GoZ and Maya 2011

I tried using GoZ in ZBrush 4 to connect to Maya 2011. It goes through everything fine, sets the path, does its install for Maya, but when Maya opens, there is no GoZ option. so when I tweak the mesh, I have no way of sending it back to zbrush. I get no errors during the GoZ-Maya installation, and I have tried it both as administrator and a regular user. When I run as an administrator I don’t get any prompt when GoZ installs its maya files, but when I run as a regular user, It prompts me for permissions to install. So I know it is doing something. Anyone have any ideas? I am using Vista 64 and Maya 2011 x64.

Well I went digging through the files in my Maya installation and I found a GoZscript.mel file in the Maya startup directory. Apparently it didn’t get executed. I sourced the script and ran it, which created the GoZ shelf and button. My GoZ now works between ZBrush and Maya. Not sure why it wouldn’t have run when I installed, and it worries me that I might still be missing something.

I’m having a lot of problem with GoZ on OSX.

I have multiple version of Maya on a computer.
First GoZ used the path to Maya 7.0 which doesn’t run after OSX 10.5 anymore.
GoZ wouldn’t let go of the path. I compress 7 into a zip and now it sees Autodesk 2008 and 2009.

2009 would be OK but I am up to 10 and 11. It doesn’t launch into 9 but worst is that GoZ scripts for that did work are now not functioning.

When I go into the preference to change paths it wants to save a modo file.
I don’t have Modo.

Then when I select Maya it keep telling me I need permission. After I load in Permission for the app “packet” (?) it then give me an error.

I’m stuck.

try adding the following to your userSetup.mel in your doucument maya script folder. eg. C:\Users\you\Documents\maya\2010-x64\scripts

eval(“source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZScript.mel””);

Ya goz is not working for me either. I get this error on mac os when using goz with maya.

// Warning: line 214: fopen: unable to open file “/Users/Shared/Pixologic/GoZBrush/ZBrushPath.txt” for mode “r”. // "

I have tried deleting Pixologic folder from Users\shared still does not work and now goz is gone again. I cant reinstall it through preferences in zbrush. I dont really feel like reinstalling the app again and clicing request new code 10 times to recive the activation code again.

Any other suggestion?

EDIT: Going to try the source thing though when i get home.

I get the same error here too Insect…

// Warning: line 214: fopen: unable to open file “/Users/Shared/Pixologic/GoZBrush/ZBrushPath.txt” for mode “r”.

No time to figure out a solution though…

Thanks but I still couldn’t get it. It exports to and .ma but doesn’t import into Maya.

I’m on a OSX, I did look up the UserSetup and assign the path but I may still have something wrong. I don’t think the UserSetup.mel is in the right directly.

Guys here is the code that is causing the issue…

$fileId=`fopen "/Users/Shared/Pixologic/GoZBrush/ZBrushPath.txt" "r"`;

Anyone good with Mel dont know the mel variables yet :slight_smile:

I have modo sp4 and zbrush 4 on my macbookpro, but goZ is not working in any way. Just send me this error message in modo:

“No items selected”

And in zBrush 4:

Unable to Open file
!:/Users/Shared/Pixologic/GozProyects/Default/Sphere

Error encountered while importing a file

Any solutions?

For Windows:

I decided to move the mel script file to my scripts folder, as so:

FROM: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2011\scripts\startup

TO: C:\Users_yourname_\Documents\maya\2011-x64\scripts

I then edited my usersetup.mel file with the following (see above post by ninjatastic):

eval(“source “C:/Users/myname/Documents/maya/2011-x64/scripts/GoZScript.mel””);

I reduced the above to the following:

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
/// Start: ZBrush GoZ ///
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

source “GoZScript.mel”;

That gives you the GoZBrush shelf with GoZ icon.

The shelf button is not really a issue i get i through goz install but once you use goz to zbrush thats where the issue is. How does the mel code look like in Windows ? Or does anyone have the mel script from 3.2? I think you can reuse it just by changing the paths…

All my files from 3.2 disappeared so fast when z4 came :slight_smile:

For me to get goz working in maya, I had to create this mel on a different or new shelf, other than the goz=
“”""""""""
string $command = “source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZbrushFromMaya.mel” ;” ;
eval $command ;

You could also try just sourcing GoZbrushFromMaya.mel in your script editor as a test to see if this shelf will work.

Goodluck

Thanks Rasamaya! That seems to have done the trick. :+1:
As I’m on OSX I had to modify the path to the MEL script slightly.

string $command = "source \"/Users/Shared/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZBrushFromMaya.mel\" ;" ;
eval $command ;

Good work!

I have the shelf with the GoZ button. I select an object in Maya 2011, press the GoZ button. ZBrush opens, and then…(drum roll)…

nothing.

Hmmm…

Am I supposed to see something in ZB at this point? I tried to draw the Ztool (since it starts you in Draw mode, but nothing. In the SubTools menu, a PolyMesh 3D shows up, but has no visible icon.

All help appreciated.

@ Lone D. No problem, just happy it works :slight_smile:

@MontanaMan
hmmm.
sounds like things are actually working.

Start with a model in zbrush.
Then go to maya, then come back. all should be good.

Rasa

just read this… may help you too.

When creating new 3D objects in the 3D software, the imported object can be cre- ated as a new Tool, or as a SubTool of the active Tool. This behavior is determined by the “Import as SubTool” preference, located in Preferences >> GoZ.

For some reasons my posts concerning GoZ and Maya 2011 disappear
each time. Let me try it again:

ech time I hit the GoZ buttom a NEW Maya windows opens and shows me
the newly edited subtool. All the other Maya windows remain unchanged.
Of course, I want to have ONE Maya instance cooperating with ZBrush 4.

Any idea how I can suppress the new Maya instances and urge GoZ
to display the changes in the already opened Maya window ???

same exact problem. I force reinstall, and even went through different Maya versions and it doens’t work. Even more interesting, GoZ doesn’t launch Max at all. But I can open max and then press GoZ in Max. Same thing as maya, import in an empty mesh. It’s very strange.

Exact same problem.

When I try to update the paths it give me errors when my system request my user password. Then goes on about permission even when i try to unlock the Application folder.

When I do reinstall it’s trying to save some Modo file for the path.

I did reinstall ZB4 which I had to get a new activation code and GoZ did launch Maya 2008. It won’t let me change to 2009. I am going to compress 2008 and install again because it doesn’t do anything with 2009.

Maybe the whole problem has to do with goZ on OSX having permissions.

When I try to install a path I get an error about the osascript can’t install without permissions.
