You`re a great teacher indeed! And a great artist! Wondeful work!

Hi Etcher! now you do too mnay updates
i can’t follow you!! I’ve so much work for my company and it’s me who doesn’t find time for ZB any more
I like your work a lot as you know! but as i was watching your last illustration i couldn’t help myself thinking that you can find a much more interesting composition…

I hope you won’t mind but i’ve drawn some dynamics line to show you that, for now, your image is too equal, too symetric. If you take care of your main composition lines, you’ll see that your diagonals, horizontals are equally splitted. So even if we can clearly see the battle between the 2 characters, there’s no real tension between them.
you can also see that your skyline is practically in the middle and all main lines of composition cross in the middle of symmetrical way.
I think that you should keep the dynamic composition line because that’s you want to show. But you should take down your skyline. Because of this, your decor will be a little lower. His dynamic would therefore be more symmetrical. It will also avoid having the top of the castle, the moon and the head of your villain lined up. It would give again all its force to your demon.
In purple you can see that these elements lined up are also symetrical to the hands of your boy, which are an important element of your composition. By changing the background everything will be fixed.
Finally, if you look carefully, if you except the wings of your creature, your 2 characters have the same size. You should take the choice to make your creature bigger than the kid. By modifying that you’ll have the possiblity to change the position of the creature’s hand with the fire effect which is in the middle of your composition.

In conclusion, for me, if you fix, the skyline, the background and the size of your demon everything will be awesome. PLUS, i think that you should put your camera from below so that you’re composition will be more impressive.

I don’t know if i’m clear (sorry for my bad english…again…) if not, it will be a pleasure to make a quick sketch for you.
But i think that the picture will be clear enough for you.

Again hope you won’t mind this intrusion in your work.
your friend YONA

Eof3D: thanks for the great comment and for dropping me a line Eugene! :+1: !

TeckZ: Well thank u very much, I’ll try!

Disco Stu: Thank you, Stu! :+1: !

Calum5ZB: hey cal! Many thanks for the awesome comment man, means a lot coming from you :+1: ! Glad my posts can be of some use. Here’s some more.
Moni-Poroni: Thank you! You shouldn’t have pushed me!!! :stuck_out_tongue:  :+1: !

Yona: Hah, I think I know what you mean: when my dad first saw this sketch, he stared at it for a few minutes and said:”you made chaos…, you made organized chaos…”. But, no worries Cédric! This off-beat composition was an intentional experiment Wanted to make a symmetrical line composition and an asymmetrical light- and dark composition. Camera position is purposely placed to make the scene static and to work with next to no perspective (foreground-mid-back placed behind each other like flat sheets). Storywise: Axl is not fighting the Tenebrae in this scene, he’s accidently stumbling upon him-Tenebrae minding it’s own (gruesome) business. The linig-up of the tower-moon-creature head had to do with lettering/titles of some sort that needed to be added (will post that image later-it has the moon in a different position). But, I will not take this painting further than this, the final image will be done with the sculpted and posed characters. Hope you’ll have another look when the whole thing goes to 3d! I will invite you to my virtual set, so we can have some more composition fun! Many thanks for taking the time to comment (in depth comment) and to make the diagram! Cédric, hope you’ll soon have time to continue TTM! :+1: !

Wow…so impressive…and loads of learning material! Thank you for sharing!

Etcher,

Man your stuff is out of this world.
Thanks for the really cool tips and methods that are quite simply fun to see in action.

I hate asking this, but could you breakdown the method of the masking.
Like, I got a psd image and then?

If you could provide a slower youtube demo or just break it down in some steps. It would help me out a great deal. I have so many things I want to express using paintstop it makes the brain hurt.
Got the bug real bad.

wow etcher bloody awesome man - thx for tips

Etcher,

Please disreguard last post concerning masking. Look in your eariler post and got the answer.

Sorry about that one.
Forgot how to read again.

Girls, Guys, many thanks for commenting! HUUUUGE MOTIVATOR!!!

But, this week is a bad, bad week for me: I was so proud to have succeeded in editing a video, getting it on YouTube and embedding it in this thread… and whilst working on the second vid, my editing software stopped functioning (bought it for win 2000 ages ago and Vista doesn’t like it anymore) So, gotta’ start saving to buy the latest version… Meanwhile started learning Quicktime Pro to help me out in the meantime… . PLUS some urgent family matters to take care of this week… next to no time for ZBrush… .

Yona: Cédric, those in depth comments are a great help and guide for me: they help me in getting around “the downside of working alone”! More! Please  :+1: !
