here’s a more stylized guy i started working on tonight. still working on the hair decisions, but won’t go much further with the sculpting. suggestions more than welcome!
AWESOME! …and may I say again … AWESOME!!
May I be the first to suggest that you give him an afro. Such a clean sculpt.
thanks teyon! you know i’m a fan of your work!
gumpshmee-that’s a great suggestion. i’m going to give cornrows a try too.
here’s a quick update with some polypainting. REALLY trying to resist overdoing it.
Absolutely love it! Hope to see more of these from you.
BTW - why “Crazy” Andre? He looks pretty mellow. Can’t wait to see what you do with the hair.
No disrespect Gumpshmee but that’s been done to death. I think he should have a fade. Something like this (photo from this site). It’s closer to what you’ve already got anyway.

thats totally wicked man!!!
and yeah, i second the Fade haircut suggestion
While we’re suggesting hairstyles, What about a Kid 'n Playesque hi-top fade?
oh yeah, i should explain the “crazy” part. i originally started this idea a while ago for a little challenge on another forum. it was to create a character for the video game “Team Fortress 2.” This guy is an ex-pro (american) football player who has gone absolutely nuts and now only listens to his trusty stuffed bunny “gus” who he thinks speaks to him. Gus is always tucked away in his belt.
He’s a “quiet” kind of crazy. Here’s a really rough sketch of the original idea.
I was wondering about the style. I was thinking The Incredibles but now that you mention it, it’s definitely TF2.
Is this from a basemesh of some sorts or a zbrush sketch from a sphere or something?
Really love the look…
I actually saw a sketch of something similar today but I don’t know the exact place I saw it…
Either way its tight man…
Awesome style dude.
Nice look.
He looks fine as is. Definitely don’t go fro. I think they were banned in the 70’s
Great style!
I like the fade idea and I think the concept and execution are spot on so far. Yes, be careful with the polypaint on this one. It could easily be overdone (it’s so darn tempting). You’ve created an instantly likable character here, that’s no small feat.
Thanks for all of the comments guys. I really appreciate the feedback!
selahpoetic-this is from a base mesh I created in Silo. I’ll post it up later when I make some more updates. Starting the body parts tonight. I agree with going the “no fro” route. Besides, I don’t think I can do justice to a sweet fro with ZBrush.
Teyon, you’re sooooo right about the temptation to overdo the polypainting. there are a couple other things I want to paint on the head, but nothing on a grand scale.
Hey as soon as u get the chance…I would love to see wires of that basemesh…I find myself struggling with creating good basemeshes…I tend to keep wanting to add more polygons…
well later
Selah
wow this is really great. i immediately thought TF2.
i did a similar style (sharm edge nose/cartoony/etc) dude about a year ago, but hes nowhere as likeable or clean a model as yours. good job bro
way to stay true to your drawing style! Great work! feed me more seamore!
here’s a little update. the low poly arms are placed now. i’m doing this guy piecemail because clothing (which i’ve never tackled before) will cover much of the body. i’m updating all of this stuff so frequently to track my own steps…and maybe it’ll help me keep going too!
more to come soon…
