hey thanks for the nice words 
im glad if writing up all those observations is helpful to somebody
a new one, a kitten, i think, something like that,
was a simple 2,5h sculpt
mostly claybuildup, damianstandard, inflate, some standard alphas, cheap teeth i had laying round
something i fancy right now is the ability to repeat anything you do by just clicking “1”, really useful for damstandard cuts
…but then photoshop took another 2 or so with me fiddling around and checking stuff,
getting frustrated about weird depth maps and annoying outlines,
in the end just gave the thing a white border glow and put it on white… pfft
you just gotta find the moment to stop i think

oh, just quickly, a picture showing how this revolver is made,
the hard surface low poly technique i detailed a few posts back;
i only added a few details like the grip structure or the text afterwards:
clever polygroup placing is all, then the magic subD will do all the sharpening and bevelling you like,
and if youre lucky you already have a usable low poly for realtime use,
(not in this case, i made some mistakes in regards to the drum pin and there is no proper inside for reload animations)
if you design a revolver,
start with the drum pin,
go over the drum to the barell,
then do the rest…
i realized my “ammo holes” are too large and as a result the pin in the center intersects with the much too thick barell,
which needs to be aligned with one of those holes… (bottom or top one usually)
just some uncoordinated doodle thing which totally was not inspired by something i found in my kitchen…

Some fool in Research and Development fed the politician’s soul! Or whatever it really is. Why would anyone do that? Have you people down there gone crazy due to radiation sickness already? The expensive, brandnew glasspearls and the shiny handmirrors we provide you with sure do provide enough protection to prevent such insanity! Get back to work and stop feeding that thing!

“Something went wrong in the Orphitecktion labs, basicly overnight the politician’s soul mutated again and broke out of its containment tank. It immediately started feeding on our unsuspecting scientists. The poor people, eaten by a politician, or his soul, bad enough we say. Janet from accounting was able to take some photos of it drifting through the hallways while she tried to escape back to her cubicle. She did not make it. Rest in Peace Janet from accounting. Rejoyce thou dear reader, we were able to recover the film. Yes we still use film. Its unicorn proof, you can’t take pictures of unicorns with digital cameras.”

looked at anthony jones, giger, furio tedeshi and peter konig rescently so probably influenced by those guys, also the mighty invisible, magenta coloured unicorn without which this photoshoot would not have been possible
“The Sinister Unicorn”
“According to a common misconception unicorns are understood to be fluffy, horselike creatures with a noble spirit. Orphitecktion Field Operatives however discovered that this assumption is far from the truth. Risking their own wellbeing they stood bravely, in neckdeep swamp water which, black as pitch and with a scent of decay, creeped into their allegedly watertight latex throusers. Silently they waited and eventually, during a full moon a few weeks later, they had slowly adapted to life in swamp water, it emerged. The unicorn appeared to steal innocent children from the nearby village of Grimlinghausen, where once the fair maiden Grimhilde, from sagas of old, was born. We decided to not interfere with the natural rituals of the rainland and let the unicorn proceed to creep towards the village. We were also concerned to inflict it’s wrath upon us. Safety first!”

“Waldemar was a good heart, it always beat just fine in the rythm of its demonic host, the succubus of Asgard. After it’s contract to drum the tunes of depravity and indugence in sinful delight had ended however, Waldemar drifted along, in time and space, looking for a new purpose.”

The trunk and stumpy legs of it’s land dwelling relative were replaced by useful and elegant tentacles, adapted to its environment, specialized to kill young spermwhales and giant crabs. It might look cute, but dont be fooled, the Jellyphant is one of the most posionous animals on Helios-9F.

if you want to render polypainted objects externally:
export as *.obj
import in “meshlab” (sourceforge freeware somin stuff)
export right away as *.obj (uncheck “polygonal”)
it will change ZBs native polypainting into proper vertexpain, larger filesize warning (roughly twice)
import into your favorite high poly renderer
"Wasps are awesome!
They might be annoying at times, eating your freedom fries, stinging you in the butt, going all conan on your BBQ group and such.
But they are awesome! If you treat them right, they treat you right. They eat dead and rotting bodies, preventing the spread of disease.
They also murder other insects, which is always useful, we superior mammals have no time for such menial duties.
They do not just live of your nightmares, as many belief, they eat fruit too, a single grape can feed a wasp family for days.
Never since i befriended wasps have i been stung or attacked, well, rarely, but i got so much love in return, and i feel much safer with a swarm of angry stingers around that protect me.

“After hearing Chantal du Cheracogne’s opinion on wasps last week, we, here at Orphitecktion Labs, decided to test her theory.
Are Wasps our friends if we treat them just right?
So we fed a flock of them with grapes, bacon, fly legs and tulip blossoms.
Then we proceeded to lock Chantal in a room with her friends and a bureaucrat’s eyeball looking at her tax report.
And to our disbelief, just as Mrs. Cheracogne predicted, the wasps protected her and attacked the imminent danger right away, saving her from the evil bureaucrat’s eye.”
self critique:
-wasp’s chitin material looks off
-uncomfy with eyeballs iris colour (partly due to render light settings)
-detail level not coherent enough
-still not sure wtf is even going on in this scene

the last doodle dude of last year
“Times had changed, farmer Praveen felt different, that year after the cataclysm, everything was different.
The changes were subtle at first, but soon everyone in his little village along the rhine river was affected. Some took their lives, some fell for alcohol and madness. Yet quickly it became normal.
The crops grew faster than ever and slowly the wold accepted the change, a chang they did not ask for but were delivered by Bayer and Monsanto anyway.”

somehow a catlike face emerged,
i doodled more,
decided to just render it out,
didnt like the upper arms,
simply used a colorized depth map for the stylized look…
