lazy brush freezes up 3.5R2

I have exactly the same problem: Total Freeze on Mac OS.
I use a mac Pro 8x2.8ghz 10goRAM, OS 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard).

A system monitoring tool shows that I use only 26% of the RAM, but when freeze occurs, I reach 100% CPU 1st core use.

Any solution to this issue ?

My problem occurs when doing a model(mostly sculpting hair) with a big subd count, around 3 million polys or more, and then using the lazy mouse with whatever brush i have sometimes locks up zbrush after awhile usage of it. When i open up my task manager, its’ always at 100% and stays that way until zbrush is closed. Most often you’'ll know when the program has hung if it isn’t using your system resources anymore and still fails to operate, but for this one it uses all your system resources before you close zbrush.

I hope someone comes up with a solution, cause this sort of problem occurs everytime and not some random thing, makes me want to go back to 3.1 just so i can sculpt hair at a 3 million polycount.

Just another update. I had it freeze on me twice this morning. Both times using lazy mouse with the standard brush. No subtools, mesh was under 500k. I had polypaint on, but I don’t think that has anything to do with iit. Lost an hour’s work… Anyway, just an update.

Hi,

I confirm the constant lazy mouse freezing and Zbrush 3.5 R2 crash. Standard brush, no alphas.Tested on Windows 7 Ultimate and Xp 64.
I will have to switch all my work back to 3.1 pain pain …

Same here. After a few brush strokes with LazyMouse enabled, ZBrush freezes and I have to kill the process in TaskManager. I can do maybe 10-15 brush strokes, after that it’s over. Standard Brush, no imported brushes.

petz this is listed as fixed now in R3

Hi Spaceboy. I’ve been all through the forum, and I haven’t found where the lazy mouse freeze has been fixed. For me R3 is exactly the same as R2. Could you tell me where you read it was listed as “fixed”? Thanks.

so far i’ve been using R3 and testing out the lazy mouse on a model i had freeze before using r2, so far it hasn’t crashed yet, maybe they did get it fixed. Let’s hope it holds up in the long run…

Hey, Kong. Try using the lazy mouse for awhile, then add an alpha. This crashes it for me in just a few strokes.

firstly i didn’t make that up its in the 3.5r3 changelog:
Fixes and modifications:
Fixed ZBrush startup sequence (default zscript was executed twice at start-up instead of once).
LazyMouse no longer crashes ZBrush.

secondly i’ve had it crash twice myself in r3.

Not everyone is affected by this issue.

Anyone tested with making custom brush with an alpha ?

Since might be problem of actually loading alpha by hand that is causing crashing for some people.

Are you still using R2?

Paul

alright, its confirmed, lazy mouse still crashes zbrush up in r3. I tried it out with any native zbrush brush with lazy mouse on, on a high subd geo, it sometimes still crashes. It may not be as frequent as in R2, but still crashes, hope it gets fixed soon.

agreed that it is still happening, one thing i’ve noticed is for me its been freezing on a slow stroke, and the stroke will just stop, i’ve learned that if i do another stroke with the lazybrush it will crash, however if i switch to another brush i can do normal sculpting and even save, BUT the second i turn lazymouse back on and try to sculpt it crashes, which is just weird, its almost like it can only accept so much lazy stroking per session.

Funny how such small bug can completely ruin a program. Since its pretty crucial tool to sculpt your models with.

They really need to just release small patch, fix it now and for ever.

Hello

Can you please use a tool that ships with ZBrush to test on to see if you get the crashes? Subdivide it up to the level you need to produce the crash.

For Example,

Tool is the Dog
Subdivide it to 6 million
Lazy mouse will crash when?
What brush were you using with lazymouse?

I can not duplicate this issue so I need some specific parts to the test. Use a ship tool because I obviously have that. Unless you want to put your tool up somewhere that I can download for testing.

Thank you.

Paul

someone posted a video using the default sphere here :

Ahhh! Same here. Locks up with no recovery file. Any news on this problem?

Thank you for the link to the video it helped a lot.
