GoZ Installation and issues - Manual install

vanityassassin: can you give us a workflow or a step by step?

Hey GoZ works really great … but one question why do i loose my polygroups when I use GoZ ?? Ist there a way to held them polygroups or materialgroups , thanks a lot

1.Create my Base in max, Xform the meshs.
2.Goz to zbrush 4
Sometimes I get all the meshs, most of the time there is three or more missing.
Its some kinda Scaling issue I’m guessing. I mess with the scale in Import and export it seems to fix the Noise stretching, but I’m still having problems with meshes not importing.

Edit: when I goz a mesh into zbrush the mesh is much larger then the mesh inside max, max settings are defaulted. If I do a unify is brings it down but then all my meshes are on top of each other and if a size it down does the something as unify

After Downloading and following the manual install for GoZ update Zbrush 4 I got to the point where I have to tell Zbrush to update all paths and nothing happens when I press the button?

Any clues …

I guess that you did a wrong install for the files which have to be located in the public/pixologic folder

wow i am literally laughing about this. I came late on the GoZ scene and I am totally clueless about how i should install it for MAYA 2011 64 bit on my Windows7 64 bit machine. I downloaded Goz from http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/zplugins/ today ( 15 july 2011 , the plugin release is of June 14, 2011,a month old) and in the extracted folder i have two PDFs

  1. GoZ_Manual_Install
  2. GoZ_Upgrade_steps

Which one do I use? I have never installed GoZ before. Should i look for a previous version of GoZ first? Alright, anyways, so i use the GoZ_Manual_Install pdf but I cannot for the life of me find this userSetup.mel file anywhere. And i even don’t have this file: C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya\userSetup.mel , in that location .What do i do? Some suggestions and tips will be greatly and sweetly appreciated. I can sculpt and draw but I am useless when it comes to things such as this.

EDIT: go to http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=93841&page=14&pp=15 in this thread and follow the steps . no need for the userSetup.mel file.

Yup … I had overwritten the folder as opposed to replacing …

Thanks Totyo … second sense always makes sense . ?

I’m finding the link between max and zbrush works perfectly - but if I make the object in max first then import it via GoZ it seems to lock down the model - and move, scale etc don’t work (or at best barely move the vertices a few inches).

Anyone else had this?

I have never used Goz before and followed the instructions for maya and photoshop installation as follows.
Using the June 14 GoZ for Win

First I tried forced install but no applications came up as targets. My maya 2012 has never had Goz plugged into it.

Then I went to the manual install and did as follows:

• First, make sure that Maya is not running before continuing.

**Check

• Click Start > Computer and browse to the Documents folder that contains your Maya configuration files such as: C:
Users<YourUserName>\Documents. (The exact folder path may vary depending on your Windows version.) Locate any
“userSetup.mel” file that you may find in any “scripts” sub-folder. There is a “scripts” sub-folder directly at the root of “[My
Documents]\Maya”, but there is also one “scripts” sub-folder for every Maya version. For example, in sub-folders “2009”,
“2009-x64”, “2010”, …

**I found three folders. One under Program Files for 2012-it had a bunch of mels in it but not the usersetup.mel,
the other was under Users/administrator/mydocuments/maya/2012x64–it had a scripts folder-empty

a third one was the user/my documents/maya/scripts
also empty.

• In each “userSetup.mel” file found, open the file with Notepad.exe and inserts this line at the beginning: eval(“source \“C:/
Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZBrushToMaya.mel\””);
• If you did not find any “userSetup.mel”, then copy the file “C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya\userSetup.mel” into
the “scripts” sub-folder within the “[MyDocuments]\Maya” folder.

**
copied the userSetup.mel from the downloaded files-maya folder into the mydocuments/maya folder script

• Now launch Maya. At startup, it will automatically install the new GoZBrush shelf in Maya.

*there is no Goz button shelf in maya when I launch it
nor is a plugin for it listed in the preferences folder of maya

I followed the instructions for installing Goz into photoshop 5 extended
but there was no Goz menu under the file-automate tab either.

kgg777: please, open a ticket at the support center and include your operating system (with the text you put in your post above).

For no application coming as target, it’s perhaps because they are not located in the default location (Program files in Windows and Applications in Mac OSX)
Then, when you browse and Zbrush ask to install the files, does it request an administrator authorization? If not, please don’t run ZBrush as an administrator (same for Maya if possible).

But I think you may have miss installed some files…

*no it doesnt request authorization. Not sure what you mean y not running it as an administrator. I have other user options though-by name and also “default”
I will submit a ticket.

GoZ must ask you for permission to install the plugins.

Then check the ZBrush windows properties (right click on the ZBrush icon) and check in the security tab. ZBrush musn’t run as an administrator.

Ok I looked and it says
under zbrush properties

Everyone
SYSTEM
Administrators
Users

I notice the location for zbrush isnt program files
but program files x 86

It’s under the Compatibility tab, sorry.

ZBrush default location is in the Pprogram files (x86), which is ok.

where is the compatibility tab located?
It is running as administrator according to my computer designer

the question is how do i change that

It’s the second tab (sorry, I’m not running an english OS)

In the instructions it says to install as an administrator so I dunno.Going to wait to see if support contacts me. Dont really care as long as I can do stuff without Goz the old fashioned way.

I had major issues getting this to work with Maya 2011. Tried many things and suggestions, but it only seemed to make it more cluttered.
So I did a manuall install, kept the userSetup file with the added line:
eval(“source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZScript.mel””);

Note that I never modified the shelf file, everything else was left at default.

Then I switched to use GoZ with maya 2012 and everything works fine now. No new instances of Maya so now I’m just a happy camper.

Hello! i… am really sorry to be such a bother, but i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix a problem with GOZ and Maya 2012 (it’s the educational version) some time ago GOZ was working wonderful with maya, but recently i had to reinstall zbrush and it stopped working… sort of. When i hit the goz button in maya it exports an empty Ztool… but if i hit goz from zbrush it exports the worked mesh with only the polypaint and material, no normal map or displacement.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I don’t remember if i ever came back to report I fixed the problem i was having with the normal map seams showing in max 2012- it turns out it was the Gama correction they have enabled and ijust had to turn it off and everything is working fine now.

However i have a new problem
Ising GoZ and max 2012 and trying to export things from z brush to max and I would like to export all the subtools, but when i hit ALL or VISIBLE it only exports one single subtool - what could this be?
Any help is very appreciated
