Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

on a side note;
I just got VMware Fusion to successfully transfer my Parallels VM to the new Fusion 2beta and … Voila! My 12x18 Wacom pen pressure is finally working in Zbrush 3 on my MacBook.

Fusion seems a bit zippy-er and works great on my 1680x1050 second monitor AND allows for more RAM to be dedicated to XP. :+1:

Anybody try ZB3-MacIntel with a Wacom Cintiq wx yet?

(really don’t like Boot Camp at all. Too creepy).

Simple answer; they have a floor full of programmers. Zbrush is just one guy, Ofer, who is a genius.

Hard to delegate work to people who are bewildered by ones brilliance.

Is it really programmed by Just One Guy ?
whoa, respect!

Hey guys, while we still waiting… DNFTT

One programer? SIGH! what if he dies or something? He needs to start teaching someone else how to handle the zbrush code. Zbrush isn’t a video game. Damn I’ll have to go to the zbrush labs and start my Z-FU training.

Grabs his staff and walks to zbrush labs. I’ll take a flute to so I can look all cool and monk like.

peace

Anyone taking bets on ZB4 at Siggraph? For BOTH pc and Mac?

wow if zbrush is really programmed by 1 man.utmost respect to him,but why did not the zbrush personnel come out and say so?i hope this is comedy relief or the poor man will never sleep and apples will have osx 10.6 by the time he figures out osx10.5

hey i just wanted to say that i was strictly a mac user, using maya. when i got the earge to learn zbrush, i bought a pc and got zbrush 3. switching to windows vista was worth every penny, and just because of zbrush, i now have no problems with pcs, even though i still love my mac

The 1 programmer thing was a joke…

Just to let you know. I would NEVER buy a new computer just to run 1 application.

I’m waiting for ZB4 ! … oh, wait. That was a joke too.

Oh, guys… and girls.
I’ve got another joke for you.

How about, I sell you the latest version of the incredible application called ZBrush.
What?
Of course it runs on the Mac. Don’t worry about what the website says, you’re getting the latest version, version 3.
What’s that?
Oh, I’m afraid it’s not quite done.
I tell you what, you buy the old version (2) and we’ll ship you the update when it’s ready.
When will it ship?
Soon,… very soon.

LOL ! Well said!

hey electriccat- u say’ Just to let you know. I would NEVER buy a new computer just to run 1 application. '… and thats why i was hesistant buying a pc… but the fact of the matter is that most other programs i use get pc updates before mac, so now i mostly jus use pc for everything.

i have latest maya, the adobe production premium package which includes after effects, and zbrush 3.1 n everything works fine. for me it was worth buying, even though its all just a hobby. if i never got it i would still be hating pcs and wishing they would make zbrush 3 for mac

konjo that’s quite the hobby rig
doing pretty well at 21!!

electric - I’ve been meaning to mention
that handle is a cool one! I beta tested
Photoshop 4 (code named big electric cat).
The file was 4 mb and took half the
afternoon to download over my 28.8kbps
dial-up connection…

I generally try to give developers the benefit of the doubt.

They know things we don’t, they see problems we don’t, and there are still problems even they don’t see, which makes predicting timetables incredibly difficult.

Good things come to those who wait, and patience is a virtue. True.

But I’d be lying if I said that I don’t regret spending my money. I’m not trying to flamebait or unnecessarily rag on Pix on their own forum, and I’d hate to be the cause of another thread lockage, but in all honesty, I think I’d be better off at this particular moment if I saved an extra few hundred and sprung for Modo… I’m sorry to sound like such a jerk, but my hopes have been elevated and dropped consistently and repetitively. In all honesty, I wouldn’t put money on anything earlier than December. Who knows, maybe I’m hyperbolizing here, but I don’t see how I can take any “it’s coming, soon” as a genuine reason to anticipate anything anymore. I hate to say it, but this has taken a completely exorbitant amount of time.

The only thing that can justify this kind of wait is the quality of the final product. In short, ZB3 had better be nothing short of jaw-droppingly spectacular. I had better be running to my toilet, embarrassed for having pooped myself at its awesomeness the first minute I run it.

Again, I apologize if I’ve offended anyone, but this is merely the situation as I see it. I harbor no ill will towards Pixologic and I understand that the devs are doing their best. Let’s just say I’ve given them the benefit of the doubt for so long that I’ve run out of benefit. If that makes any sense…

I bought ZBrush at version 1.5. I haven’t paid for an upgrade yet and I still won’t be paying anything for ZB3.x mac. Although I am really fed up of having to start up in a different OS to use it, I just can’t bring myself to get really really mad. Look at all the new tools I got for free since v1.5. Amazing. It’ll be even more amazing when I can run it natively.

Just having some fun.

Super Glitcher -
I thought that nobody would recognize it. Are you testing any other betas? I’m on for CS4 Photoshop.

konjo kothar vignar -
I understand your pain. I teach on both PC and Mac so I know what it’s like to bounce back and forth. I prefer the Mac so that is why I complain here so much about the late release. I’ve got 3 Macs and 1 old PC (running ZBrush 3.1). These apps run well on both platfroms. I have Photoshop and Maya crash both the PC and Mac lab computers all the time. To say that one platfrom is more stable… huh! I haven’t seen it.

The bottom line is that Pixologic has adopted the “shut up and ignor them” attitude which is what angers me the most. We all know how great an app ZBrush is and we understand it’s future will be even better. But, show the MAc users a little respect by communicating with us in a more timely manner. That’s all we’re asking… talk to us!

PS11 eh? sounds like a fun one  tell me they’re doing ‘something’
with the brush system!!

I’m ‘in line’ for the Mac / Houdini beta… nothing else
at the moment. ‘Trying’ to be productive these days (ha!).

If pixo doesn’t have the resources to run a communication
channel with the Mac users, maybe let other Mac users do
it for them? Very simply, allow the beta testers on the Mac
platform to post about the process.

The only potential caveat I see here is if they’re
developing new features that aren’t deployed in a Windows
version ‘yet’ - but as the goal is synchronus release, this
shouldn’t be a problem- it’s been that very situation for Mac
users for quite some time now.

quote from loki ‘ZB3 had better be nothing short of jaw-droppingly spectacular. I had better be running to my toilet, embarrassed for having pooped myself at its awesomeness the first minute I run it.’ i can say honestly thats how i was when i first started using zb3, im still in constAnt awe of its awesomeness :)…electriccat---- i didnt mean to say pcs are more stable than macs, i know maya crashes any type of computer. i agree with u that mac users shud be steadily updated, explaining why delays, etc…

i wish i coudl afford houdini to start learning lsystem ecosystem simulations /cry

is there any hot news about mac version of Zbrush ?
Guess they are waiting for zbrush 4 , hope not.
