Thats a photo!!! ffffffffantastic texturing, just gob smacking
AMAZING !!!
no word !!
VERY-ULTRA-MEGA-SUPER COOL!!!
Surely one of the best skin textures (and disp. map I think) that I ever saw!!!

Very nice work Jonas… congratulations!
The ripper.
…
5 stars, but you deserve 10. excellent, fantastic! !! WOW !!
Awesomely “Real” looking!
Really impressive.
Can you elaborate a little on saying you used zb for textures but not so much for displacements? What was your workflow for these aspects?
Also was there any reason why you chose to use Max and MR to render opposed to xsi MR, or was it just personal preference?
I agree with all the comments about the skin detailing.
Hands down, some of the best skins shaders/textures I’ve ever seen.
Can you talk a bit about your process?
Respect!

Fabuloso, buenísimo…
That looks fantastic! Good job man… I would love to see a few screen captures of the zbrush model!
Heyas Jonas,
stunning texture work! I wonder how you extracted the spec map from your zbrush texturing and also is the render using displacements or did u import the highres mesh into max?
Any info on your process will be ultra appreciated:)
cheers man
_Mario
That texture is amazing!
I hope you will be willing to part with your secrets and enlighten us with your knowledge.
Just can´t understand how you achieve it, great skin, lips and… wow man everything i great, congratullations.
I´m shouting out for a tutorial, please post some tips and tricks!!!
waiting for the animation
Thanks for all replies everyone!
At work now so I cant post any new images, but I will try to do that tonight.
As for my process its nothing revolutionary. For this one I started out with an older mesh that I just updated and tweaked some in XSI.
After that I take the cage into zbrush and just play around with general proportions, no details at this stage. When Im happy with the result I start painting a very rough diffuse texture in zbrush, more to get the right colors in there, not details.
I then exported the mesh into 3dsmax and the diffuse texture to photoshop. In 3dsmax I render out a lot of procedual textures of pores, noise etc, using render to texture. This way I can get small details without any stretching or seams. I do use photographs, mostly for the lips and the eye, when creating the texture, but for the rest is more a combination of my zbrush painting and the “render to texture” maps.
When Im happy with the diffuse in photoshop I go back to zbrush and make the final little tweaks, make sure there is no seams etc. When all that is finished I usually setup the shader.
For this project I use a tweaked MISS skin shader in MR, the only big changes from the standard shader is that I use one bump map for the specular (stronger and sharper) and one for the diffuse (weaker and blurry) to give it a more oily look. Specular is to me just as important as SSS when creating good looking skin.
After this I start painting the finer displacement details in zbrush, nothing special, I just try to use as much reference as possible and constantly check your model works from far away.
The reason I do the detailing at this late stage is that I really want to be happy with my cage mesh before doing the displacements, and not rush things. For a human looking face the displacement should not change the apperance anyway, just add that little extra to it.
I would probably paint my displacement maps a lot earlier in the process if I was making some more extreem creature with loads of displacement.
Its all then rendered in 3dsmax using mentalray, there are several reasons why I render in max instead of XSI. First of all XSI does not yet have mr3.4 and no support for lightmaps (witch are required by the MISS shaders). Secondly I like the the tools for hair and cloth in max (ornatrix and clothfx) more than the XSI ones (Shave and Syflex).
Hope that answers some questions, will post some more tonight about the actual zbrush painting as well as some images.
Ciao,
Jonas
