lazy brush freezes up 3.5R2

its pretty much official i have found lazybrush freezes up 3.5 after a few minutes of use .

Are you still basing this on your use of imported brushes created for use with 3.1, or have you encountered this now with native 3.5 brushes?

If so, you should probably make a support ticket and provide Pixo with the advanced system info they might need to take a look at your issue. I use Lazy Brush pretty extensively, and have not yet encountered this.

can you explain under what circumstances?
what version are you using?
can you post a video?

the circumstances are im sculpting a mustache fast strokes on the highest level of subdivision using a lazy brush feature to smooth out the lines. after awhile it freezes up.i did this with the current standard brush i used it as a starting point to recreate the brush i had mentioned in a previous post.how would u want me to go about making a video?

im using 3.5 r2

I had much of the same freezing issues ( ends with 1 or 2 remaining red dots from the digital string)…happens here with 3.1 brushes…

Same thing happening here. I’m using the Sewly cloth brushes and they constantly freeze zb :frowning:

I just rebuilt the brushes using the standard 3.5r2 brushes as a base. However, that doesn’t bring back any of the time or hard work I put into my cloth sculpting which i LOST due to this unknown bug.

I would request that Pixologic inform everyone that this will potentially occur when using 3.1 brushes, as many of us have an extensive library we are going to now have to go back and update. Secondly, a feature that autobacks up the .ztl now and then would be fantastic or one that saves out a the current .ztl in some recovery database whenever zbrush hangs due to this brush issue would be fantastic.

Lastly, I don’t think it really has anything to do with Zb 3.1 brushes being used as I just had the exact same hanging of ZB 3.5r2 occur using a standard brush with Lazy Mouse. I guess it’s back to 3.1 for me until Pixologic gets this instability with Lazy Mouse sorted.

Vista 64bit sp1
dual xeon quad cores
Quadro FX 4800

Not sure if that will help narrow down the problem any.

Also happening with me.

Blerg. Happening at work this morning as well. Same machine specs using just standard brush with lazy mouse. After sculpting for about 20-30 minutes or so it will hang. The hang occurs after you make the stroke and pick the pen up off the tablet but the red line of the lazy mouse just hangs there and zbrush freezes up. Is it a known bug? Not real sure how to replicate it as it seems to occur randomly. Same thing is happening with my co-worker as well.

too bad, I haven’t been sculpting for a while (learning modo)…
hope this one got fixed soon.

Kinda makes new zbrush useless to use. Since you do use it fair bit and its kinda random. So your constantly saving

—May of found fix for this—

Its either your undo levels or your custom UI.
I brought my custom ui from zbrush 3. So now im not using any custom ui for lazy brush anymore or any settings related to it.

I also lowered my undo levels to 12 thinking might be memory issue when gets up to certain amount of strokes it has a fit and hangs there.

I havent had hang since changing those things, but you never know with these things

Hello Wayniac

There is a recovery system with the new version of ZBrush 3.5. You have to turn it on first though. It is found in the Preferences>Performance>Auto File Recovery. what version of windows are you using?

Forgot to mention this only works on a crash. SO if ZBrush gets hung up then you will not save the file. It is being saved in the Recovery folder when ZBrush crashes.

kravit, do you mean only cutom ui or our own config files as well? i’ve had my undo set at 4 and still get the crash but haven’t tried it without my custom ui and config. It would be a massive pain to have to rebuilt all of that.

I wouldnt worry about what i said now. I had zbrush freeze on me yesterday. It did it once for whole day.

May I ask if you guys are working with models from zbrush 3.1 ?
Just wondering if it hangs with models from zbrush 3.1.

Thanks for the reply gabo. Unfortunately most users expressing an issue are having the same thing im having, which isn’t a crash, but a total app lockup that has to be shut down from the task manager.

HOWEVER, I would like to note that even using the brushes from 3.1 (sewly/dam standard) the hanging up is occurring a LOT less frequently now. It’s as if 3.5 just needed some burn in time or something haha! It’s the same result on my home box, work box, and my co-workers system. Initially very unstable with lazy mouse, then a slow increase in stability. I’m still saving every 5 minutes just in case though

I tried to narrow down some common denominators as to what might be causing it, but initially it was being experienced with .obj’s from XSI into 3.5 and using some custom brushes created directly in 3.5 to mimic some brushes from 3.1. Even then it was crashing.

However, there IS still an issue with getting things into and out of ZB with the scale/centers/etc intact. I’ll see if i can’t figure out how to send in a support ticket and log the bugs I find. These things won’t get squashed if Pixologic doesn’t know they’re there.

it is still happening to me regularly, a little less if i turn off align cursor to surface. and yes its a freeze not a crash, so no recovered files even.
i want to say i think its not so much lazy mouse as much as the lazy mouse cursor display, i think this is why trying to sample using the color palette crashes too, display issues.

Same problem here. I too, mainly use .obj from XSI/Softimage. Don´t now, if it is the main reason, cos I have no other 3D application to test it out.

Hope it´s gonna be fixed. Saving every second stroke is a pain

Happened to me three times in a row just now. First thing in the morning and I’m already having a headache  It’s not the 3.1 brushes. I using the regular standard brushes and lazy mouse freezes up. It’s very unpredictable; I could be using zbrush for hours and not have it hang at all, and then have it lock up multiple times within an hour doing the same thing on the same model. Man, so annoying.

Seems I am now a member of this sad group…Freeze on 3.1 import brushes with LasyMouse…Now im sad
