I love the molten, hot feel of power showing in this snippet. Very realistic…
Thanks
Mentat7: Features of the new versions have played a significant role in this image. Better rendering with GI-shadows and a spray (scatter) stroke-type have made it much easier to get for A to Z
DeeVee: The previous image is slightly smaller than the actual size. Below are screen grabs of 3 stages in actual size.
Gelron: Actually, the “Enchanted Forest” is a ‘challenge event’ and not a contest (There is no prize to be won) :)Participating in such events allows me to test ZBrush features in an actual project.
WingedOne: The image below is in actual size.
DeeVee: The ‘look’ of the foliage is a result of using 3D objects as drawing tools.
Kieun: When version is available, I will most likely create such tutorial (Similar to the AlphaCentury tutorial)
Here is an image showing 3 steps of the process… (These images are an actual-size cropped portion of the full image. It’s the right side area of the guardian on the left)
The process is quite simple and it was further simplified by using a new ‘Spray’ (scatter) stroke-type that places many instances of the selected object (or brush) with varying size, position, orientation and color.

Thanks for the info, Ofer…
This ‘instance’ tool sounds like it will open up a whole new realm of possibilities!
Wow Pix! I guess that pretty much explains it but the quality of the detail in the vegetation is just so extraordinary! I have been trying to duplicate this with my meager skills and all I have to say is You Da Man!! So far my experiments have given me some small insights but it is a heck of a lot of work! I eagerly await further updates to this wonderful composition!
I have not been this anxious about waiting for a release since my wedding night (LOL)!
This scatter-brush sounds very exciting. I’ve been experimenting with the drag-dots hoping to be able to achieve a similar effect, but of course it does not automatically change size and orientation of objects.
Pix, I hope ZBrush has made you a very rich man, because you absolutely deserve it. :ex: :ex: :ex:
Thanks Pix, this project of your’s has me trying all kinds of new things and succeeding in some also! thanks for the inspiration.
DeeVee
Wow Oh Wow Oh Wow Oh Wow…
It just gets better and better Pix!
Carry On…Can’t wait for the next phase.
Incredible to watch you work. You have no idea how much I’ve learned just staring at other artists’ work over the last year, trying to figure out how things were done – but yours and Southern’s have been the most informative.
Thanks for the sneak preview of that new stroke type, too. The results look amazing!
It looks like Slosh’s dream about the new “airbrush tool” came true. Hopefully Zuzu will keep to her word and not “spray junk” onto people’s heads at Siggraph and MacWorld.
Just excellent ! An old stuff but still impressive !
I think I should get inspire of it !
