GoZ Installation and issues - Manual install

Hi,
I tried to export a 3D Mesh from 3ds Max to ZBrush, but I still have issues with the object’s location.

First, when I import the .obj ZBrush puts the mesh right under the grid. Correct direction, no dislocated parts, but it’s not at X=0; Y=0; Z=0, it’s at X=0; Y0=0 and Z=0-‘object height’.
This doesn’t bother me that much, though, it might be linked to my major problem.

When I export the Model via GoZ to 3ds Max, the mesh ist upside down. I’ve tried the patch, but it didn’t change anything. Also the importexport settings didn’t fix it.

Does anyone have an idea how to deal with this?

Anyone answer the question for were there Maps show up in max when I importing from zbrush-4 using GoZ to max10 64bit? If you can Kindly link it for me?

I’m having some issue with heavy burn in Render? and can’t find my Materials or were they went too… but can view them in the Viewing screen :-/? Just started to using GoZ… so very nice :slight_smile:

I followed the instructions in the PDF that accompanied the download from the GoZ update page, but when I executed the following instruction:

Go to the Preferences palette >> GoZ and click on the Update all Paths button to search for target applications. For each target application found, install the needed components.

NOTHING HAPPENS!!! I click the Update All Paths button all day long and nothing happens. I have also insured read/write privaledges are set on the ZBrush4 folder. I have this loaded on my PC and it works fine…but I am having a bear of a time to get this to work on my Mac OS X Lion. Does anyone else have GoZ working on your Mac Lion? Thats a silly question, because if it was working, you wouldnt be here, reading this thread.

Please let me know what I need to do to make GoZ work…updating all paths.

My problem seems to be the reverse of everyone elses…when I launch Maya 2012 (Commercial Version) I have the GoZ tab.

When I click it with a mesh selected it will open Zbrush…BUT…when I click the GoZ in Zbrush and select Maya…it says the file was saved…but doesn’t open any instance of Maya …nor does it replace the current model instance (IF) I have Maya already opened.

I have tried everything listed as a fix…but nothing has helped…I will say this…

I do have a split configuration for my machine and am not sure if that matters. My OS (Win7 PC 64 bit version) is on my SSD along with the Pixologic folder…but Maya 2012 and all other files including all the other Zbrush folders are on my X drive…When I try to set the file path for Maya in Zbrush to the X://Autodesk/Maya_2012_EJ_Win_64-bit/Setup.exe I get a need to be running in administration warning…but I am running Zbrush in Administration…so I am really lost!!!

I have two (2) instances of Maya setup files on this machine and will be calling Autodesk in the morning to ask obout this. The other setup is in the x://program files/ Maya2012/Maya/Setup/Setup.exe and it is what I initially used to get the GoZ app to work in Maya 2012…but it doesn’t allow Maya to open from Zbrush so I was thinking the other is the right one for that…but it keeps giving me the admin warning and this other one didn’t…ANY BODY PLEASE HELP!

Actually I fixed it…and it was pretty simple :slight_smile:

Ah, I went to the actual icon for my Maya 2012 in the start menu and went to its properties to find the exact EXE location. Once I did that I went through the standard GoZ procedures and set the file path accordingly and >VIOLA<!! It worked like a charm :slight_smile:

My next issue is finding the location for the DAM Standard brush in R2…any suggestions?

It’s there in the brush menu. Press B D and S for the quicker way to select it.

im haveing a problem with GOZ im not sure if any of you had it here it is

[3DsMax] when i click the GOZ botton 3dsmax starts up but there is nothing in 3dsmax no object or anything at all ?

And the same go’s for MAYA thay are both 2009 if that has anything to do with it

it would help if there was a tutoreal on how to instal it for both 3dsmax and maya

and help on this problem would be great

my problems whit GOZ

  1. scale problems 3dsmax to Z, wht is the tips for this??
  2. Pivot POINt??? in Max here, on Z over there, is TERRIBLE
  3. no recognize objects when scenes in max and Z close and re-open another day, GOz dont work any more, he transfer the object but like stand alone object.

GOZ work if the scenes (max - Z) are close and reopen another day???

Try doing a uniform scale in Max, until your model is around 0.5 generic units in size more or less. Then go to the hierarchy tab and change your pivot settings there. For example, first reset the pivot, then center your object to pivot. You can see your results in the Tool:Preview window within ZBrush after transferring your model from 3ds Max. You may also want to go into polygon sub-object selection mode and use the graphite modeling tool “By Numeric” found within the selection tab. This will allow you to select all polygons that have less/more than four sides, which you’ll want to fix prior to export.

If GoZ stopped working, you might want to check your antivirus program to see if it is the culprit. I’ve had components of the past couple of versions falsely detected as a virus by Avira for example. It may just be a matter of telling it to allow GoZ to run. If it’s been deleted, you’ll have to reinstall (which you may want to try regardless) and reconfigure using the Preferences:GoZ menu in ZBrush. If that doesn’t help, then I have no clue why it may have stopped working. I suppose making sure you have administrative level access might be another thing to check (right click a shortcut and select Run as Administrator). This all presumes you’re using the Windows version of Max and ZBrush.

I’ve tried getting the GoZ working in maya 2012 without luck. It always starts new instance of the maya. I tried the the “eval(“source \“C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZBrushToMaya.mel\””);” mentioned in the manual setup but it just gives a syntax error. I tried the methods in the other thread aswell but they didnt work either. :confused:

first i would like to say Zbrush is one of the most amazing programs i have used.

I am having an issue with the GOZ function. I can click GOZ and have the mesh go from 3d Studio Max 9 straight into Zbrush 4. When i do it the other way around, click on GOZ in Zbrush it will open max… but nothing will load or show up… anyone have any clue why that is happening? Thansk so much for your help. Check that both ZBrush and Maya are not setup to run as an administrator. Most of the time, one is setup to run as the administrator (perhaps Maya).

3DSMax 9… or 2009? GoZ for 3DSMax doesn’t support 3DSMax 9. Please can you clarify?

I have this model that I had in Maya that bought over to ZB to pose and now
I want to export it back into Maya since I added some details and displacement to it.
The only though it doesn’t export of the subtools that it has in zbrush. Only a few. I hit
the “All” button and still the same result. I research on the web that was a solution for this
on the old zbrush forum[ vb3.test.zbrushcentral.com/archive/index.php/t-114776.html ] but I can’t seem to access that because it asks me for a logon and
password. Thank you in advance.

Take care that your models doesn’t have spaces or letters with accents like àé, etc.
“my_subtool1” is fine while “my subtôol” is not.

Also check that your SubTools have a unique name.

EDIT: I don’t really know what I did but I rearranged the subtools around and now different subtools are showing up. Not all but more than before.

Thanks for the quick reply. All my subtools have don’t have spaces in between them. I have at 115 subtools each name collectively. However, only subtool1, 98-115 (even though in zbrush
it tell me that it’s switching between subtools) are exported back
into Maya. The rest are not picked up.
