WOOOW A REAL KUDU!!!
get me my rifle, quick!!!
absolutely amazing work, congratulations!!
One of the most beautiful models I’ve seen on the board yet. You’ve captured the animal’s essence, nice work!
One of the BEST 3D animals outside of the Production studios I’ve ever seen!
. The only thing more you could do would be to either render him in a scene, or better yet animate him in a scene
. In all events you’ve done an outstanding job.
There are no actual UV map layouts to show, just the AUV mosaic grid of tiles. Since I decided to use ZB’s AUV tiles, I created a large projection map to start, using ZApplink to Photoshop. This was projected on both sides of the model via Projection Master. I usually unwrap the mesh to make a pelt map to work on directly in Photoshop.
Here is the initial projection map I created in Photoshop and how it layed on the model before hours of tweaking.

Here are some more views of the model, with and without the final textures.

Stunning.
Where was the fur done? Wow.
The goatee, neck, back and tail hair was created in Cinema 4D using the Hair module, then converted to mesh to add color material via Photoshop and BodyPaint.
The short body fur was done in Photoshop.
Here is a tutorial I put together showing the technique:

amazing work quadart
thanks for sharing your fur technique.
thats realy going to help me out alot. thanks Q
i love that we have something else then a monster deamon or character model in the toprow. I like the model and the fur tut is nice and easy as wel thx quadart
hi Quadart,
a stunning piece…
and thank you for your fur texture technique.
Prosthetix
This really is a refreshing change from all the monster heads (no offense)
I just wish we had hi-res color 3D printers that could do this kind of detail!!!
I love the little stand you made for him, it gave this model an extra sense of realism.
My only criticism is the fur texture on the shoulder seems a little blurry, even so on the pelt map you showed. Contrasted with the C4D hair you put directly above which is VERY sharp (maybe too sharp?) it makes the two seem unnatural to me.
If you could somehow blur the C4D hair a little and sharpen the fur, i think it would balance nicely!
Congrats on winning, when i saw this was in the contest i thought, “If this didn’t win, I can’t imagine what did!”
i like your work thank you for the tutorial
This is so first class. Please keep posting your stuff.
Thank you very much for drawing a lesson on texture of fur, as well as for the original, this simulation.
A fantastic work with the incredible success and the result!
Good luck.
