I think having the option of making hair in ZBrush is great! I wouldn’t expect it to compete with C4D’s hair anymore than i would expect any sculpting tools Maxon could add to Cinema to compete with ZBrush’s… Options are always good, and i can’t see the hair pixologic came up with not being at least somewhat useful for the vast majority of ZBrush users  …And as a Cinema user, i can tell you updates like this would be faaaaaaaaarrrrr from free :stuck_out_tongue:

What a C4D discussion. It’s a great program but try to compare Maxon’s MiddleAged sculptingtools with those of ZB. Try to retopo there. It seems people like to compare an apple with a banana. They taste different I think. Let’s enjoy the new hairtool and other bugfixes.

Is there any special place on that forum for praying for features and fixes? A wishlist or something?

As of this new hair I am afraid they will be just a toy mostly. Normal map would be a mess from them and for a decent color texture they looks too artificial either without full scale renderer. They should show us not what it is in zbrush window but rather how it looks baked onto a game model or something. Nobody pay me for a cute pictures from z-brush.

I have a challenge for all of you name me one program that worked for everyone right off the bat, and I mean everyone (no pages on their web site for trouble shooting questions and answers or anyone reporting one single problem).

I have tried so many in demos and paying for them, when I had the $ for it, and haven’t come across one, not one bit of software (graphic art software or not) that not only had a few bugs but they weren’t fixed until you paid for another updated version and even then either new problems surfaced or some were not fixed at all, this also includes many free software programs too.

Why does so many think that Pixo has to be perfect or ZB for that matter. New features will most of the time have some kind of problems/bugs because everyone has different systems or do things differently than others and those problems may not show up till it is released, and this goes for all software programs from all companies. Though it may look real great on Pixo’s computers because they are geared just for working on and with ZB there are bound to be problems when released to the world.

Not saying that I don’t think ZB has some issues to work out, some major yes, and hoping that they get some of them taken care of in this update but how selfish am I to sit and say well it not only can not have any problems/bugs but has to have all the features in it that all others do already.

LOL sorry but many things spontaneously combusts, breaks don’t work or breaks apart, killer airbags, or compromises your computer or shuts it down completely just to name a few. Sometimes we pay more to fix it, we are out of a car or product until they fix it, or in lawsuits for years lol.

At least ZB takes responsibility and tries to fix the problems at hand and they have fixed many things but not many are thinking about that and it is sad.

Glad some of you got the money to pay for program fixes/updates, I don’t and not many do, and if Pixo did that well then they would be just like every other company out there. I am hoping that instead of that happening other companies will take note and try to do right by their users and at least fix stuff for free. Maybe one day Pixo can change the way software companies handle their users and the problems/bugs with their software.

The new features added for free is icing on the cake and this new hair tool well 1. looks better than most I have tried out (specially right off the bat) and renders really nicely so it seems in the preview movie and that movie is low quality lol I think it may even look better when we get it 2. well we all asked for hair capabilities and they are giving it to us plain and simple. It may take a couple+ updates to have everything not only working right but also everything we can want it to do as we and pixo learns. Who knows they may come up with another earth shattering way of doing hair that no one else has done before. I wouldn’t put it past them lol they seem to create new and better ways to do things than most software companies do.

As far as this forum thread on here this really isn’t about bugs, problems or things of that nature but nice presents that they are adding onto the next ZB patch/update and the preview movie it’s self.

You all know that there are forum threads to report/discuss bugs and ask questions about the next ZB right? Pixo probably pays more attention to those posting there than on a preview for a new tool thread just saying.

Try and give Pixo a break, enjoy the preview movie and try to be humble not only to each other but when things go wrong well report it and move on ok better things to do in life than get upset about things like bugs in software.

Can’t wait for the next preview of whatever new goodie they are adding in.

Rasta, I don´t think you are a minority. We all want to get rid of bugs or get some old features back or developed some others… You are right in many things if not everything you said. But I bothered to read the whole thread and I think Gasoil made some good points too… If I had to choose between new features and a more consistent program with no bugs I would choose the bugs+features model but i totally understad the ones who would be more “conservative” and want less tools but all of them usable…

" Nobody pay me for a cute pictures from z-brush."

Really? Seriously? Most of my income is generated using the full spectrum of design work. “Cute pictures” is often my foot in the door. “Cute pictures” are the jumping off point to the final concept and tooling models. “cute pictures” are where the pipeline begins and what we get handed to be a midwife, at best, to someone else’s vision. If a particular design process doesn’t happen to fall in line with how you make your rent, maybe you should try spending a little more time broadening your horizons. dig a little deeper into what Zbrush can do for you. More doors may open to you. We all should, and that is one of the things that make this forum so great.

