Once more with Bag End.

Hi Gary

Wow…Luv the way that armor is coming out on the Theoden character…Excellent color combination…:+1:…His face color is a little to much on the pink side though…a rendering or something problem I think I read that you were having…Maybe try putting him in the ZBRUSH Spotlight feature, and paste some skin color onto his face using a photo with nice skin color…Just a thought that crossed my mind…
That wisp of smoke coming from the chimney in your hobbit house piece …really brings that piece to life, by creating a subtle sense of motion…It’s a nice contrast and compiment to the stillness of a cold foggy and dew laden morning…Outstanding…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Hi Gary, man, so sorry I have not came over to your thread in so long. Just, I feel a little lost lately (after working for nearly 4 yrs at night, then, what seems suddenly, working morings)… I feel ‘thrown off’- Anywho, I really like all the love your giving your craft. You just keep on making one tool after the other. How fantastic for you. I too dig the armour (much better than just the clothing). I like the colour of the GOLD on the trim (ya, I know, I am strange like that-:D). One thing though, don’t know if it’s me, but, around the edges of the eyes, the ‘skin’ does not look to be right up against the eyes. You may want to check that out (unless it’s just the angle that were viewing??) You have really gotten better with the hair as well. Best.

Thanks Glenn! I don’t know what’s going on with the pink faces. It’s happened a couple of times when I upload here even though the colors look fine on my local file. I’ll try to figure it out when I go back to Theoden in a day or two… I also put some lighting in the windows to give the illusion that there’s actually an interior to the house. The window panes have textures applied from Bag End interior photos taken from the movie set. You can’t really see it in the reletively low resolution you have to use when uploading but at least I know they’re there lol.

Dragon it’s great to have you back! I’ve still got a ton of work to do on Theoden, including getting his facial features down better.

Here’s what I’ve been experimenting with today. Wanted to see how far I could push water effects inside of Zbrush, and I’m kind of liking the results. This is just a bare-bones BPR with basic settings but the water is coming along well. I finally found a good use for the holes and tearing that occur when you dynamesh a plane3d!

More progress on Moby Dick.

I decided to give my old-school Joker a make-over to bring him into the 21st century. Still some work to do. Let me know what you think!

The Joker. Combining the old school design of the 70’s with the looks of Heath Ledger’s amazing performance in The Dark Knight. All in Zbrush.

Started on Two face tonight.

After some more tweaking I believe I’m nearing completion.

Ha, Two Face, I think it’s one of your best HEAD sculpts to date! Man, love how you have mastered making water in ZBrush. The ‘MD’(whale) image is great, just add some mood when your done and it will rock. Ya, still getting there, still trying to adjust-

Thanks Dragon! Man, I’m sorry I haven’t answered your last email. It got lost in the gmail shuffle and I just discovered it last night. I’ll write ya bck today.

Re. Two Face; I like it, but I’m not in love with it. I feel like it’s unfinished, but I can’t for the life of me think of what else to do with it. I like my Joker bust a lot better.

Re. the whale; Yeah that one is fun to work on and I’ll go and finish it when the mood strikes, but at the time I had one of those weird Zbrush crashes when I was just turning the model for a different view, and I didn’t have the heart to load it up again.

Here’s what I’m working on now. Based on a sketch by Jim Lee with inks by LiamSharp on deviantart . Still really rough, but I think I finally got a good pose without screwing up my mesh too much.

Starting the long (looooonnnnng) tedious process of adding rain drops and splash effects. Still a ton to do.

Hey Gary, no prob on writting me (not like I have been doing so great in that department myself-;)) I dig that your doing a BATMAN. Man, what a complex scene to do… but, looking cool so far. And since you have that water thingy thing down, should be no prob for you. You know, I opened Jims image along side yours and just noted some differences that might help in the final image:

  1. The head Jim drew on Batman seems to be FLATTER and WIDER compared to your Batman Head.
  2. Your Batman body seems like it needs to be twisted a little more (to face us more).
  3. Your Batman body looks to need a little more ‘thickness’.
  4. Don’t know if it’s just the view, but the left forearm looks ‘long’ (the one we can see).
  5. Make your Batman’s legs ‘thicker’.
  6. Bring his right leg ‘in’ (the knee needs to be facing us more).
  7. Watch his left foot, make it more ‘dynamic’ like Jim has it i.e. bring up toward the shin.

I really like that left hand as well. Now, if your NOT looking to copy Jims piece exactly, then disregard everything I just wrote.

Other than this, waiting to see the final.

Jeez, Dragon! you don’t have to come down so hard on my work! I’m trying my best! Actually almost everything you listed in your post was due to me having “super-strength” perspective turned on. I toned it down quite a bit as you’ll see below and it already looks a ton better. I also changed up the lighting just a touch, used some filters to darken the background and sharpen the model, added the undetailed utility belt, painted the insignia on his chest so you can actually see it, and lastly did some much needed color changes on the whole uniform. I’m definitely not doing a detail for detail copy of Jim’s work hehe. Still working on the rain.

Final render in Zbrush with post in PS.

You are putting out so much great work, that batman will be fantastic when you are finished!
Just keep it going like that, really amazing seeing your works everyday a new sculpt:+1:
Cheers,

  • Kenny _:slight_smile:

Thanks, Gary! Very glad you like it. Looking at it with fresh eyes today I’m probably going to ramp up the lighting some. Seems a little dull atm.

Thank you Kenny. Though I consider it a compliment beyond measure, I’m not Glenn lol. But I am really glad you like The Bat!

All the best, Gary
