Hi everyone,
Itās been a while since Iāve posted! Iāve been working on a speed sculpt tutorial for the May 2009 issue of 3DCreative again. This time they asked me to do a cyclops character. So I went with the peaceful versionā¦more images to comeā¦hope you like!
Ahh⦠very nice Jesse. Canāt wait to see the article!

Thatās a speed sculpt!?!
slangford: thanks eh!
webhead: thanks for the comment. The eyeās tricky for sure cause one eye just looks unnatural anyways doesnāt it?
Intervain: thank you! thatās what I was going forā¦
LeoAMD: cool! You probably gave me too many thumbs up though.
Phrost: hehe, and the first to notice the cyclopās balls is Phrost! you cheeky monkeyā¦hehe
womball: well sorta. If you call 5 hours a speed sculpt. I actually had to redo the last hour because Camtasia flipped out on me when I went to save. Of course, I didnāt count that hour and just had to redo it. Actually went more smoothly the second attempt. And I saved my file a lot more!
Hereās a little turnaround of the whole dude.

Hi George! Have you posted this question to the rest of the forum for help? I would encourage you to do a general google search on exporting your work from zbrush to max. The easy answer is to export the obj at manageable level of resolution for max to handle and then use a normal map to project finer details. OR export out the lowest subdivision level and use displacement in max. A more detailed breakdown can probably be found in the ZBrush tutorials forum.
Hope that helps!
The cyclops is looking COOL!
Hey Jesse,
Looks good as always and great character. You are probably still working on this but i would say that the connection from the forearm to the bicep on the right arm seems strange. I donāt know that the forearm would deflate that much on contact with the bicep.
Hope to see more soon.
cool stuff uāve got there going mate
