Hello everybody. My name is Jelmer Boskma and I’m a student of the Vancouver Film School. I’m new to Zbrush but I decided to give it a try for my first demo reel piece, after seeing all the beautiful work beeing posted here.
I’ve used Zbrush to create the small details on my creature by bumpmap. I found it much fun to work with, and it was a very welcome different way of working after moving points around for weeks. c&c very welcome!
I think it’s great, the proportions and the detail is very good. A well done job all over!

Heij Jelmer,
it is an impressive work which you shows us there!!
I recognize the “leg” of the Vancouver school Film.
But i think he need more "hen pulpit " on the body.
Over than that it’s a nice modeling.
Good continuation Jelmer.

Damn is every student a genius in the vancouver film school or is that education just so god damn good
amazing.
I’ll take 2400 dozen to start, I just signed McDonald’s, globally to supply “chicken”!!
Awesome.
Awesome design and modeling/sculpting Jelmer…5 stars !
Do you have plans to animate this beast. He/she looks very serious and funny at the same time (Proud pose with no feathers :))).
Keep it up !

Very well done! Your school must be one of the best. I’ve never seen so many students from one school who produce top notch work… Can’t wait to see more of your work.
Hey Jelmer This is very impressive piece of modeling. I think however your model might benefit if you more clearly defined his lower beak. Seems to me there should be more distinction between where the beak starts and where the skin stops. Also I might go back and add some nice chips to the beak you typically see alot of flakes and chips along the “Lips” of the beak so to speak.
Again excellent piece top row material for sure. Im anxious to see your Show reel when you graduate. keep it up.
Nice chicken creature you have created. I love the overall form and he texture you put on.
Some work left on skin definition (wrinkle fat and “goose” skin), but top row.
Simply great!!!

WOW haven’t seen the bump until now. amazing job and very cool to see how far you’ve come along with the model! glad you had fun playing around in z-brush too- wasn’t as hard to get use to as you thought, was it
can’t wait till you start working on your next model, your reel’s gonna look totally delicious~ cheers, julie
Jelmer, Welcome. This guy is really cool. Great first post. ZBrush is fun isn’t it? I want to see more work from you
waoooo !!! GREAT !
5 stars here
Can’t wait to see the textured version.
:o Forgot to rate it.
Very much betraying it’s dinosaur ancestry.
Look forward to seeing the character in context and for many more future posts.
maya4fun: Hey man, thanks, with hen pulpit do you mean it’s base?
Jason Belec: Hahaha, I’ve heard KFC was interested too
Lucky_1: I’m a lousy animator, so I don’t think that’ll happen, hehe
Lynnemitchel: Thanks man, there’s indeed a great work ehtic here.
Evan Gaugh: You are right. I’ve tried to make it more clear, but I couldn’t really get it working. I wanted to have seperation like maribou storks have. The skin graduatly gets tighter and thinner on the beak. It would be easier to see with some color I think.
Monstermaker: Haha yes, it is a lot of fun Thanks for your kind words, means a lot to me.
For the ones interested in seeing the wires of this creature, I’ve attached an image showing how I built it. Modeling was done in XSI. I’m trying to learn how to sculpt more in Zbrush atm, just need a lot more practice.
The concepts, pencil on paper.
