not sure if I would say it’s Meats though. Although has anyone seen the Levi’s stuff he did? Also has anyone checked out the Rabbitholes site for the stuff he’s showing at Siggraph? I’d love to get something printed like this!

The UA ad was created by that crazy wonderful Capetown crew of animators called The Black Heart Gang. Check out the Tale of How.

It’s been a while since I viewed the RabbitHoles.com website, and man they’ve got way more work done. They used to only have a few samples. I don’t know if it’s the same now, but at first, it was taking them a month or more per each original print. The first print costs you $5000, and $2000 for each duplication! I wonder if in the future I’ll have one of these printers in the studio, printing holograms at the touch of a button for cheap, right next to a 3d printer for sculptures and small models…right next to a beer keg that never goes empty, it just keeps brewing…which would be next to the time machine and the floating skateboard, of course…

(what’s the topic of this thread again…)
