Thanks guys. Here’s another shot of the Schell critter. I just retopo’d him and adjusted a few small things. I’m going to try and put up a video of the UV work in Headus. Should have that up shortly if all goes well.

Yeah, the dark bloody images are really great, it reminds me of all the goth artists in high school art class. So disturbing, yet so vivid, not in the least bit bland. Refreshing, really, a nice break from fairies and unicorns. Good art.

I got the UVs knocked out, but it wasn’t a terribly interesting process so I didn’t record it. I just purchased a headset with mic, so hopefully that means I’ll do more videos in the near future.
Anyway, I did few quick paintovers in Photoshop before I start polypainting. Feel free to shout out your favorite

The green one IMO. The middle one is cool too, if its going to be slimy I would go with that. For more of a skin/scale look the green is best.
Did you use any cavity masking? It looks like the deeper areas are a darker value.

Most people on Facebook voted for the one on the right, and that’s my favorite as well so I think that’s what I’ll go with.
Yeah, brown and blue is my favorite combo of colors, so I vote that one as well

I like the unique twist you put on each of them. It is probably just me, but when I saw the blue stripes on the brown one it made me think Avatar. Now that is not necessarily a bad thing, but I just thought the blue was more original and the green more practical. I look forward to how the brown one turns out.
Planning on doing SSS in the final render of this guy? I’m really interested in seeing your workflow with that if you do go that route. I did hours upon hours of SSS tweaking and messing with values just to see each effect. Scale is an incredibly big factor when trying to get the perfect scatter radius. I still cant get my spec to look right

Some initial shader and lighting tests in mental ray. Still lots of work to be done. Going back to the sculpt next to make some refinements.

Agreed. I think you did a good job with the stripes and not making them too bright or distracting.
