DMAN3D - Sketchbook, WIPS and Evolution

Thanks guys:+1:
Too funny, I havent even gotten to the new 3d tools yet, too much fun sketching 2d:D

you got a very cool style. Sallustan is my personal fav :stuck_out_tongue:

Ty

You need to work on the eyes of the Jovian Soul Keeper and the Wyrmkin II a little more. They both share the same eye type. I’m not sure if it was intentionally supposed to be but, the eyes don’t look like they fit in the head right. Making eye sockets in the head so the eyes look like they are a part of the mesh could be an option. Great concepts, they just need a few touch ups.

Hey Dman do you have any reference material for the Big trouble in little china creature? If you’re having trouble, collect some reference images. I haven’t watched the movie in a while (I liked it too) but, to me it looks fine.

Just some ref from the web, I actually just picked it up on Bluray but my PS3/HDTV are in another room. Need to get a BR player for my PC so I can do some screen shots. Did that sculpt some time ago, something like 4 or 5 months ago I think and just have not been back to it, been on a 2D painting binge since then.

I did notice in the movie it does look like there are several different versions of the same creature, he looks different in different shots of him. Like the models were purpose made for each shot it appears in. Much clearer on Bluray of course. oh and Ty:+1: lol but are you the one that bomb voted me?

For the small eyed critters going for a more bug like or horseshoe look where the eyes just look like domes on the bone or chitin shell. Like a lens through the armor. Those are super old too, might do them a bit different if I keep with that sort of design.

Long time no post, going to consolodate all my stuff in this original thread at some point. Finally finding some time to get back into Z yay.

At any rate came accross these basemeshes thought it would be nice to share

Well time is short so just updating an older model, detailing/surface practice

your models are petyy funny. But on a serious note, you shuld focus more on forms and less on the details. While you already do skin details and have nice concepts, a lot of yoru models are lacking in anatomy department, anyway keep improving !

Hey thanks I think:D , working on just that (they also lack bodies:laughing: ).
Hmmm, sound like I could use a paint over too if I am that far off, so I can
perceive what I am missing, if anyone has time to do so.
Im still working on these last 3 so hopefully they will get better.:+1:

Going back through my thread now.

Ok update, I hope this is an improvement,
steady working on it as time permits, more to go.
If you have a creative crit let me know and point out specific bits
or chuck me a paintover so I can understand anatomy issues vs. stylistic
differences.
thankies:+1:

You know matching up the eyeball and lids has been making me nuts, but I just
realized I should use the matchmaker brush, duh:roll_eyes:
Should not have left Zbrush for so long.

As before if anyone can point out any specific anatomical issues and
suggestions on dealing with them, many thanks. In the meantime
back to working on it. :+1:

Going back to the alien as well at some point try to clean it up and pay more
attention to its form.

i cant draw a stick figure yet alone do a paintover ;D
Dunno why making eye lids gives you so much problems, i just always add 1 sphere mirror it, move to position, turn on transparency and use move and clay brush to make the shape of the eye, they detail it up with dam standard variation brush ;D

haha yeah I dont know either, but I do pretty much the same thing but the
form seems to get away from me, may be like you said I was not paying enough
attention to the form at lower res first. But now I know the matchmaker brush
can help me in a pinch.
I think where its going now if better for sure, hope to post an update later
if time permits to work on it more. thx for pointing out the anatomy earlier:+1:
made me look closer and think more.:+1:

Also i never go into the details until im happy with how the forms and eyes look, i just go for that gut feeling, i always feel there is something wrong, i often use google and just serahc “eyes”, “ear”, look at the first pic i see and continue untill it feels right ;] trying to get the shape of teh eye in the first go is pointleesss i think ;f

youre totally right, not that this is an excuse but thinking about this is helping
me sort things out. I spent a good amount of time focused on photoshop
painting so I think I am sort of thinking the same sort of way in Z.
Just getting in slapping down and building up. I need to get my head straight
on thinking different in Z again. Taking time on the form rather than working
so quickly. I often do not have much time so I tend to go a but too quick :stuck_out_tongue:
Biggest downside to Z is getting so into it and excited and not thinking critically
damn you Zbrush! all awesome and stuff

Come to think of it probably try to do some of my sketches and paintings in
Z here soon.

Well one more update, playing with ideas of color while I let my brain
ease up on the sculpt. at any rate hopefully an improvement.
More to go
cheers
