Character WIP - Andrea

This looks great, the modeling, detailing, and the posing,… it’s all really good! :+1:

i love the design of the beast great work, although i’m not a big fan of the native’s peck muscles everything else looks awesome!

Just saw the video…
Amazing work…and to know that you are not yet happy with it…
oooooooooo…
great wok…
keep it going…
really wanna see it finished to your liking…he he

Well…ive had a few good ideas …possibly nothing like you were thinking …hehe
But if you dont mind ill see what i can whip up …i wont post it anywhere without passing it by you first.
The movie just seemed to trigger some musical/fx ideas in my mind.

Cheers

an eleven years old??

By the way the chap, in my mind, is some kind of Masai man from a parallel dimension riding a big pre-historic chicken, an african theme in the music could be cool…?! Probably not what you are thinking!

Hah…im not 11 …thats just on my profile…i have no idea why …im 33
Ive done avery cinematic peice with …you guessed it …and african vocal in the back …i had imagined you may have wanted somthing more sparse …but this peice is very dramatic and movie like …

i am now onto the sound effects for the walking and deciding what sounds the beast will make …

I think your gonna enjoy this

Ok …im happy with the way its sounding …thanks to such an awsome inspiring animation.

All the music was composed by myself in cubase.
The sound effects i created by various means …eg to get the right sandy footsteps and a solid dino voice without being to crazy as he seems like a pretty peacefull guy and hes not huge.

Ive sent you the link to download the file so check your pm.
Let me know if your happy for me to post the link here.

Hope you enjoy it

Hey that is amazing, really great models and the clip is very believable. can i ask what was the fake SSS shader you were refering to, was it a blinn or ramp or one of the other skin shaders?

It’s the standard maya SSS skin shader.
To be honest I’m still figuring out Mental Ray and the shading is not exactly the way I want (I come from a vide-games background so rendering is definitelly not my forte).
Ive done some tests with the Mia materials and I think they work better, plus you can still use the SSS shader to add some scattering to a Mia material, but I’m a bit in a hurry so I had to stop experimenting and get on with the render, which takes forever!
I found that the maya SSSskin works great with pale skin, black or dark skin is a bit more subtle and the SSS shader is not that imporant. I like the look of SSS materials but I think they tend to be used a bit too much, its nice to see the skin ‘glowing red’ but I think strong scattering makes a character loose the sense of scale, things end up looking like miniature models.

Finger crossed, I’m re-rendering it today, as I need to try to fix those odd pec muscles popping (by the way, my awesome friends at Escape Studios let me use their pcs, these 1000 frames would take 1 month of non stop rendering on my poor pc otherwise).

the stills look like they are screen grabs from a movie! Haven’t seen such finished and production ( movie ) quality renders here. That is the stills, coz my firefox crashes when I try seeing the video. There is a bug somewhere in the link. Really wanna see the video too. good luck witht the portfolio.

cool thanks for the reply, though i know your’e not finished, its still really amazing work to be able to do everything and put it together like you have, congrats i’m sure its gonna be more mindblowing than its already is when your’e done.

Thanks everyone for the interest and nice comments.
I hope to post a link to a better render soon, working on it.

Moonlitmaverick, I can only suggest to make sure you have an up to date quicktime installed, and maybe try a different browser (well I use firefox myself, strange it crashes, first time someone reports a crash) I have no time now to put together a respectable webpage, hope to do that soon.

As soon as I have the time, I will try to make a good still image from these chacacters too, in the tradition of zbrushcentral.

I post here a frame I kept from the time I was experimenting with different lighting and moods. Its nothing like the lighting I ended up using in the animated clip but I like the graphical style of this little test, I might do the still image along the lines of this old test.

Wow nice job, I like how you showed the muscle system in the video too  .

10/10

P.S. - You should let me do your site,

any time!
My current knowledge of html is ctrl+C,ctrl+V!

hey buddy this is real kicking ass work.really like your animation and muscle simulation skills.coooooooooooooooooooooool,coooooooooooooooool:+1: .
and one more thing why this is not on top row yet?

Your animation with the muscle movement is great stuff! The renders a coming along very nice as well!

I really like this last silhouette render, probably not the lighting set up so show off some of the cool work you have done but it has a very cool look to it. Very nice strong shapes that you have going on!

Can’t wait to see more from this project!

Peace-NickZ.

Very nice work, in fact some of the best for a portfolio I’ve seen in awhile. I also like your comments, you seem to grasp a few basic things missed by so many. Perhaps it is due to the limitations imposed upon you, either way it seems to be working in your favour.

When your done, perhaps we should talk.

I think it would be nice to export this work to a renderer that can handle displacement - say using Liquid to Pixie and see the difference.

I really like your graphic version and suggest you also export some of the scene in that format at some point.

All the best.

The test render 2 is so cool how you overlayed the muscles!
Being this good an artist, your probably like most talented artists here…
a perfectionist!

Amazing work.
I feel inspired to work on 3D art today.:+1:

Here is the movie file with the music/sfx i composed added …
Excuse the compression

I’m pretty sure u’ll have a very bright future…
Congrats man… :+1: :+1:
All the best…

Can’t wait for the final version, really…
