IRON MAN theme.

Hello to everyone,

What do you think about to publish here our work on Iron Man’s theme?
I begin with the study for the character’s helmet.

I’ve used my head scans only as support, I left it rough because the real subject is the helmet.

I used ZBrush 3.1 to create it, working on a 3D scan of the hero’s head, taken from a puppet toy. The 3D scan (made with David Laser Scanner, www.david-laserscanner.com ) was optimized with Rapid Form, redesigned with the ZBrush retopology tool, refined with 3D Studio Max.

In total, this work took about 24 hours of work.

I await your (strict and impartial) judgements,

Mattia

Nice work. I like the extended, jawline.
How’d you do the Neck Texture? that looks cool too.

Nice, was the helmet made in zbrush? or just modeled in max?
hehe i just noticed, whats with the weird cloth string hanging at the back?

Alpha map? you can do that for cloth and other material too.

looking nice, although the idea of philips head screws just seems a bad idea, they strip out too easily, i’d suggest replacing them with hex bolts, they look cooler too.

Hello (iron) men,

I know… the string hanging at the back is a “not developed” idea, just an object to decorate the neck  You can consider that like the “string fot glasses”
Imagine that Irom Man was shot in the back from a rocket… the helmet can be throw away, but this string lock it on the head

However… the neck surface is simple: only an intensity masking application, after I have push down the selected vertices.

About the screws: they are a joke, obviously, because I’ve modeled they like wood screws… but I liked the X cut

Soon as possible new update on this theme…

Fantastic model man - great attention to deail - what process do you use for getting hard edges?

Does any one have any links to good tuts?

Cool. Looks like the neck may be a bit small to support that weight but it’s still cool looking!

Hello,

@ SunsetSamurai: for hard edges, I’ve used only three edges in the profile areas. If you build two or more edges, very close between themselves, and after you subdivide the mesh, the edges appear hard and clean. I hope that this is the answer to your question…

Here under, an other image. Have a good week and… creates your Iron Men: is a good exercise and so, we can compare our works and learn from our mistakes.

Bye, Mattia

ey! verynice work:+1:

I like it very much and thanks for explein.
Do you post some image about how was “the head toy scan” before to redesig in ZB?

Hello,

As Mr Vinck asks, one image about real-base-object (2,5 cm x 1,5 cm x 1,5 cm) and the scans results: as you can see, with my free scan software David Laser Scanner (cost 0$), I can obtain quite well base-meshes for my works…
