sasquatchpoacher: First of all, big fan of your work. So thanks for dropping in. Your idea of doing the mass of hair may actually be better so it matches the sculptural feel of the beard and everything else Iām doing. I can always paint in some extra hairs in post for the illustration. What stinks is all that time I put into laying in that hair though! ha! Itās such a memory hogā¦gonna ponder this oneā¦probably need to just go for the mass of hair and see how it āfeelsā
anyone else think I should just do a mass of hair??
dhasian: thanks brutha.
What about trying to do the beard like the hair?
I think the way you made the hair makes the sculpt look more alive, not like any old dull marble statueā¦
wooooow no words very good
Ok, so yeah, a lot has happened since my last update it seems. Took off a week for vacation (Thanksgiving) and then I come back to another release of 3.5! Iām just now getting back into this Jesus model. I did some work on the hair in getting it to have the right gravity and curl to the strands that frame the face. I think Iām gonna go ahead and keep this look for his hair as I believe at this point, he has been literally beat up and whipped front and back and has got so much blood, sweat, and dirt in his hair that it makes it stringy and dingy.
anyway, I need to do more work on the chest area where I plan on putting in more lacerations from the whipping. Iāve indicated some markings on his neck and face alreadyā¦everything else in the scene is still waiting in line for development. Also, it seems Iām losing a bit of the detail in the zbrush render process, so I think Iām going to need to amp that up a bit, particularly in the skin texturing Iāve done (pores, general skin feel)

Jesus sculptās super beautiful! Brilliant quality!
superb facial sculpt ! this is damn impressive work man the cloth doesnt strike me as soft material draped/wrapped around a body at the moment though , it looks very rigid in parts and the folding could have a bit more complexity to it ( but its most likely in its early rough stages ) ,hope you dont mind my small critique
excellent stuff
cheers,
d
solidsnakexxx - thanks brutha.
mayadamien - the cloth has been bugging me too. I was trying to go for a sculptural/burlapish type feel but I donāt think itās fitting like I was hoping. Iām gonna work on that some moreā¦thanks for the compliment on the facial work. thatās the most important part to me. btw, great work on your Spawn character - fantastic.
This is really good work. Iām enjoying your videos a lot.
Superb work, great expression. Love the way you sculpt the face. Keep it up!

hey thanks Scrybe and palafoxx! more updates to the Jesus model will continue to come alongā¦
ā¦but for now, hereās a couple quick busts I did tonight for some students tonight (palafoxx!): just a little over an hour each.

Great updates! Love the quick busts too! Sweet hardsurface freestylinā !
Thanks Etcher! Those were a nice change of paceā¦
More progress on the Jesus model:
worked on his right hand a bit todayā¦this angle doesnāt show off the pose and reaction to the weight that heās carrying so Iām mainly just presenting the detail workā¦
A silly point over your awesome model about Jesus:
Is well known that it was impossible he had 33 when he died. It seems he should had 36 or 39 years old or maybe more and that he was born in April/May (if this help somehow )
In other words: You can go a bit further with wrinkles if you want!
Really like that sculpture! Good work! and Hope you texture/paint it.
If I may, Iād like to critique the hand detail just a bit. Iām a lanky fellow (160 lbs., 6ā0"), and I studied my hand a bit to help observe what it is about the model of Jesus that was slightly bugging me. With an object that large, bulky, and heavy, I feel like it wouldnāt make a difference if I pressed my fingers into the shape of the load itself, but that my lower palm would be pressed into it. Looking at the back of my hand when I do this, I saw the tendons stuck out in very high contrast to the rest of my hand, and that the wrist area between the back of my hand and forearm has far more wrinkles than what the model has. Maybe increase the wrinkles there, in the area just below the very obvious wrinkle on the wrist of the model, and make the tendons stand out more; this would also create more contrast in the light. The web of the thumb and first finger should have a fold or two as well - keeping my thumb even with my palm (as if I were placing my hand on a flat surface), the only way to avoid the fold is to have the thumb completely extended and at as close to a 90 degree angle to the palm as I can. From the look of the model, the thumb looks to be closer to 45 degrees, meaning there should be a bit more flesh bunching at the base of the thumb, as well as folds. I apologize if I over-elaborated, I just wanted you to know what I was basing my critique off of - itās an exceptional model.
thanks for your comments Gentleman and Losgunn. Iāll definitely take those thoughts into consideration!
I took a break from the Jesus sculpt to finish off the Screaming Giant render Iāve been wanting to doā¦sometimes it helps me creatively to step away from a big project for just a momentā¦more on Jesus to comeā¦
for now, hereās the Screaming Giant render:

Thereās a whole bunch of really good work here, render quality, DOF, particles, great modeling, texturing, etc. , but the image oozes emotion. Maybe he just experienced a hard drive failure!
Great work, very polished IMO
Gary
Bravo, magnificent.
