Crits n Grits - the starts of a gallery...hopefully

Thanks so much for all the kind words, guys.

Si, you're absolutely right, spec map is very important, especially as I'd like to make the bottom of the roast look like it's been dangling in the water... because Darran asked me to post everything,

here’s a slightly nastily compressed turntable vid at:
http://vimeo.com/10175956

and much the same at:
https://youtu.be/

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Vfk0YC3YouA&hl=en_GB&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object> And the last 2 renders, (already way too much meat, but...)

This last render shows the brand, which obviously ties things to Amity Island, but also has a little fan-boy detail in the date…

If you can, check out the progress on Darran’s amazing shark sculpt at

I really appreciate you sharing your process it’s really helpful!
On page 4 you mentioned a texturing tutorial you were working on and showed a man that had a wonderful water color/ illustrative feel to it that I’m really digging! What was the tutorial?

Hi Isaac,

Not sure the tutorials would help; the texturing style is just the way I paint, those tutorials that I have been through have only ever covered the tools and techniques, ensuring poly density in order to get a decent resolution to texture exports, etc.

The only tuts I’ve been through are ZClassroom, VTC’s ZBrush 3.1 tuts, the free Gnomon ones, a bunch of youtube vids… I bought some Ryan Kingslein gnomon tuts, which were fantastic but were about sculpting… sorry I can’t be more help except in explaining what I myself do as an illustrator trying to get his head around zbrush?

your thread is amazing…

Great job on the shark!

Fantastic turntable Herman !:+1:

Thanks Darran…
…next, texturing the head of your awesome shark!
I hope to live up to the beast you’ve created!

No worries. I appreciate the reply. It’s inspired me to break out the water colors and take a look at the RL mediums (and color theory) again!

Cheers!
Isaac

Long time no post… baby & work… thought I’d throw up a shot of the WIP texture for our “Jaws Effect” project:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=73&t=753072&page=19&pp=15
Teeth and gums are just low(er) poly stand-ins with a quick and dirty polypaint job… somewhat shiny and clean at the mo, but will change soon
Apologies in advance for the cheesy bubbles…

Be cruel, be kind, all feedback welcome Will post a couple more shots later Anywho, nice to be back, if a little briefly. Been checking out some of the posts on ZBC over the last couple of days, which have been astonishingly awesome work; I'm feeling pretty out of touch and inadequate [<!---->](http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%27%27,%27shark%202%20grab.jpg%27,1,0%29)![shark 2d grab.jpg|966x960](upload://f3Fw5GnDaKj9kKho0Rsd3OL5vnp.jpeg)

epic! can’t wait to see this finished.

This was no boating accident.

Thanks guys, being so out of practice at the moment, it’s very heart warming to get a reassuring slap on the back

Another shot, this time the top of the head & showing the texture detail being worked in at 8k res. The eye is just a quick paint job for now...(and I should probably have ref'd the eye-to-head proportions first, because it's making the head look smaller than it should... oh well, it's a WIP!) <!---->![shark 3a grab.jpg|1100x840](upload://wGkxKivGkGANMlZUo971A1gX2or.jpeg)

Hey Geert, thanks man. Hope to be popping by over the weekend to see where you’re at with ‘the thin veil’ and any other new wonders in your thread.

Leo, thanks for stopping by, I’m an admirer of your work

Hi RawSunglight! This shark is really amazing! I look forward to see the final render! Congratulations!!!:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

The details on the shark are top notch! Are you gonna use him for an underwater scene?

Hi Herman,

Love the pilgrimage and that shark is very impressive.
did you take the pilgrimage any further or still planning to do so?

Hey Julian, I hadn’t planned to do anything more with Pilgrimage, it was a test to see how quick I could do a concept piece using ZB… very quick as it turns out

Great shark Herman, you’ve got the detail just right. The dead eyes and the little pits/sensory things on his nose. Would look great in a kelp forest background. I would do a Shark vs giant Squid diorama.
