Kraken's Illustrations Thread

Latest img looks great! Made so fast - awesome! :+1: !

Here’s a few other recent illustrations created for some printed products… Too bad the demographic these items target doesn’t decorate their homes with superheroes or dragons…

The sunflowers and ladybugs were all modeled and rendered in ZBrush. In the motorcycle design only the American flag was done in ZBrush. The bike and the rendering for that design was done in Modo.

great stuff! any chance you could share how you did the sunflower seed pattern?

Great work. That sunflower looks fantastic. Those sunflower seeds are objects that you arrayed in another app, right?

Hi Shhark,

Basically the center was just a simple half sphere squished a bit. Then in photoshop I created a custom alpha which would cover the whole center section with these dots that look a little bit like sand dollars. Then used that dot pattern as a mask to cover the center section. Once masked, I just used radial symmetry set to about 30 and pulled out the details from the surface and smoothed a bit. On the outer rim I pulled out a little further, then on the inner section with radial symmetry still active and the mask still active, I just used the move tool to pull everything inwards toward the center. A little bit of the nudge brush was used for adding a bit of irregularity to it and that was it.

I hope I explained it well. If not, maybe I can illustrate the process better at some point.

That’s one morbid trinity

Amazing stuff…
the sunflower and ladybug images look so cool…:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

And here’s yet another hummingbird design. This theme sells the best in my line of work. The sunflowers, ladybugs and hummingbirds were for printed fabric which is cut to the shape of the design. Basically a shaped banner for displaying outside of one’s house. That’s why there’s no background.

Rendered in ZBrush.

Hyper1, thanks! I’ve drawn SO many hummingbirds over the years for work, I could make one in my sleep… sometimes I see them in my sleep…

Aurick, thanks, man! I’ll try to get some screens of some of the steps I did tonight.

paulcopeland, thanks!

Burchigb, thank you! Glad to see people are getting something from that little tut!

Super Glitcher, thanks! A lot of what I did is very similar to what’s shown in my Cardinals tut, but I’ll show some pics of the different stages of the hummingbird and how I did the ruby throat.

Here’s a detail shot of part of the image.