People don’t just post their work here to get flamed or praised, they also come here to learn. The generosity of the members here is great and supportive. I learn something new every day here. I can’t wait to try out this new hair system, and I am counting on our fellow members to share what they discover about it, both good and not so good. i think it is a bit early to so easily dismiss this with out even having used it yet. Will you be able to use the results in another app? Who knows? It hasn’t been released yet. And if the results can go no further than Zbrush? No one has lost anything. They have gained another tool that might be considered a toy from a production standpoint, but hopefully a productive toy from a design standpoint. The whole process of visualizing anything begins with cute pictures, mate. Always have and always will. At least with Zbrush, you have more visual information than the sketch on a bar napkin I have been handed my entire career, and from really prominent production designers. I will take a cute Zbrush picture any day.

Peace out

delicious
that’s what we love about ZB it so freakin’ inspiring

I understand your point. Ironically when I offered to buy Zbrush back in 2000 I heard similar “looks like a weird toy” from a company senior person. So perhaps you are right and this will be a great addition .
As for “cute pictures” perhaps it depends on a genre and a specific production pipeline but in my experience all that “design” things are not that important. Whatever great design it could be if it doesn’t look good and real in a game engine it goes straight nowhere. Nobody are impressed now by zbrush or whatever renders till it seen real in a game prototype. Nobody who pay for that. And games are getting more and more complicated every year, with a huge environments and a huge amount of texturing work, realistic texturing. We are now in a position when game engines are very developed already and things rest on quality and amount of art rather than technical stuff. Zbrush imo just doesn’t cover all those very actual needs, especially in regards of texturing. To be honest no other program either.

I can’t see my work done without Zbrush. I just wish they would focus more on solving their shortages Just feel a bit tired after years of all those countless workarounds.

Kirkl,

I get what you are saying. There doesn’t seem to be a “killer” app out there anywhere. It all depends on who is signing your paycheck. I use a lot of different software, dabble in a few more, and they ALL have their problems and work arounds. I have to admit that I failed too heed my own advice from my first post on this thread. The whole cute pictures thing got under my skin.

We all keep hoping that the next new thing will be THE new thing, and there are disappointments all along the way. I guess it is like dating. The first date is so full of promise, but by the end of the evening there is often something that makes it a last date as well. Just keep kissin’ those frogs I guess! One day there will be an app that you plug into your head and the finished work appears on the screen, modeled to perfection, textured, rigged and dancing across the screen. Until then, I guess we have to muddle through.

Happy new year to you

I think Pixolater should show us the NoiseMaker video so you guys have something else to argue about. He he

I most heartily agree. Not to argue, but be forced to scrape our chins off the floor. AND WE WERE NOT ARGUING!!!

excited , how it will be with GoZ , and transporting hairs to other applications like maya or modo ?

Nobody are impressed now by zbrush or whatever renders till it seen real in a game prototype.

It’s a great tool to make concept designs. The way the program is working now I can make certain designs faster than I would with more classic methods and with more freedom than pen and paper or even photoshop would allow.

Hey guys…as respectfully as i can be… lets all just sit back and be amazed, confused, disappointed after the release.

An amazing TOOL !!! THANK you Pixologic :+1:
I was wondering if it’s exportable in splines or not ?

When ZBrush was first released, certain people found a way of using it to make jaw dropping work then without all the amazing add-ons it has today. They didn’t complain about what it didn’t have. They just got on with it and made good art.

It appears to me that a lot of the people whining on here won’t be happy till Zbrush has a “Make Awesome Art” button.

Zbrush is a killer program. Pixologic is an amazing company. Stop whining, see the possibilities and make good art.

Nobody are impressed now by zbrush or whatever renders till it seen real in a game prototype.

So, “real” means… game engines?
The universe is bigger than the game industry. The world is bigger, the civilization is bigger, museums are bigger. The history of art is bigger. Most importantly, the future is bigger. Bigger than our lives and our jobs.

I agree. In fact, I would go further. Add a “Make a huge red dragon attacking a town with archers firing arrows and an armored hero standing in the middle to meet his fate” button! Or better yet, a text entry box where you type what you want and it instantly appears, in full glorious detail on your screen!!! They should make it so that the more descriptive you are, the more detail shows up.

oh wait… it’s already been done… THEY DID IT! THEY FINALLY DID IT! DAMN YOU, GOOGLE!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELLLLLL!!!

omg !!awesomeness!! :sunglasses:
great work from pixologic.:+1:

Awesome as always! Thanks Pixologic. :+1:
