few notes about the precedent project (still wip)

subdivision1:1300polys

subdivision7: 5,5 millions polys

uv (UvMaster)

uv painted (“create new from polypaint”)

I used cavity mask to help me to paint & popup some details, (or inverse)
in conjonction with CTRL+H shortcut which hide the mask itself, you see directly the result of the painting.
Differents ‘effects’ & results if you blur the mask (or sharpen it), use other mask generation like ambiant occlusion

man this one looks awesome.great job on the skin details around the lips and eyes.& what I like the most is how you make him asymmetrical.keep it up.;)

Hi Diablo, thank you ^^
Here another face I’ ve just started. Details are not final details, color skin too (1st time trying this color)
I will maybe continue with the upper body at least.

subd5:1.5millions polys

great progress buddy.skin color looks amazing.can’t wait to see the finished one.keep it up.;)

your Mike Tyson head is so good I feel it would be a shame not to give him a full body.

love your work

thank you Diablo, I will do my best !
hi Cosmick, thank you for your kind words !
yes, definitivly I will do his body.

So I have continued the head, re topo it (zremesher) to have a better polyflow (& lower polycount on the subdivision 0,
wich permitted me to reach 3.5millions polys at the sixth subdivision).

Hi, just few renders of the face

test of fibermesh: hairs and eyebrows.

Next stages would be to create & test a young beard/mustache (he often had one), and I’ ll start his body.
I’ m continuing to collect maximum of photo references. At begining I was checking both young Mike and old/actual one,
but now I try to focus on his age when he was champion
ps: grey color’ s hairs was not desired.

Hi,
I have continued to try to refine the face.
3.jpg

I have also begun a body. For the moment it is just a base:

Made with dynamesh first, then zremeshed it and unwrapped it.

cool looking facial hair.keep it up buddy.;)

Thank you.

I am continuing this project, face part, body part, and clothes/accessorys part.

Like I was expecting, it is quite a difficult task the ‘likeness’ study, (of Mike Tyson in this case, even if I feel that I am still far from him), but I suppose, as a lot of other
things, it must take some time to evolve so I do not desespear. In all cases, it is a starting point in the likeness study.

Anyway, here are some bpr’ s (&1screen) of the lastest iteration of this character.

ps: face is in more advanced stage than body&clothes, as you can see.
edit:I think in this iteration, I have been away from likeness. This is why, I think I will get back to precedetent ones.

Hi,
little update from the previous previous iteration, its body and clothes.

ps: About likeness study and my personal experiment, I have constated one thing that can be problematic, especially in my case. It is about age or date of the photo was taken, meaning the age of the subject.
Mike had a long life so I fhave found lots a various different ages photos. In my opinion it can explain the last iteration. Anyway, my advice is when you collect photos ref., take care to organize them into folders ruled by the age of the person.

Anyway, this is why i wanted to make a sculpture of anything else to refresh my mind & my ‘inspiration’. it ends with male human bust, african type - it can be positiv for ‘Mike project’ to have some practice in this matter.
Here is the dude:

Begun with sphere (in previous session) & dynamesh. No ref, it was just a ‘free practice’ to unwid.

yeah that’s really nice when you make something in middle of a project.I do that too & sometimes it gives me great brainstorms.;) about the mike you’re doing good but I suggest you work a bit more on his legs.right now they’re a bit thin.and the line between his pecks, make that visible too.sorry I’m not an anatomy expert myself.;)

Hmmm yes,
I see what you are talking about. I don’ t know if I am in the middle of the “Mike project” (I’ m not so optimist), but yes,
personaly I do not focus on one unique activity/exercice/project/etc.

Never. Why ?

In my personal opinion, it is a waste of time in the sens that you can do lot more !

like when you were/are/would be at school:
learning, practicing, working in ‘parallel’ instead of working/learning/practicing in ‘serie’ !

Why constrain ourself into one unique project, and begin another only when you ‘finish’ the first ? I prefer to organize my day/week time to be able to practice few projects the same day, same week, etc…
For instance, the morning you work on one project, the afternoon on another. Or more believable, few hours for this project, and few hours for another, and few hours for a tutorial, for documentaion, for inspiration, etc, etc… & you do that all the week, etc…

Like when I/you/we were at school !
So why would we constrain ourself to one unique ‘project’ until we’ d calissifye it as “finished” ? (it is like a grave, a death, instead of giving it a potential continuation, evolution, etc)

And yes, like you say, & in my opinion; one of the main benefit is that you refresh your mind, your inspiration, etc…while in the ‘one unique project strategy’ you are struggling with the same project until you hate it !! (it is an ‘image’ but yep, I think it can happened, especially when you are begginner)
In general I quite never classify a project as ’ finished '. I have quite all my first projects archived ready to be ‘optimized’, continued, etc…(or at least to see the evolution in my learning experiment, but yeah, it has a realtiv (minim) material cost).

about the mike you’re doing good but I suggest you work a bit more on his legs.right now they’re a bit thin.and the line between his pecks, make that visible too.sorry I’m not an anatomy expert myself

Thank you, I hope so.
Thanks for the anatomy advices. What area of the leg please ? or maybe all the leg ?
Like I said in my previous reply, I have not really worked a lot on the body (more the face), so for now it is just the base. At least I have begun the upper body proportions, but nothing more.

I’ m sur I will confirm (or not) your advices in comparaison with the reference.

Thank you again Diablo for your support.

Hi, updates of the body proportions, reworking for glove,
and the face is still not like I want but yeah, here i am:

apologies for fingers, maybe I’ ll finish them.

now it’s a lot better.nice job on the glove.;)

thank you.
ps: about the “legs”, you were wrong, they were too large, and not too thin.
Especially about the lower part of the legs (under knee).
I think Mike has leggs (very) thin compared to his torso, and compared to other heavyweight boxer.
Plus, I can say that all the body was not correct proportion compared to head size when you kindly gave me your advices.
Anyway, thank you, for the glove too.
