I sculpted a leg of a goose. Once I satisfied with my work I duplicated the subtool tried to mirror it. My plan is to edit my layers for variation. 1. Zplugin>Subtool Master>Mirror With this option I mirrored my duplicated subtool with layers. But problem is when I trying to edit layers or on/off those layers… mesh corrupting (blasting)! Or on some assets normals reversed or flattening the sculpted details on sides of the asset. Once I failed with above options, I tried second option. 2. Deformation>Mirror It’s strait forwardly telling I have to loose my subdivision levels! So I deleted lower levels and morrored it. Once finised this action I came to know the mirrored one normals are reversed! Any how tried to get lower subdiv levels by Geometry>Reconstruct subdiv, level by level. It worked good. But finished subtool layers are not supporting to edit. Same problem… mesh curropting. I want to mirror a subtool without loosing layers and subdivision levels. Is there any option/method?
There is a way, but you’re not going to like it.
Take your mesh. Export out a .obj of each mesh at the highest subD level for each layer.
Append each mesh as a different subtool and mirror each one.
export out each one again.
append in your mirrored base.
make a new layer
import in your layer
repeat for each step
once done I believe you can reconstruct your subD levels…but I could be wrong on this. I avoid layers in Zbrush like the plague.
It’s workable method. Thank you. But your correct. I am expecting more professional method.
I had a thought. You could keep the mirrored leg as a place holder, and every time you want to change a layer just duplicate it and mirror it. Another thought, keep the origional leg as a reference make adjustments to the origional add it in, then revert tye origional back to its base state before alteration. One more thought… save the leg out as a subtool.
