awesome man! really love it! i always wanted to do something like that ! u nail it!
My only critique its a personal opinion. I think the specular of the guy is to high.
Anyway keep it up! Congrats!
Take care!

the specular of the guy came out very wrong, is way too strong, I couldnt agree more. I must have done something stupid and changed something somewhere before rendering, or maya on linux renders different from maya windows (I would be surprised but not too much) and the guy came out so reflective, he was rather matte on my pc…and damn, I was crazy enough to render everything as one pass, so no way to fix that properly in post.
dodgy artwork but awesome sounds!
Thanks again mate,
Andrea

… thanks for your comments (and to everyone else).
What do you mean with Liquid to Pixie?
Andrea
hmmm…
An open source Renderman? Sounds interesting, are you very familiar with it?
What’s the pipeline for exporting from Maya?
Is that Micheal Comets muscle plugin you used? Anyways it looks great, I also like the way the creature leaves footprints! More people should have a look at the quicktime movies you posted!
Jasper
Yes, its Michael Comet muscle system that now a standard maya tool (since maya 2008 extension1).
I’ve been a big fan of Comet plugins since his pose “deformer”, and his muscle system is really good, no surprise Autodesk bought it.
well the new dino animation nender is now on hold as I need my pc free, and its gonna take forever to render now that I set it up with passes… but hopefully will look better.
I’m finishing off another character that I had modelled and animated a while ago, the fur is really tricky to get right as I wanted it thin and sparse,
and currently flickers during animation… I think I just fixed it so I can get on with the render.
A couple of frames from the simple animation I’m working on…

really love those last screens that has the old man and the lizard. reminds me of something from star wars. really great
but i think the minotaur needs some work. he looks a little too short and the hair does not look right. i know it must be a real pain to get the hair to look how you want it. none the less your works are really really cool!
love your work man… more then impressed… i hope i can reach that level someday :(… animation was just too sweettttttt i can’t get enough of it
nerveink yeah ive heard many times about the minotaur’s legs being a bit on the funny side…
the camera angle is not great to get a sense of the proportions,
but indeed he’s got little legs but its a design choice, probably not the most succesful one…
He was my guinea pig to experiment with muscle systems so im focusing on many other things, not just the modelling, and now I wanted to delete him from my hard-drive where he sat untouched for months, gotta get him rendered before I just delete the project forever!
There’s an ancinent thread of mine where you can see the zbrush work done on him, a bit of a self indulgent job as i always knew he was gonna be partially covered in fur… you’ll see his legs were even smaller before.

The fur is indeed a pain, but im almost done, finger crossed the flickering is gone. Can’t afford long rendering times so this guy’s rendering setup is very basic.
this minoaur character is now officially finished and retired.
In a final effort I managed to wrap up animation and rendering, so now I can just forget about him and work on some new, cheese-free stuff, can’t wait.
He’s been a good guinea pig for my maya muscles experimentations but I’m glad to see him going.
I’ve added a turntable and a render on my website
(andreafalcone.com) together with the other character of this thread.

great work
Hello,
it has been a while since i posted here, so here’s something I’ve done recently.
It’s a dog I modelled and rigged for a commercial, the dog dances on his back leg so that’s where this strange pose comes from.
I used Maya for the basemesh, zbrush for the details and back to maya for rigging and layered skin deformation (with cMuscle and some other dynamic stuff).

Amazing stuff
The dog looks really nice. His jaw/chin looks too thin and flat though, like it doesn’t have bone in it.
The dog looks great!
wow you nailed the dog!
