Thanks Zaycoon. Everything is modeled in zbrush. The bell was made with a SweepProfile3D i then used alphas to add the detals, all the textures are mainly perlin noise made in filter forge and rendered in zbrush with a little post.
Still got a long way to go with this image, glad you like the progress.
Deleted image.
Your renders remind me a lot of the Lord of the Rings artwork. Awesome awesome awesome! The muted colors give a lot of age to the piece.
Still experimenting with rocks, i think i’ve got a workflow sorted now.
this looks like a … rock, gj
only problem is with the toxture dont fit all thst much with the cracks and teh details ;]
Thanks slocik, and thanks for the pointers about the texture. I’m on a mission to understand surface properties atm, i’ve learned so much just by doing these little exercises.
Here’s a head i’ve been working on, he’s a homeless guy and will eventually have a long hair beard.
Early days yet.

the model was awesome in xsi
you need more to do in zbrush
Here’s my cgtalk challenge entry, Fungi. The image was made 100% in zbrush.
Thanks for looking.
it’s green say the five element:)
Scary! But very well done!
Just one thing is there should be a shadow on the mushroom that fallow the shape of the crack, right now it feels pastes in photoshop.
Thanks guys
Sebcesior, to add a shaddow on the eye was one of my blocks in the challenge. It’s something i did try but it killed the surreal look that i was after, soft against sharp, pure geometry against noisy geometry, for some reason i wanted the eye to be a clean sphere, if you know what i mean, adding a shaddow broke that. Looking back i think you are right, but you live and learn.
heres an update on the head, added spec maps, adjusted sss etc. This guys will have long hair and a big beard eventually so i haven’t worked on the chin or neck area much. It looks a bit flat in that area to give me the best shot of adding hair strands without them flying off in all directions.
im really sensing reality out of this guy, good graphics.
Thanks rouncer.
Here’s an update on the skin shader and better lighting, still got to make adjustments to the maps.
That looks really nice. Are you creating the skin shader yourself?
ClintusMaximus
Thanks, no it xsi fast skin shader and mental ray. First time i’ve ever used it but i’m learning a lot tweeking settings and adjusting maps.
Here’s my final post on this guy, i know the model isn’t that great but it’s been and experiment for an xsi zbrush workflow. Now i know what i’m doing i’ll spend some time on a proper sculpt.
very nice!
Thanks Sebcesoir
Testing stage is over now, i’ve begun work on the proper sculpt for this guy, still only level-4 sub-d so lots to do yet. Just trying to get the anatomy sorted first.
