GoZ and Maya 2011

I had the exact same problem, until I did the step in my last post and the post before.
Goodluck.

Has anyone know how to get at the material setup for GoZMaya?
I want to make it create a vray material vs MR.

Thanks

Your mel script are for people who doesn’t get the goz button in maya. But I have tested that and it still export empty mesh to zbrush. Nothing is changed, it’s still broken.

Ok.
Open zbrush. Go to preferences, clear cache files.
Follow instructions. Close Zbrush down.

Now in maya create a polycube.
SELECT the poly cube. And press my shelf button.

Zbrush should open.
Now draw your poly cube in the scene and then go into edit mode.

Note: I have had troubles with geometry with history and non quads.

I tested those steps, so if you had the same problem as me, its a fix.
If its another problem, such as you changing directories trying other peoples fixes… I cant help you. Sorry.
Goodluck.

I’m sorry, still nothing, and I did follow your steps exactly. but thank you so much for replying.

After trying everything posted, I finally got ZB4 GoZ to work with Maya 2011.

Simple fix: I had to reboot my machine, clear cache and start anew with a fresh ZTool, first launching GoZ within Zbrush. Now it seems to work in both directions.

Hope this helps someone else out.

Cheers.

Yesterday happens the same to me, so I choose install GoZ in Maya2010, in place of 2011, in 2010 the icon and the shelf appears to me.

Then simply, in Maya 2010 drag & drom with the middle mouse button from the shelf to script editor to see the Mel code. Copy it and paste in the 2011 scripts editor (in a Mel tab), finally simply select the code and with Middle mouse button, drag and drop from script editor to a shelf. The icon, simply editing the shelf and telling it where to find it just seeing the 2010 path.

The script and paths?. Well, right now I’m on linux, I’ll change to windows and paste it in the forum, so gimme a minute.

**mel code:

source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZBrushFromMaya.mel”

**icon in the shelf (Windows):

C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZBrushDark.xpm

It finally worked for me as well. I reinstalled zbrush 4(i removed all zbrush 4 files first, and the old goz shelf from maya) then just installed goz. Afterwards i just sourced the script.

i typed source GoZScript; GoZScript on command field and it worked.

I also have this problem, has anyone been able to solve it for Max? I installed GoZ for different Max versions but the result was the same. The GoZ bar also appears inside Max, but when I create an EditablePoly and press GoZ the Zbrush tool is empty. Inside Zbrush when I press the GoZ tool it processes some information and “optimizing mesh” appears for a few seconds, then nothing happens, it doesn’t launch Max.

I have this exact same problem. No idea why. It works with 3ds Max, and Cinema 4D just fine.

Any clues anybody?

From maya to ZB it’s ok. But ZB to Maya opens a new instance of Maya, any fix round there ?

This fixed it for me with Maya 2009 64 bit on Windows. Thanks!

Hey,
Thanks man! It worked like a charm…I lost 1 hour trying everything but your way of fixing it was the only one that worked for me.

Here is a diffrent way if you get stuck on the other solutions. I found this one lot easier than the others.

No need for changing files in teh drive.

  1. Delete the Pxiologic folder found in Mac HD/Shared/Pixologic.
  2. Right click on maya.app and click on show package files. Find the old goz mel script(if you had 3.5 earlier). I think the name was GozfromMaya.mll or something.
  3. Reinstall Zbrush 4 from the begining so everything is restored to factory settings.
  4. Use the find app thing and force reinstall on goz to maya 2011.
  5. Once you are inside maya the goz shelf will probaly not appear. Because the script from zbrush never seems to install goz completly. It seems to always forget one simple code to make it work.
  6. Once inside maya you type in source GoZScript; GoZScript
  7. (You only need to do this once ;))
  8. You should recive a message that says Goz is now fully installed and shelf should appear and it should now work as suposed back and forth.

I had this issue, after I installed Zbrush 4 and GoZ button ( was with correct path to Maya) everything worked fine for a while.

All of a sudden (have no idea why) The Goz Button in Maya disappear and all i got was an empty shelf. NO GoZ button?!

After reading and trying to resolve mel scripts and all… which didn’t work, after couple of restarts and frustrations, I decided to DELETE the GOZBRUSH shelf (which was empty anyway).
Next time i loaded Zbrush and clicked on GoZ button from Zbrush - it installed (automatically) the new GOZBRUSH shelf AGAIN in Maya with loaded GoZ button and icon

Zbrush 4 installs all paths and working files for Windows 7 in C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/…
So the EDIT COMMANDS line in Maya Shelf editor has to point to:
source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZBrushFromMaya.mel”
I hope that helps anyone with a similar problem.

Maya to Zbrush, it`s Ok
ZBrush to Maya: when i click GoZ in tool, launch new maya
There is an idea to fix this problem?

GO Z Does not work for 3Dsmax ?
i have max and maya both installed.Go Z takes me everytime to maya.
How do i enable max ??

Dear, Jfitt or ninjatastic or anybodyelse, can someone detail the process above a little more clear.
what shoud I do, open the userSetup.mel script with notepad for example and add the line code: eval(“source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZScript.mel””);

or I have to pick the GoZScript.mel file and copy it to where userSetup.mel is located?

What is eval, this should be copied too. sorry guys I am new on this stuff and suffering a lot with this problem. Thanks for attention.

ahamarchi : do an update path to 3DSMax in ZBrush >> GoZ preferences and choose the good application

dwanket : you don’t have the GoZ Shelf or did you move the GoZ icon from the GoZ shelf somewhere? If you have an empty shelf, delete it, quit maya, do a force reinstall of maya in ZBrush GoZ preferences and don’t forget to accept the warning for file permissions.

You have to know that 99.999% of the GoZ problems are coming for an installation problem and almost all the times, a problem with files permissions. An exception in maya is sometime you have a startup script which can be in different places or which include startup items which are missing and maya may interrupt the loading process of this file.
