Lessons In Zbrush 3 (videos)

bandwidth exceeded says the host

Looks like the members have been learning at a really fast pace.
What with all the 1.2 terabytes and 45 members.

HAHa house has reached a stage where I have no idea how to contain it anymore. There isnt a server out there with 1.2 tbs of bandwidth under what the site actually yields. And thats still with veoh backing it.
I’m not raising prices either that won’t help anything. I’m just going to have to ask the members of house to ride this out at the end of each month. Thats when the bandwidth gets exceeeded and then its only down for a day or two.

I wonder how much this is tasking veohs systems;)

btw its back up now

So … any idea how I can fix this? Check my previous post if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

gulch never had that happen but I had it installed like long before the upgrade and when a upgrade came I was probally the first to download it.

The one thing I have always learned if you have a problem the odds that sombody else has that same problem are like 1000%

I would start at veoh forums.
The people that make veoh barely ever answer, but the users are always good about answering questions .

hmmmmmm so come to think about it the pixologic users should fit right in;)

ok wow there is alot of teed-off people in that forum and gulch they all have the same issue.

Looks like alot are going over to megavideo somthing so I’m going to see how hard that might be to setup.

If anyone knows a nice veoh like site post it here. I’m always up for a new idea;)

the following is a test of the national tutorial system this is only a test

Hmm will test more tommarow ignore this post

YOU SEE NOTHING!
NOTHING

HI

I dont want to nerv but how can i watch the ZSphere Tutorial. Can someone please upload it for me on Rapidshare?
Tried IE and Firefox…nothing works for me.
Thx in advance!

2step

until I get more organized with this here

http://www.megavideo.com/?v=Y8QHPH2D

that should keep you busy for a few;)

Don’t go uploading any vids to rapidshare I’m working on a veoh replacement now.

Ok, i got VeohTV to work now and i was able to download the videos, thanks a lot for sharing :+1:

But one more question: Is it normal that creating the displacement map took me more than 3-4 hours? :grimacing:
and the maps have only 45MB when they are done
My tool has 6 levels, with the 3m~ polys at the highest level!
my system:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
2.09 GHz
1.00 GB RAM

In your video it looks like it took you only 40mins~ creating the maps…
What do you think?

Ok then … I’ll be looking up some other tutorials for now then :). Hope VeoH fixes it soon or that you get another media tool :).

if this had been an actual emergency you will be notified where to go for the tutorials…

hi mushroom

thx for the link.Is it possible to download the video? Because of my age i prefer to watch it a little bit bigger on my computer and not in a browser window. I know i can make it fullscreen out of the browser

2step

train the 3 to 4 hours is sorta high Check your UVS
tool/texture/UVcheck
if you see red your UVS are overlapping and that will up the time alot!

Full screen.

Since megavideo only has Premium members=download you can become a pre-member or a member at house.net.

megavideo= smaller resolution but is up 100% of the time since they are a huge business.ust have premium membership to download full screen

house.net = better resolution but bandwidth sorta goes downhill around the 207th of the month and is shut down for a couple days as artists begs for more power. videos always has full screen power

Veoh= Good resolution, 100% uptime but the downloader for the videos is pretty freeken horrid and makes the little professor calculator look like the latest technology.

The choice is up to you;)

So anyway thought I would share what I have been up too.
Pretty soon will start the mental ray breakdown. Where I touch base of certian elements of the ever so popular rendering engine and how Zbrush plays in the fun.

First off SSS

Unlike my 1 2 3 approach towards learning I will be trying somthing new for the material class.

Per material learning
Glass, Stone ect ect ect and Flesh

And then switch to texture and lighting with Maya and Zbrush in an enviromental outlook.

should be pretty fun;)

SSS should be released hopefully for this weekend. Including everything on the maps / scene setup / lights ect ect ect

heres a sneak peek where I’m at so far

Dont pay any attention to the eyes there just me playing with mental ray car paint;)

And here is some of the bushes I had to develope for upping the resolution contrast / resolution on textures

http://www.houseoftutorials.net/polygons/resbrushs.zip

Makes painting skin fun again;)

sss.jpg

Great results. How are your render times?

Great cannedmushrooms!
Tnx a lot for this news about your SSS Analysis! I’ve lot of problem in this matter…
Certainly I will follow your lesson about it!

:sunglasses: :+1:

Well I havent made the textures into a memory mapable format yet.
But for FULLY cranked(image above for example) 4min 38 sec. and that is with all 2048 tga format textures.

with anti turned down I get 1min 45 secs

The mapable format should even cut that back alot

heres it is without anti.

I’m brand new to ZB3, I can’t wait to give this a try, thanks!!

I checked my UVs, everything looks ok, nothing red.
But what i noticed, creating the displ.-map for your Lizard:
it will took me 50~ minutes creating them by 6 subdlevels, lvl6 has 700k~ polys.
But if i divide it one more to get 3m~ polys, and then trying to create the maps, it will took me more than 170 minutes to create the displacement.
Same with my tool:
800k~ polys = 60~minutes
3m~ polys = 210~minutes
But the main problem i get after this is, that the maps are identical to the maps from the 800k polys both have 45MB  So back in Maya i can’t reach the details i normaly should have at my highest subd in ZBrush :frowning:
I know, getting 100% details is hard to reach but i’m far away of that, with displacement and normal map i will get only 60-80% of that maybe… and i really don’t know what’s wrong…
How do i get the Alpha Depth Factor for my maps? Cause after eporting them i can’t import them back to ZBrush in the alpha-palette “FILE FORMAT ERROR: unable to read the specified file”

Thanks a lot in advance!!! :frowning:

best regards
Train

alpha depth facter is baked within the map on a 32 bit alpha.
Now that does not mean its 100% the same for all critters.

I like
5
-2.5
in most cases

but it has ALOT to do with

if you are getting hardly and detail try
AD factor

If you map it getting to out of hand and puffing out to much then
AD factor auto

There is about a billion different things that screw up a displacement map workflow.

 1. Scale of model (make sure its UNIFied) under tool / deformation / Unify
 2. UVs out of wack (edges not being stitched or overlapping UVs)
 3. Level differation (goto the highest level delete lower / Reconstruct Sub D until you get back your lower) this will make sure you have a good diferation from high to low on your levels to build a disp map.

I hate to say it but there is also a tiny factor in systems as far as videocard and system speed and setup that will change speed and even color values in some cases. So the number one thing is knowing your computer. Once you see what works always repeat that process over and over.

Until then you are in the “WTF is wrong stage”
we have all been there;)
look over 1 2 and 3 and see if those problems are happening. They are the most common Zbrush maya mishaps
