Thanks KillahPriest, I’m satisfied with final result more or less =) maybe I overdid it so don’t kill yourself lol! (Look at my work 3 years a go by the way and you’ll see that anyone can make it with enough effort, I don’t think I’m particularly gifted naturally or anything)

I did say I signed off this project but here’s a close-up to show off more details i.e. skin details. Again I threw a quick background.

What I mean is, the colors are pastels, the definition of pastels being the lighter versions of the hues. I like it a lot.

But I see what you mean if you hadn’t intended that; once I did a spaceship in colored pencil entirely in red, and I felt it looked great. And when I showed people, they’d say, “why is it pink?” It hadn’t looked pink to me, but behold, it was.

So it’s difficult to see the colored forest for the colored trees sometimes.

This has definitely got better, and I like the pastel shades, it makes this quite different to a lot of other Kimahri tributes out there, but I’m going to say it again because your sculpts are so awesome…

If you’re trying for a painted plaster model look (?) then ignore everything I’m going to say… if not, your textures and shaders need work, dude.
Colour variation, definition of detail to enhance the sculpting, ao maps, specular maps, fur…and there are lots of skin shaders out there now, even if you don’t want to make something specific to Kimarhi’s blue skin

I hope you don’t mind me saying these things, in no way am I knocking your work, because this piece is already great. But given the quality of your sculpting I just feel that it’s WRONG not to encourage your texturing and rendering

It may be you feel you’ve done enough and want to move on, which is absolutely cool, and we learn with each piece we do; however, if you sense that there’s still more to be had here, then I really hope to see other artists step up here to help you out, because, dude, to me, it’s obvious the artist you’re going to become

BTW wanted to say what a nice job you did with that jewellery!

@RawSunlight: thanks for all your input, I much appreciate it. However I think I will be moving on, as I signed off this project by now and I would not be that motivated for any further work on this. I will however keep all what you said in mind for my future projects which will hopefully only get better!

I’m glad that you like the work but I’m not sure where it went wrong tbh in render. You mentioned requiring color variation, ao maps, spec maps etc. well i’ve used all of these and sss (except for fur) so I’m not sure what the problem is, maybe it’s my lighting / shader / render settings ? I don’t know. Ayhow thanks again for supporting my work, I promise to try harder next time with the textures =)

Wow…all these are super fine… Love them all!

I think your Cyborg shows much better when it’s textured and is probably just a little weaker than the other pieces untextured. I wouldn’t kick it out of bed though, just put it in the middle instead of on the ends.

I’m thinking of making one or 2 of these low-poly and texturing for game quality, just to show UVs/ game-res stuff, but only once I get my new PC

A big reason for having poor texture work is my weak PC and lack of tablet, forever render times etc. so I give up and just use the render I get, hopefully will improve texture work with new PC and Wacom, instead of mouse. Plus I rush too much in texture work becoz of burnout from model, but some of the commenters to this thread are right, to have any chance I will need much more solid texture work so I need to change my focus for now.

In the meantime, I probably will be doing a phD (in animation programming) =). Hopefully, I would integrate some cool things from my research in ZAnimator if Pixologic adds more flexibility to ZScript but for now it’s too limited.

The stalker and the way you rendered it is very cool.
I really like all those ornaments you place on weapons and armour of your sculpts. Very good work.

U have to show me how to get that renders in zbrush man…would love if you u wuld share some knowledge and also the max render its amazing…care to share some tips and tricks…

For people just starting out in zBrush where the frustration of knowning so little about such an awesome tool, this thread is a great roadmap of progression.

Huge inspiration man from start to finish, keep up the good work, and ill have to go pick up zAnimator and check it out.

Oh man, I really, really love the stalker. By far my favorite model you’ve done. I’d like to see that thing move.
