Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

skullbeast I have same system here and encounter the same exact problem when trying to launch the program, seems they have yet to get a working version for us to beta test :frowning:

I’m having crash-upon-startup on an 8 core mac pro with 8 gigs of ram.

Seems no amount of horsepower is gonna start this puppy

Oops, first post delay.

A new beta was just released. Should work now. Unfortunately, no PPC support currently.

he, he, figures huh! :td:

Mac pro… 2.66… 9 gig ram  10.5.4

Yep, they updated the original link. It is working, and I have to say, they have some really nice ideas in there! Taking some getting used to, but being an X ZB user, it too took time.

ya! it works! pretty cool app $120.00 thats cheap. ā€¦ā€œremember the dodoā€

Doesn’t sound very promising at all. Shocking really.

Given that most around here, believed that ZBrush for the Mac was in the advanced stages of beta testing. It beggars belief that at this stage. Even something as fundamental as system requirements would still be so uncertain.

So my recommendation is to wait and see. Why buy that new computer now when you can hold onto the money and earn interest from it?

Ouch!

Not really… Zbrush is highly specialized software that uses its own proprietary renderer. Optimization is always the last stage in software development so until they are done adding features or recoding them to cocoa they can really only guess at system specs. Something they don’t want to do since they could end up promissing PPC support when in the end it is not a viable platform to work on.

Siggraph 2010?

So soon???

nevermind…

My Pet Theory is that a clue to the release of the Mac version (Intel only of course) is somehow tied to the print date of this book, which has been on backorder for about 2 years now. The publish date has been moved again, this time to November. Plus there’s a new author. I guess the original author bailed.

It first was called Unleashing Zbrush by Mathew Yetter, now it’s called Zbrush 3 Demystified by Kelly L Murdock.

:o

I can’t say one way or the other whether that book will eventually be tied to a release date, but as an FYI, I believe Matthew Yetter is the person we know as aurick. So, I don’t know if it’s correct to say that he ā€œbailedā€

Yeah this book needs to come out! I’ve been waiting for a long time now.
Once Zbrush 3.1 comes out for MAC. Me and my 30 man team will be making tools for the zbrush mac side and giving them away for free.

Yes, Matthew Yetter is indeed Aurick -

On the Amazon UK site he is still listed as a co-author of the book. I will probably purchase this book also when the mac version is finally released.

Doesn’t sound like it’s in an advanced beta stage then. Let alone ready for an announced release, any time soon. Which is what we keep being told. Here’s an excerpt from an e-mail from support I received back in June:

It should be ready quite soon. I suggest you keep an eye on our website, as it will certainly be announced as soon as we have a concrete release date

I think it is surprising, that after over a year in development. Users can’t be given any indication of what to expect. Not to mention how incredibly disappointing it is, to read such persistent patronising and taciturn correspondence from Pixologic.

Might I ask. Just how much do you know about the architecture and programming details of ZBrush? Just how authoritative can we take your statements regarding this, to be?

Sounds good. I’m eager to see what your team comes up with.
I wonder how big a team Pixo has working on the Mac version right now…

Special tools only for mac? For Free too? It would be fantastic… a sort of moral revenge.
