fun with zbrush

Very nice portrait.

The skinsurface is still not quite there, though… looking to me somehow “hard/stiff” (maybe like wood or cardboard) .
But I guess you are aware of that, maybe needs SSS for more photorealistic surface?

I follow your guys interesting xperiments on blenderartist as well.

thanks jake, yes sss would be nice, that is still not implementet in cycles, and i tried my best to substitute. but as you say, its not quite there. thanks for the feedback

i could not leave the skin like it was, and some errors, so here he is again, much improved i think, and doing the zbrush model more justice…

Much better now.
A not so naturalistic, as most might believe, portrait.
For some persona reason, it reminds me Otto Dix’s early portraits.
If you’re in trouble with fixing UV maps, use UV master (density painting control). You can ask to keep seams from previous unwrapping if you like. I use painting control a lot. Some experience from lot of unwrapping in the past, helps me to guess where stretching usually happens.

That’s really good! IMO though, the lips could stand to have a bit more of a redish hue.

michalis, yes, i believe its the pose and expression which reminds of dix…and, the not so naturalistic, maybe its because the skin texture is hand painted (and not using spotlight foto cloning or such), glad you noticed it

zber2, thanks ! yes maybe a tad more red would have been good

Nice one. :+1:
Do you have a dog?

lol…no, i have not, but do love them

portrait is made in collaboration with zbrush and blender

Powerful portrait.
I like to see some side views.
This forehead is very interesting. Well done.

thanks michalis, glad you see  … here is one sideview…hope you are not disappointed as it reveals much more the sketchy character of the piece…

a model started in blender, then imported to zbrush, for finer details. uv, and textures done in zbrush, rendered in cycles, some postwork in photoshop… not my usual topic, but i had so much fun with it,and i hope you like him too
