Ive never had an issue with lazy brush til this version (r3)… Ive had 8 crashes today.
Nice video. Hope this gets resolved soon. It’s gotten to a point where with every stroke I paint I’m holding my breath hoping that I can get through it, just so I can save what I’ve worked on in the last five minutes. Very time consuming.
Are people getting this problem with windows 7 or vista ?
I have ZBrush on two computers, 7 and XP. I can get both to crash within 20 seconds using the method you see in my video. My “solution” has been to save after every tenth stroke or so, and save before I switch brushes or apply an alpha. I don’t like the trails feature, as it causes unpredictable results when it is high enough to solve the dotting problem of not using lazy mouse.
I cant get it to freeze, but im still not using r3 for modeling since problem might catch me out and ruin my work-flow.
I’m having the exact same problem at work. It’s quite unpredictable. Sometimes Zbrush lasts for quite a while with no problems and other times as soon as I start a stroke it just crashes. very strange, very frustrating.
I have this problem too. I’m using lazy mouse quite often especialy with dam_standard brush becouse it’s paint only dots without lazy mouse. It’s pretty weird to me how brush sampling works in zb3.5, it was a lot better in 3.1
Sorry for my English.
Are there any updates or workarounds for this? Right now I’m just not using lazy brush, but it would be nice to be able to utilize it again.
i’m curious, does anyone know if the microsoft c++ could be causing this problem, i have some double entry’s in my add/remove programs list and different years even, seems every time i install a game it adds/updates this, and i don’t remember zb3.1 needing or installing it.
this bug has forced me not to use 3.5r3 at all, the fear and anxiety of possibly losing my work every 5mins was just too much to take, so back to 3.1 for now, please fix this soon, another update would be welcome.
Here’s something mildly useful. The stroke I draw right before the last stroke that crashes zbrush has a small hiccup. If you see it(the small dot pauses for a quarter of a second), you should definitely save your file right away because the next stroke is guaranteed to freeze/crash your zbrush.
Sonn i posted the same thing earlier in this thread, what is even more interesting is that you can switch to another brush, or turn off lazy mouse and zbrush will be fine, until you turn on lazy mouse again and use a stroke, to me that is really strange.
Hey Spaceboy
You can turn on “Trails” in the Brush>Modifiers sub-palette. That will help out.
Paul
gabo, thanks, i’ve actually been doing that, but trails leaves a bit of messy edges unlike lazy mouse, any idea how to stop that?
What is your Trails at? Do you have an alpha on the brush? The intensity slider will help restrict that as well. You should be keeping the trails slider under 10 for this.
Paul
Hey
A User in another thread said when he change the Activate LazyMouse, LazyRadius to 1 and LazySmooth to 1 he was not getting crashes. Try that and see.
Paul
yes alpha with trails, i found that i could only replicate the brush i was used to using “fallofsharp(selwy)” by turning up the mouse averaging all the way and even then still not as nice and clean as lazy mouse.
second workaround you lose two of the important features of lazy mouse.
neither of these workarounds are really worth what you lose. i’ll just wait for the next release hoping it will be fixed. thanks.
Adding my name to the list for what it’s worth.
Crashes on my work machine but not on my home machine thankfully. Pretty much caused my progress at work to come to a screeching halt.
Nyx702, what are the differences between your two machines, OS etc
Actually… scratch that…
It happens on both machines. Sorry about the mis-information. I just didn’t realize that was the cause at home. I tested it and sure enough… after about 10 mins crashed to desktop.
Here are the specs anyways:
Work:
Windows XP Professional SP3
Dell Precision T3400
Intel Quad Core Q9550
Nvidia Quadro FX 570
4 gigs of RAM
Home:
Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 5200
Nvidia GeForce 7900gs
4 gigs of Ram
Both are the most current versions of Zbrush 3.5r3
Change the intensity slider in the trails option. Do you have an alpha on the brush as well?
