Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

Time, is really difficult to define now… I think maybe I’m wrong, but I change the way I’m living… now 1 month is not 1 month, 1 month looks like 2.5 month … and now I’m older than before, less creative, but still I’m waiting (no so much) , but with my new calendar (that I named the Zcalendar) I don’t need to worry anymore… make like me *2.5 and its ok , next year (think 2 more years or a bit more, and you will feel relax…

Believe in me, the Zcalendar !

It gets even more confusing when you read the System Requirements on the website at:

http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/system/

Under 3.1 it states requires an Intel processor

and 2 it tells you Macintosh users can run 3.1 via PC virtualization and recommends a Power PC or an Intel Mac.

Do the Virtualization packages run on a Power PC.

Most of the major studios are on Unix or Linux…

XSI is on Linux…

You’re right, I should have said “not available for OSX” instead of “Windows only”

Well they can’t hide forever, or can they? If we don’t know something in the coming weeks @ Siggragh, then we’ll know we have been hosed. And by know something, I mean, we better know how the damn thing performs on our own machines, whether it’s a beta or final release. No more promises, can’t trust you Pix. I bet they are just hoping that MB stays on windows. Maybe they already know that it will, so they really have no fears. But if it is made available, I would think Pix would be in line for losing a lot of money, and if there is an alternative, I imagine the thought of people filing a class action suite to get their money back could become a reality too, why let a company keep your money when you could slide it over to another for the goods now, should they release a MB for Mac.

According to the forum on the 3DCoat site, a Beta Mac version of this application is currently being worked on with a public release due very soon. I don’t know too much about this apllication but judging from the comments throughout the forum and on other sites, it’s definately one to watch and try.

Got my name down for a copy ‘soon as’

And a Screen Shot posted today on the forum. I like the way he is giving details of the progress.

How odd. Aurick must have missed my question. I’ll ask again (third try).

I bought ZBrush 2 on Mac specifically for the free ZBrush 3 upgrade, as the app looked amazing and the results spoke for themselves. This was in March '08.

I do believe Zbrush 3.x is due shortly, but I’m now really worried that - some 5 months later - my expensive Quad G5 PPC machine won’t be supported.

As a fully paid-up owner of ZBrush, I believe I’m entitled to a straight answer to this question:

Will the next update of ZBrush on Mac run natively on my PPC Mac?

Thanks. I look forward to your answer shortly.

you may as well as for next weeks lottery numbers while you at it

Maybe you need to take another approach…

… Aurick, if the answer to Darth Mole’s question is yes then say nothing. Don’t reply. Also if the answer is yes to if we are getting OSX ZMapper and that ZBrush OSX will be released in the next few weeks to coincide with Siggraph 2008 like we are speculating then say nothing.

Of course if the answer is no to any of these you will need to post and tell us exactly what’s going on

Ha ha ha

How can my perfectly reasonable question possibly be construed as anything damaging to Pixologic? Why will they not answer? What possible harm could it do to them?

If (as I suspect) the answer is no, I will simply have to go and buy a new Mac. I have to at some point - but to use ZBrush 3.x I’ll happily move that date forward and pick up a new 8-core MacIntel.

Of course, I’m sure a lot of existing PPC users will moan - but they’re going to moan anyway, whether you tell them today or next week or at SIGGRAPH or whenever the Mac version is released. Assuming it ever is.

If the answer is yes, then great. The investment in my Quad G5 is secure for a few months longer; I’m a happy ZBrush owner.

The lack of a response is almost childish. It goes against any sense of logic; it goes against any sense of customer support; and it’s simply rude.

Pixologic might have my cash, but they sure as hell don’t have my respect,

^^AMEN to that^^

Yep, they got our cash this time, but probably not next time. EF’m if I can get anything remotely close on my mac I’ll support it. AS mentioned earlier someone mentioned 3D Coat, looking good.

Yep this time they take advantage of the lack of similar software on the mac but I’m sure this will not last for ever. I hope mudbox or 3Dcoat release a mac port soon so I could happily say goodbye to pixologic for ever…

I haven’t replied because there is no answer to give at this point. System requirements are always about the LAST thing to be announced concerning any software release (ZBrush or otherwise).

The development team is doing their best to release a version that is compatible with both kinds of Macs. IF it comes down to supporting one platform or the other, the obvious winner will be the one that has not been discontinued by Apple. It is also possible that IF a PPC version cannot be released with the Intel version, it would follow the Intel version.

As you can see, there are some big “ifs” in that statement. In other words, in answering your question I’ve given you no real answer at all. That’s because there is no real answer yet. Nor is there likely to be one until when the Mac version is released.

So my recommendation is to wait and see. Why buy that new computer now when you can hold onto the money and earn interest from it?

Folks, please don’t push me for answers to questions that I haven’t given an answer to. I share everything that I can.

I’m saving for a Mac tower and I had switched my MAC licence for a Windows to play with it on my brothers new Intel iMac. But Photoshop and everything else I have is on my Mac, so I haven’t played with it much. It is great to play with and I can’t wait for the Mac version, but I will happily wait. That is all i really can do. I plan to use it to make my comic book characters in 3D, because I want to possibly bring 3D printings of them to SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) 2009.

In other words, no news at all… again.

Thanks for response Aurick. I understand you’re hamstrung by Pixologic’s bizarre policy of non-communication so any answer is good.

To be honest, I think you did answer my question. At least I now know that the developers are trying to make a PPC version.

The only favour I ask is that IF the PPC version looks like it’s not going to happen, can you tell us sooner rather than later? Otherwise we could be hanging on forever…

Aurick the fact that after 1 1/2 year Pixologic doesn’t have any answers at all is a bit disconcerting. When exactly is Pixologic planning to have any answers?

PS: If after all this time you (Pixologic) don’t know if you’re going to support 2 completely different CPU architectures than I can honestly say that Pixologic’s only interest is to ridicule it’s customers.

I was pretty hopeful that ZB3 for mac might be here soon until I read this. If they don’t even know which models the new version will be available for, they must still be miles away from the final release.

An ironic and rather flippant remark when made to people who have had money tied up in ZB2 and 3 for years waiting for this upgrade.
