may be that method can help you …

may be that method can help you …

Take a look at Southern’s Cloth Tutorial to see how this can be done in ZBrush.
Both the curtain and the wall that you show in your example can be done using this technique. It’s amazing what a little masking can do.
yes Aurick, I saw that yet, but I think this method by extrusion with make 3d is more simple and quick.
Hi Fouad B,
Thank you for your helpful post! I know this may seem ultra simplistic, but the technique is actually so easy its power is deceptively hidden.
You have already inspired my imagination and helped me to realize new methods I could have used while designing the last image I posted here. ( Halloween Invader )
Thank you!
Very nice drape! I guess I am very dense… I still can’t see how you went from a squiggly line to the drape… sighs I have so long a way to go to catch up! LOL
where the heck is the extrude tool??? I’ve only had this program a week. That’s a great technique faoud…Very much like a standard 3d program methodology…I’m going to try it on zspheres, just need the extrude tool!!!
David
oops already figured it out…sort of. Some interesting possibilites by working in a vector drawing program and importing…
There are no tools of extrudes. that means in fact that to extrude I use a same technic with tools ALPHA the function make 3d. trace a profile in white on black bottom import it in Alpha and set blur at O and mesh resolution at 256 then click “MAKE 3d”. Then you import will obtain a tool with the form of the profile. resize, and twist it in the desired directions.
(translation by google… if it is not perfect… heellpp me Pilou!!!
)

it’s an original technique and very easy to use.
It’s perfectly understandible , but if you really want a translation. (My english isnt very good either :p)
There is no real tool that extrudes , it’s more of a technique. The forms are made using the Make 3D alpha function. Trace a profile in white-black , import it as an alpha and set blur to 0 and mesh resolution to 256. Click on Make 3D. A tool will be created which you can resize , twist deform in the desired directions.
thx Namek !!

Thanks Fouad! This is truly a power tip!! I don’t know why I never thought of doing this but it makes excellent clothing and such too! This is a 3 Minute cloak I whipped up. Lots of possibilities here!!

wow , looks great mentat.
I havent reall used the make 3d yet , maybe it’s time I check it out
I was feeling rather dense. I have looked at this a couple times and for some reason couldn’t grasp it… then a light went off… damn I’m slow. Has to be an age thing.
Like Mentat I’m thinking, “why didn’t I think of that?” ~L~
hehe yeah , I tried it once a while ago , but I kept getting weird results , now I know my resolution was set too low
Hello Fouad
This function is only in the 1.5 ?
Make translation with Google id a good trick
Pilou
Salut Pilou
euhh… I think yes… I forgot.
watch you Alpha Palette in options look If you see “Make 3D” then that’s right.
Cette option se trouve sous la palette ALPHA
tu as cette possibilité, mais j’avoue ne plus me souvenir si elle y etait deja. Je crois que oui.
Here is a quick and dirty script which demonstrate how to.

Well I am totally frustrated with this. I read over the instructions several times and did exactly what was said there. I downloaded the script, and it didn’t work, all I got was a triangle with a question mark in it where the play button should have been.
Anyways I can make the tool OK but there is no way I can do anything with it. Try to resize and I end up with a whole lot of long points. Here is a shot of the original line and then the 3D tool.

I have been using Southern’s way for all kinds of things including clothing, but I can’t get this method at all. What am I missing???
hi Northstarr !!
your line must be black and white for best result and must be flat.
if you make it with deph… elevation make a grey fade.
when you trace your curve dont set “Zadd” and set rgb only (or flat material…)
ni make 3d option remember to set “mesh resolution” to 256 and “blur” to 0
I’m sorry for ZScript it work in my computer… I don’t know what happened.
may be some master of ZScript will see that.
and may be … one of these masters can work on module which do extusion with some parameters… like… euhh … extrusion with path or with profile !!!
… or may Be I dreaming !!
Thank you sooo much for the script!! Only problem I ran into was the name of the psd needs to be changed from cape_Alpha to cape.psd, then it runs perfect!
Thanks again for this great tip and script!
here is a tool for that go Here http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=008736
