Heavy Mech

Ah, I see what you mean, perhaps I misread.

You may just have to set it up yourself. Is called “Solo Mode” and its under the transform menu. Put it on whatever key you want.

Awesome sculpt. Did you or do you play starcraft 1 or 2? I’m afraid to get Starcraft 2 cause I know I’ll get sucked in .

great stuff…very inspiring. model looks great in the red chavant material.i’d been looking for ralf stumpf’s matcaps at gnomon but could’nt find.any idea where i can find them.

From the looks of the mesh, that’s extremely basic ZSphere sketching on top of a primitive Zsphere-rig and then taken a few steps further in the direction of a concept sketch. I assume many people might feel that’s not really worth covering in an advanced tutorial focusing on Hard-Surface Sculpting. Concepting is an entirely separate matter. You might want to check with Eat3D’s other DVD “ZB3.5 Overview” for ZSphere-Sketching. Not sure if the ZB4 Overview covers these topics.

It’s a great-looking product, so I made my purchase yesterday and am hoping to find the time to dig into the vids soon. Something like this was badly needed!:+1:

  Cheers!
Don't get me wrong it is a wonderful video and I'm glad to have purchased it.

It just would have been beneficial for me to see at least some of the ZSphere work and steps to get to this state.

Looks cool Mike … keen to get a copy to see your methods

wow,gr8 work on the hard surface modeling in z brush,! Outstanding…!:+1:

This is a brilliant video. It’s one of the best I’ve seen for ZBrush, ever, by far. Eat3D is invaluable. Mike, you are a great teacher - very clear, present and articulate.

The first three chapters are worth the price of admission IMHO.

Using these techniques to generate machined-looking meshes, as opposed to going back and forth via GoZ - in and out of modo, for example - is a REAL time saver, And helps maintain the creative workflow, as opposed to switching back to “technical mode”.

My only issue is that it generates hi-res base meshes for all forms / SubTools, as opposed to what I’m used to - which is extremely low base meshes for forms (which helps later on inthe process with posing via TransPose Master).

I’m applying these techniques to crafting leather armor, which has similar properties.

I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but out of curiosity am wondering about the ZSphere mesh as well. i.e. is it a combo of ZSpheres and ZSketch?

great video!

I just have one question:

somewhere in the 2nd chapter you bring up a subtool menu that looks much like the brush menu. You said a hotkey but that hotkey doesn’t work for me. how do you set this up/put a hotkey for it? I deal with tons of subtools all day at work so this would be helpful

N is the default key for subtools.

Wow I am soo getting this dvd, all the zbrush hard surface tuts I’ve seen before don’t even come close to this quality, a-m-a-z-i-n-g

Excellent!!!

I am so getting this DVD! Well, once I feel more comfortable with my human anatomy knowledge.

If you haven’t already seen these, here’s a couple links to some hard surface modeling workflows that I found to be a good compliment to Mike’s Eat 3D video training.
