Great Work!! I love the wait you have done the presentation renders and the main artwork is good as well…
Wow - great work.
fantastic sculpt. the only thing that keeps it from absolute perfection for me is his breast/nipples area. somehow it looks off and too square.
other than that, really amazing. the black and white ones without the cross are even a lot stronger and more dramatic and emotional in a way. they also tell a more complex story.
Tomas.Kral: Cheers for having a look man.
7Julian_K: Thanks yeah I agree with the B & W stuff I was really in two minds about even bothering with a colour version it does lose some power for me but I put it up anyway cheers for looking man.
Floydshayvious: Thanks man means a lot.
seriously - only 2 comments here? jeeez people - this is a masterpiece. pay some respect
hahahahhaha cheers man as long as I please myself I’m a happy man lol
This is beautiful. the sculpted style looks fantastic. do tell us how you went about making this.
Beautiful sculpt! Absolutely love the B&W’s
Moonmaverick: Cheers man. Well firstly the base mesh I use is an old baseman mesh nothing special but its quaded and has loops where needed for a smooth sculpt. I mainly sculpt using very few brushes just standard, move, claytubes for roughing in, the smooth brush, I like Polish B brush for refining an area and in the more early stages massing in the planes of a form and finally I like pinch brush with the brush modifier set to 95 to make use of the pinch and push feature. Accessories, such and cross and crown were modelled with zspheres and shadowbox inside Zbrush. Renders and textures were rendered in BPR to start the previz process, then the finals in mental ray and Maya. Some retopology was needed on the hair as my base man didn’t have any so I sculpted it then used the GoZ plugin to easily move from Maya into zbrush making topology adjustments. GoZ workflow I’m really fond of right now:)
Other than that it was just sculpt sculpt and sculpt some more just lots of observational work back and forth from references and tried to make something that moved me really, in the end I think the main struggle for me was figuring out which angle to render I had worked so hard on the form of the model I needed to show that off but on the other hand the power comes from the face so I had to sacrifice all the form for interesting and moving images, that’s the reason I decided to put many renders up so you can see different angle and let the viewer decide which one they like some are more successful than others but in the end there are many things I like to change but I had to call this done for now and move onto other projects. I’m starting to work quicker these days even though this model took me a while I think with me the faster I put something down the more true and direct it turns out when I over think and over analyse too much stuff goes wrong and its easy to lose the way. Overall though enjoyable and good fun and another learning experience which is win win. Hope that helps man any questions or you would like me to elaborate on anything drop me a mail thanks again for looking.

Julian K: indeed man thanks
This a really a masterpiece, with the fluidity of lines, play of volumes and softness of details that we admire in ancient artworks!

eduardoflores:Cheers man kindest words I ever heard
rjsmal:Funny you should say that man I’m currently making the final renders of the piece in a sort of retro style think old really colourful leaflets the kind you get in mexico city. They will be on sale soon via redbubble as giclee print.
Cheers guys
Dan
I am going to post the finals very soon thanks for the feedback it highlighted the priority for me and now I have managed to make better decisions on stuff which wasn’t as important as I first thought. So I have decided to strip it right back down to basics for this model and have a simple but strong render set-up which I will share with you shortly.
Cheers
Dan
absolutely looking forward to that
I love it!
