All these models are just superb.
Hey guys. Here’s the settings I used for my sss shader. I can’t show my textures plugged in as its to highres to display in maya. I just get a file icon. hehe. Hope this helps. Also I used 2 lights. One area light in the front and one point light in the back. The hdri is normal, Didn’t tweak it at all.
Rendered in mental ray with preview final gather enabled.
Cheers

Thanks a lot for your MR settings Brett… they are very useful for me!
Also very cool Creature!!!
Cool man. Just keep in mind that it may not fit your models render exactly. You’ll need to play with the weight and depth of each layer to suit your models size. Luckily they make this all really easy
he he … you are right Brett… but I assure you that I tried to understand the same task in LW and… is quite the same…
UtraCool Man!!!
The Skin colorizing is looking great. Cool concept too.
Wonderful and sticking within the sepia pallette is so effective
The model itself is wonderful. And the skin - nice leathery, dry look to it. One thing I really like is the fact that you allowed the lower tooth to affect the upper lip. It’s those kinds of details that invest a sculpt with more life. Well done!
Hey nice work, you seem to have improved allot since the first few pages
I really like the mottled skin your painting on the latest guy. I’ve been meaning to paint a model in zbrush ever since I saw Caroline Delends Grom… but havent got round to doing it yet. After seeing this guy I think I’ll give it a try
great paint work!
and sculpt too!
Alex Oliver
really like this character, what a great skin material and textures. looks like this will be a wonderful piece.
Excellent job on the color. The model is coming along great too.
Hey thanks for the kind words everyone!
piz: Thank you.
sadicus: Thank you.
boozy floozie: Hey boozy thanks for stopping in
filament9: hey thanks. I updated the lip more. I’ll post it up when I get chance.
spacemonkey: Thanks man. Love your work
alexleia: Thank you!
threetails: Hey man. How’ve you been? Still sculpting?
Bryan Silva: Thank you
Wow! I don’t know how I missed this thread. I just thought I’d add to the shouting about how good this all is. you’re very talented and your attention to detail is mind blowing. If I get to be half the artist you are, then I can die a happy man. Well done! :D
Hey guys.
dustbin1_uk: Hehe. Thanks man. There’s a lot of insanely talented artists here. But thank you!
Here’s an update on my dad. Added A spec map and painted the colour map using poly paint and zapplink. Its about 80-90 percent poly paint. What a cool way to texture
I’m still workin on the hair and moustache. I’m not happy with the results. For some reason shave and a haircut doesn’t cast shadows with final gather.. The shirt, tie and jersey are w.i.p. I may loose the tie.
Hope you like it so far.
Cheers
Brett
very good sculpting.
I like your latest monster.
Hi Brett!
I think that now the skin looks more realistic than the previuos and the backscatter visible on the ear is good… anyway I’m still learning more about this matter while I’m watch the Alex Alvarez free tutorials about FastSkin shader… I didn’t know that in MR you can’t have shadows of fur…!
I must test this aspect in Max… It should be work… I hope…
One thing… did you use Area light for this render?
Ciao!
P.s.
Excuse me for my Ugly English…
Hey Guys. Thanks.
Piz: I used hdri and 1 area light in the front and a point light at the back. Also I just had preview final gather turned on in the render globals. The sss shader is painful tweaking. The Alex Alvarez tut is great to understanding the sss shader.
Hehe. Your english beats my italian hands down
cheers
Brett
